  2. What they should do is write this as a response: The local council acknowledges the thoughts from our locals and would like to counter the proposal of a speedway stadium, if the locals would prefer a different type of community feel we are much for this and to reduce the count in traffic volumes we would like to announce that the speedway stadium will not be built in this location and instead, a new hotel will be built in its place to house migrates. The hotel will bring more jobs to the local area and we very much back this idea. Goodbye!

  3. As I have mentioned before... Just ask TR and CO why don't they just use the Abbey given their low projected numbers... Car parking too shouldn't be an issue using their crowd projections... A perfect sized stadium has been built if those numbers are correct .. So just use it...

  4. Yes despite some horrible teams you can't fault Tolley's commitment to the cause his other business must make an absolute mint to cover the speedway losses.

  5. Excellent piece in the Speedway Star about the Brum closure... Nigel Tolley has put in two thirds of a million during his tenure... An incredible amount and he deserves great thanks from everyone who were able to keep attending... Crowds of 500 were the main issue and he said it costs £12-13k a match to run a home meeting... And then had the away costs in top! He said that having more UK based riders was vital for the sport, given the cost of flights, hotels, etc... Exactly what's been written in the letters pages of the Star for about three decades, and on here for 15 years or so...!!! If only promoters had realised that...! BZ wanted £7.5k a meeting so didn't get signed... A good interview with Brian Buck too, another who deserves great thanks for playing a huge part in the resurrection of the sport in Birmingham.. Another excellent publication this week from the Star team...

  8. If he's spaffed well north of half a mill during his tenure to get the results he has then he's either completely mad or has been very poorly advised!

  9. I always look back on the 1978 World Final at Wembley with great fondness.. Heat 4... Ivan Mauger... did he fall or was he pushed... Ole Olsen... my favourite rider at the time winning... Gordon Kennett... the captain of my team, White City, finishing 2nd... and on his birthday! The GP's will never be as good as those one-offs...

  10. He certainly has cost the Cheetahs a few wins due to not using inform reserves adequately

  11. On the same subject I have just purchased a pile of old speedway stars from an antique shop ranging from 1967 - 1969 and the memories they bought back are brilliant. I found the the report for the very first speedway meeting I went too. Wimbledon v Swindon, where a Swindon side with Briggs, Broadbanks, Ashby and Kilby won. From that moment I was hooked. After that meeting we went to Wimbledon regularly until 1968 when Canterbury started. There is report of a meeting at Canterbury against the best of the league with 9,000 watching. The reports of all the meetings make good reading with all the star names of the era riding every week,(all for one team) Briggs,Mauger,Boocock,Ashby,Wilson, Betts, and a couple of promising new comers, Olsen and Michanek (I wonder what happened to them?) the list goes on and on with all the new riders in the new second division. If only we could return to those days.....

  12. He was just as bad when he was at Rye House. Half the fans went bald pulling their hair out at his mismanagement.

  14. Don’t think the rules of only 1 tacsub and riders having to have 3 rides give the Team Managers a lot of leeway and options bar tactical use of reserves in most cases.Schroek seems to make some strange decisions though. We don’t know what’s going on in the Pits.

  18. SHEFFIELD: Jack Holder, Anders Rowe, Josh Pickering, Nick Morris, Chris Holder, Jye Etheridge, Leon Flint. LEICESTER: Max Fricke, Luke Becker, Ryan Douglas, Kyle Howarth, Sam Masters, Drew Kemp, Joe Thompson Anything other than a home win would be a disaster for Sheffield morale wise going into the play offs. Leicester have beaten us twice already round Owlerton. last visit Kerr and Sedgmen scored a shocking 1 between them, and in my opinion were rightly replaced with Morris and Etheridge. Kemp and Thompson scored paid 12, they’ll do well to do the same tomorrow. Becker back in the team makes Leicester weaker as an away team but still are the form team for me going into the play offs. Sheffield to win 50-40. If the tracks as good as the BV meeting should be some good racing

  20. A good night's racing and a confidence booster for the Tigers with the play-offs looming and Leicester looking the likely opponents in the semis. Embarrassing comments in this thread about Steady though. His record as manager of both Sheffield and Great Britain is pretty decent with Championship, Premiership and KO Cup, plus 2 SON titles. Just imagine what he could have achieved if he knew what he was doing !!

  21. According to the BSPA averages after tonight,Lawson's average is too high even for the one at Ipswich.

  22. A decent night’s racing with Jack looking pretty imperious and a fairly comfortable win despite both Chris and Picko not being quite as on it as usual. Cracking ride by Morris to second on the line. If I was going to whinge… what was with the booing of Howarth when he won his final ride?? Only a few people, but seriously? Brilliant servant of the club for years, he deserves better than that.

  25. Really enjoyed tonight’s meeting. Good win for Sheffield, should really give the team confidence going into the play offs. Holder and Fricke both showing why their number 1’s tonight great riding by both Aussies. Sheffield 1-7 looking good round Owlerton Chris Holder struggling out the starts need him to do abit more from number 5 but all in all positive signs. thought Leicester reserves deserved more for their efforts and Becker getting through 4 races has to be a positive for the lions, even though it was his usual type of Owlerton performance (abit naff)

  28. Every team every year prepare their track for home advantage why wouldn’t you? Clubs with great tracks can easily say it’s entertainment first because they will generate better racing that’s a given for them But one million percent Glasgow make the track to Bombers liking Trouble is if Ipswich put dirt down Bomber will love it but Lawson and Kvech are better on slick

  29. Gerry Facenna in the Star this week talks about how the racing is paramount to the sports future success... As it brings the punters back... Preparing tracks just to win, and not to provide entertainment, is something he simply doesn't agree with... He must come on here looking at the ideas he has to improve his business.......

  30. As mentioned kings Lynn have a 1-5 that ride Foxhall better than most other 1-5’s in the league irrelevant of how good these riders are … for example Kvech and Lawson ride Foxhall better than Kurtz and Bewley even though they aren’t as good riders Dan T has scored 2 in three of the last 4 home matches Ellis who scores big at Foxhall missing means this is open for Kings Lynn for sure

  31. Completely disagree, Jenkins had a bad crash last night and he was not riding well before the crash, definitely stick with Jason Edwards.

  33. It's odd isn't it? Simon nearly always looks miserable on TV and at times has that "rabbit in the headlights" look. But he came to the Nuneaton Speedway Supporters Club meeting a while back and he was a completely different person. Chatty, friendly, he even smiled a few times. I must admit, I changed my view of him that evening.

  39. Was looking forward to watching Nagel round the wide open spaces of the Northside track , but the Danish under 19's is such a important event in the grand scheme of world speedway . He's not quite at Thomas H Jonasson level at missing meetings for a Scottish club , but its getting close .

  41. Not quite on the same lines as the other posts but I bought some photo's off Vinted from Newport that were taken on the corner I used to stand with my old man after a few too many sherbets last week. The lady kindly put in a host a of old programmes that her uncle had left, opened the package at my old mans and they turned out to be his old programmes dating back to the early 70s and up to 2004. He'd sold them on just after Newport closed and I've somehow managed to get them back. Great Sunday afternoon reminiscing over lunch

  44. Probably a stupid question, but could the way of getting speedway to new foreign audiences be in the way of holding many events over the weekend? Flat track is popular in USA and Spain. Could we have both a speedway GP and flat track GP over a weekend along with other motorcycle events within the weekend? Almost turning it into an X-games style weekend?
