  2. No it isn’t sensible, the control board should set out a pay structure and enforce it and riders either take it or leave it, if an amateur rider can’t make it pay that’s tough, it’s amatuer, until we get away from entitlement for riders we will never move forward, nobody wanted to listen when I tried to cut costs for riders, well fine you made your bed don’t complain when the springs stick in your back . I don’t care how any promotion make their money or how much money they haven’t got all I care is the future of the sport and at the moment it doesn’t have one

  3. Whatever the outcome and most hope that Ipswich come to the tapes come March, April or May, generally the sport is unlikely to entice broadcasters to cover the sport live, it has been a disaster the way things have carried on thus far, sponsors probably unwilling to commit without a t v contract, riders dropping the UK, no idea of a fixture list and the sapping interest of the UK punters who are losing the will to get excited with any enthusiasm about the coming season. You have so few if any new ideas to rejuvenate a dying product and a total lack of general tangible investment in the sport at any level leaves most wondering just how much longer it can it continue in any form other than an amateur part time pursuit by a few enthusiast. Unless those in charge have kept under wraps something really special, then the sport is going nowhere and they are trying the patience of every punter who puts money into the pockets of the clubs. The riders don’t really give a toss as they will look to ride in Europe or walk away and earn a living elsewhere. It is not just an Ipswich issue it is a problem for speedway UK and the lack of updates in any shape or form from the body that allegedly runs the sport is not doing anyone any favours. Still I am sure the promoters think all is rosey in the UK speedway camp. Fools comes to mind.

  4. Even at today’s standards and equipment/prices you could could go buy 2 decent bikes, all the riding gear and the equipment to set up your workshop to service your own engines all for under £5000,no fancy covers or shiny new wheels and it would be good enough to ride in the national league which would pay you £20 per point, where else are you going to get any other motorcycle sport to achieve that level with such an investment and pay back? The trouble is we have grown a breed of entitlement within riders for what is an amatuer level and it’s backed up by promoters and parents, just because you want to be a speedway rider doesn’t mean someone else should be paying for your privilege

  7. No... They just leave Speedway... Adrian Smith a case in point. . He had very limited knowledge of Speedway when he became CEO at BV, but was "blown away" by the core, raw product that took place, and saw huge untapped potential... Unfortunately he was less "blown away" by the operating model around it, and several of those who delivered such a model... One of a good number who knew what was needed, but stopped from doing anything, so those "tiny, tiny empires", many of which want so many different things from fhe sport, could keep doing the same thing ad infinitum...

  8. It is a total sh*tshow isnt it?.. But.. Let's be honest.. Anyone who has followed UK Speedway for any decent length of time, are not really surprised in any way shape or form are they?... Just par for the course...

  9. Strange isnt it that everyone says riders should have a job as speedway isnt a full time profession , then proceed to moan when a rider fits in racing around the job.😏

  12. It cost over £8k for a new mx bike theses days £5k for a decent second had one and parents pay around £50 every weekend to race so speedway is pretty cheap and can be run on a budget, a decent well serviced engine for a nl rider should do 40 heats if it is looked after before it needs a service .

  15. Just a case of who imo. Woffinden or Lambert would be the most likely names. Fully expect Brady to be back at Belle Vue but it's taken an awfully long time for them to announce him but that's the longest of long shots imo.

  16. I don't know if I'm reading too much into literally nothing happening and adding 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5, with Speedway nothing surprises me, but... If it is 2 leagues, why are there no fixtures for the CL? Why have BSN not started selling CL season passes? IF it is 2 leagues surely there's nothing in the way for those things not to happen, why the delay? 🤷‍♂️ Or is one big (small) league still a possibility?

  21. I don’t buy into this rule, imo this ageist rule has been a big contributor to the lack of riders in the sport over a couple of decades now, I think the national league should be open to any rider no matter how old or how experienced they be, if they want to ride in it then they should be allowed to, the only thing is they ride for £20 per point and no more and that should be sufficient to limit the number of experienced riders who are just there for a pay day which unfortunately is allowed to happen too many times, it’s an amateur league with too many expectant professionals in it, I’ve been in and around the national league probably more than anyone else, I’ve seen the changes, the rules, the money and the jealousy from the higher up clubs and the riders walk away from the sport and to me we are just doing the same thing and expecting a better outcome but isn’t that speedway all over

  25. Those offering top dollar simply to ride are doing no favours to anyone. Perhaps the NDL should be restricted to standard bikes or e bikes and the next step will be once they have honed there craft they make it to semi professional racing. This should a development league and to make it open to many as possible, costs need to be kept to a minimum so that those who cannot make the grade have not lost an arm and leg in-terms of investment. Entry level costs need to be kept as low as possible to attract the widest possible numbers. Expecting youngsters and the family to splash out thousands to compete is unrealistic but yet again those in charge fail to think outside the box. The sport’s governing body really is run by a selfish bunch who like promoters are all on the take but give very little back in return pretending that they are doing everyone a favour whereas the opposite is true.

  26. But there are new promoters and new money ! After all and although it’s amazing what they are doing up there this is the MDL TM knowing full well that my son was didn’t qualify for the league said to him, at KL ‘you ride, as although your points won’t count, they won’t get them either and we’ll win”

  28. I'm sure the lure of riding for Laurence Rogers means that Alfie Bowtell will gladly ride for standard NDL points money and a good night's sleep afterwards in their VIP caravan!

  29. Looks one of those teams that could surprise a few if they all click or be bang average at best if they don't.

  30. Why do people keep mocking the lad for this? Not all young riders have rich parents or big sponsors and I believe Nathan has to balance his riding around a full time job. When he has signed for a team he’s always been reliable and never misses meetings and gives maximum effort so maybe the offers last season just weren’t right for him financially or otherwise.

  31. And that’s the mentality that closed Buxton down last time, the sport never learns from our mistakes

  32. I just want to add my views on rider pay would be different if 1000s were coming through the turnstiles every week and the sport was flush with money but it isn’t it’s on the brink of extinction and we have to change
    1 point
  33. Good for you 👍and that’s the whole point, so you should have to work hard, damn hard, beyond hard because it’s not a given that anyone makes it as a rider unfortunately too many believe they are entitled to a paid career a soon as they have a bike

  34. On the 2026 rules and regs it states- "010.2.3 Amended MA’s With the approval of the BSP LTD GC or Directors for: - a) riders who have been absent from British Speedway racing for more than 3 seasons (the table in 10.2.2 will be used as a reference, the MA may be increased or decreased) b) riders who have been absent for more than 1 full season due to a speedway injury" Doesn't mention any amount of percentage of reduction- however, I'd read that as woffinden could apply for a reduction under the current rules.

  36. With thanks to your help we got our 4 tickets on the back straight OK. Looking at the cheapest (350PLN) tickets the back straight has all but sold out but bends 3&4 are almost all available and on bends 1&2 only the first few rows are available. About £72 is expensive, especially for Poland but I suppose compared to even League One football it’s not too bad for us. The £72 covers entry to the SGP2 on the Friday night too. Anyway it was either pay £72 or just have a weekend in Łòdź.

  37. This league should be as low cost as possible entry level to the sport( a paying hobby at this level) ,riders should not be expected to have all the "bells and whistles " equipment of the upper leagues . Decent reliable and affordable bikes within set parameters should be mandatory, so riders can improve their skills and not win or progress due to deep pockets .

  40. I completely get that Kenzie gets an average after 4 fixtures and he knew (or should have known the implications) what is wrong is dropping the lower limit to 2.00 and allowing those who achieved under 3.00 to race on be signed on their lower number. Then the team building limit gets jumped back up to 42 allowing stronger sides and if sub 3 point riders are signed a bigger gulf in class. A 9-10 point rider and a 2 point rider in the same heat is unlikely to produce good racing or a huge deal of entertainment.

  42. Agree but someone needs to call these idiots out and ask how they can continue to target speedway tracks when I suspect not one has ever been to a meeting or knows anything about the sport. Heads up arses and nothing of any substance but no doubt enough readies to pass a few brown envelopes to local decision makers who bow to the biggest cheque book. No different to any other housing developer, liars, cheats and corrupt businessmen who claim to have the interest of the local community but are only worried about the bottom line. No such thing as affordable housing, it is smoke screen and mirrors or to put it bluntly, most building firms talk utter bollocks to weak councillors who you would not piss on if they were on fire.

  43. They've really not got the average rules right in the NDL for me. Kenzie Cossey races 4 matches as a guest so gets a new average (3.25). When they lowered the minimum average to 2.00, that could've ended his NDL carter before it started, but thankfully King's Lynn have given him a chance. Nathan Ablitt rode 3 NL matches for Steelers & 2 NT matches for Kent Eagles, but doesn't get a new average. Despite averaging 8.92 & 9.33, he'll keep his low 8.33 average for 2026. If they're so desperate to have accurate averages, that they give guests averages, why not combine NL & NT for riders who didn't ride enough meetings? It's not like they won't count NT matches at all, as any rider who doesn't have a NL average will use the NT one for 2026. I just find it bizarre that 4 matches gains you a new average, but 5 doesn't!

  50. I do understand psychology but you can't just go to a psychologist and become a Speedway rider, you've got to gain experience, something Boughen just doesn't have and he was/is a long way off top level.
