  2. Here is the opening two paragraphs from the 2026 press release... (continue the each as you wish). "British Speedway will enter a bold new era in 2026 that is sure to excite fans across the country following their AGM at the weekend..." "Chairman of the BSPL, Rob Godfrey said he felt satisfied that the sport will be the real winner with all the promotors working collectively in the best interests of the sport..."

  5. Sadly, it's official that Danny King won't be in The Bears team next season due to the one rider over 8 point rule, It was announced at the Redcar awards do last night. He said his farewells and received a standing ovation from the supporters. It's unfortunate when rule changes force riders out of a team place. That apart it was an excellent evening, and good to see Erik there looking well.

  6. Your missing the point I’m making, it’s Buxton I’m talking about, where you wouldn’t own the track but the rent is tiny compared to other tracks and that is for practically unlimited use and you get the money from absolutely everything from catering to practice days, as I said it’s not the ideal solution but it is by far the best most cost effective solution to the crap that British speedway finds itself in, honestly making a point to you lot is like talking to the bspl šŸ˜‚

  8. Where’s Pickering? Surely he’s a certainty in Sheffield’s 1-7?

  9. A couple of days ago I read on here he was on his way to Workington. Principal is the same, if they want to share out the top riders, just make sure no-one gets missed out whatever average they end on. i.e could be one rider over 8, one over 7.9, one over 8.1, just don't make a rider unemployed because of the ruling.

  10. And that’s where the sport will be changing, the money for riders will be less, do Oxford get catering and bar profits ? Which as any entertainment business will tell you is where you can make serious money, Len silver used to let fans in for free at rye house when they were against lesser attractive teams so he could make more money on his fish and chips and beer and that was a fact, I know I was there on a few of those occasions, the tv money was not really a pittance, in the grand scheme of things it was a welcome few quid for promotions and will be a big loss, on average rent for a track is around Ā£50,000 a year, some more some less, so if you pay nothing that’s Ā£50,000 saved before you have even started,I haven’t anywhere said this is a perfect solution but it should be considered because the alternatives are far worse and far more costly

  12. People need to stop seeing TV coverage as a tool to promote the sport. If that’s the aim then the promoters should take out some prime time advertising on television. The days of flicking through the channels and stumbling upon something are long gone. There are too many channels and streaming options. Television companies aren’t going to give out a deal to help push speedway to the masses. They want something that is established and will bring eyes to their channel. The promoters need to make the sport an attractive proposition for a broadcaster to take an interest not expect a TV deal and for that TV deal to suddenly attract fans through the gates of tracks.

  14. So what if one or two other teams do a Scunthorpe and sign an 8+ rider who didn't ride in the Championship last season? Some of last seasons 8+ riders will miss out on a team place. My point is valid. We are told there is a shortage of riders but potentially some will the frozen out! What is the points limit for? Teams should be built to the limit but how that's done should be up to the promotions.

  15. Appreciate that I’m biased as it’s the club I support(ed) but allowing Rye House to die was a real travesty. A track that owned the stadium and had no restrictions over when it could operate. Somewhere that could have been a real asset to the sport in this country. Around the same time I’m pretty sure other tracks were bailed out too. Ones with bigger names but less solid foundations.

  16. Another rider who I'd target if No TV deal happens is........Scott Nicholls. Last Premiership GSA was 5.69 (5.55 after 2.5% Reduction) and he'd score bucket loads around Foxhall @ No.2 imo.

  17. Seems like a real possibility as I feel one more year in championship would probably be best for him to go out on a high and prove himself as a no1 rider, and getting Emil machinery there’s every chance he can push on to that level and would make a good spearhead with Nicholls and he can learn off him aswell.

  24. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but maybe teams should have invested all of the money into the stadiums/land/facilities and then used the increased revenue on riders, rather than just going straight for the riders. This would also have prevented a lot of the issues we are having now of teams be kicked out of their stadiums or being priced out due to the increased price of land and shrinking revenues

  25. The elephant in the room is or is never appearing to be addressed by the powers that be, lack of riders or finance for riders or development of riders for example. I think if someone done a straw pole of riders who quit in the last 20 years because they couldn't afford it I think the numbers would be shocking.

  26. I have always thought it strange that anyone still at school isn't allowed in for free... The Aces (I think), let U12's in for free on the back straight, which is a good idea... However, just as they become more interested and nuanced in the sport the person who takes them now has to pay for them... Just at a time too when they start going out with their mates, and going somewhere (by yourself), that your Dad and Grandad attends suddenly becomes "very uncool".. Let all school kids in for free, let them bring their mates for free, and let them "sod off" by themselves if they so wish... Some will never become "paying punters" but some will, and some of those will be "mates" who never attended Speedway, until their mate who did, took them.. These "teens" are not there now in any numbers worth a mention, so let them in for nothing as you have nothing to lose, but maybe something longer term to gain... It is barmy that at somewhere like the NSS (particularly on TV), swathes of seats and terracing lie empty when thousands of kids attend local schools and play in local sports leagues... One of the positives of internet purchasing is that you gauge well in advance as to what your ticket sales will be like on the night, as the "walk up and pay on the gate people" will have an average number too... Therefore if your capacity is 2000 more than you expect to turn up, flood the local schools, kids groups, sports teams etc etc with free tickets... They, and their parents/guardians, will not be turning up to pay anyway, so nothing to lose... And if the odd few parents, who do actually attend, get a free ticket then its a small price to pay to give the optics out that you are a "popular sport"... People are very much sheeplike and get easily led by seeing a "big crowd", and just automatically latch on to it, and follow it.... The opposite also is true, ie. If it looks unpopular, it must be unpopular, and something I won't be interested in following...

  31. Didn’t they state that the 40 point team limit was in for three years ? Yet they now look like introducing a rule , the only one over the eight , that completely changes how you can build a team and if Berwicks latest post is to believed, six rider teams ! …I find that ridiculous . If ever a rider was brave enough to take the sport to court for ā€˜restriction of trade’ or the like then try and explain the rules to non speedway people and add in ā€œ oh, by the way, we penalise non uk riders by giving the Brits a percentage reduction ā€œ it would just show the sports authorities to be the clowns that they are .

  34. There were 9 riders above 8 last season. Scunthorpe have already signed one from outside of that 9, so at least one of them will miss out. Another needless rule. The points limit already does the job.

  37. 9 Riders over 8pt average. Kemp, Howarth,Nicholls drop below 8 with their 2.5% reduction. With Pickering now at Scunny that, if the rule goes through means there will be a spare rider with an 8+ average.

  38. Plenty of rumours flying around. The one that was doing the rounds for a few weeks was confirmed on Friday. The others I’ve heard or seen here are, Rew to return: I can see that happening to be honest. Thompson leaving: I can’t see it personally. Ellis not riding in the uk: I find this hard to believe & I’d certainly have him back at Ipswich in 2026. King going elsewhere: Now this one I could believe, a little bit like Emil in that it’s mission accomplished now. Maybe it’s a good time for this chapter to close, but I think much will depend on Danny. Depending on the regulations though if it’s a 40 point limit again then surely we can only go with 2 of the above if it’s a lower limit maybe 3 or possibly all 4. Its silly season at the moment so who knows what is going to happen, even Bewley has been mentioned. It seems certain that Doyle & Brennan will return & I can see Edwards as the R/S or number 7 if the RS is scrapped. Intriguing times however Louis & Hawkins now know that the public will turn out to support a strong side so I expect us to build well to defend the title.

  40. I hate gambling, my step son is an addict and its wrecked his life. But riddle me this if we get into bed with gambling,, race fixing. I worked with Adam Shields for many years and the year he left Eastbourne for Lakeside he took a booking to guest for Greg Hancock with Reading at Arlington. Adam was on form and it worked out if Reading conceded a 4-2 in heat 7 they could bring Adam into heat 8 on a double points score. A rider had a retirement in heat 7 with a Reading rider getting a second, Adam went out in heat 8 and got the 6 points. Now, is that race fixing in the bookies eyes or as I feel, a tactical move?

  43. Your sound stinks like someone with little speedway knowledge other than a deliberate attempt to belittle the sport for an ulterior reason - Your something to do with Brandon Associates and/or Clark Osbourne? Your totally oblivious to the history of Buxton speedway, what it stood for and was about! Buxton never got more than 2-300 on a good day. It operated on a shoestring budget and was an ideal track for the lower cost 3rd tier and helped to produce many riders by propping up the 3rd Division. - Most of the crowd were fans of senior tracks getting a Sunday afternoon speedway fix. I'm sure it will continue in a similar vein if it reopens next season.

  47. Agree, it is about what works for the local business model. Tracks/promoters/home teams can no longer rely on swelling the coffers with income from the opponents spectators attending away matches. Firstly you have the cost of travel, then the possibility of a call off because a dark cloud is expected at around the first race and add to this the fickle attitude of riders who cannot cope with damp tracks etc. and that is just a few of the reasons why racing from yesteryear does not work today. Week day speedway works for a number of clubs but others have seen increased support from weekend meetings when at least the chances of away support increases. Tracks need to promote what’s on offer when they can get the best number through the turnstiles. It is so difficult to come up with a formula that works for the speedway demographic given the self interest of the club owner/promoter and the influence of overseas competition where some riders can, assuming they are good enough, earn top dollar in places like Poland but I still wonder how many riders sit down and work out the risk factors should they end up on the sidelines because of an injury and are asked to repay the advance fees. it is a shame that so many on this forum have good suggestions on ways to improve the offering but no one is listening. Oh well we await the annual debacle in November and thankfully ignore the outcome and instead look forward to another season of racing from Poland which seems to be so much more organised.

  48. Some Sunday League, and Semi Pro football teams, have tens of thousands of followers due to their own in house coverage and editing... With the YT algorithms taking you to them after you have watched one... It has been a perfect media for Speedway for at least five years since these type of programmes started... People eating loads of food quickly, get millions of followers!!!! Nearly a quarter of a million has watched the Wright/Allen fight, and over 400,000 have watched the final of the 2025 British Championship.. Imagine if just a tenth of those numbers attended a track each week?! The template to follow is out there due to what other sports teams do, so just follow it... Plenty of money can be made if you get the views and subscribers, and you don't need to spend loads to earn it, nor do a lengthy video... 15 to 20 mins featuring riders arriving, pre match team talk, some action, some during the meeting conversations between team and manager, post match team talk, and the riders post match thoughts, is sufficient... Fast paced, small soundbites, and race snippets from the best races, and not lengthy conversations and full races (unless a cracker)... People don't sit and watch two hours of sport like they used to, they now often just watch the fifteen to twenty minute highlights on YT... I have got into Baseball by watching 20 mins highlights, but wouldn't sit and watch three to four hours of the sport, watching pitch after pitch not getting hit... Speedway desperately needs some modern thinkers involved rather than those who have led the sport with the mantra "we have done it this way for decades"..

  50. All on this forum can try and guess what will happen in 2026 and many have some very good points to make but in reality the powers that be are not listening to the core support and few if any on here have any investment in the sport or any financial interest in the current set up. The running of the sport is questionable given that the clubs and promoters dictate the rules and almost operate on the basis of a Masonic lodge. I accept that it is not my money on the line but if you follow the current premise, the sport is on a downward trajectory as those in charge maintain a self interest and rely on the personal preservation of the investment over entertainment value and attracting a new audience. The closed shop that currently operates believes the current business model works. If that is the case why does it not attract top quality sponsors and why is the wider media not clamouring to get a slice of the action. WBD have seen the writing on the wall by distancing themselves from the promotional side of the sport. That in itself should tell us something. One can only hope that positive changes are forthcoming as the status quo is not an option if speedway is to flourish.
