  1. this is half the problem with the sport, being portrayed as a family sport, we need to step away from that, especially now families have been priced out of it, sell it as what it is, an extreme sport

  2. Special mention to Joe Thompson, looked like he was going to pick up his scoring drought where he left off last season early on at Belle Vue but then since has showed some real signs of progress 👍👏

  3. Result does not shock me. Results like this will happen all season. And as I've said previously elsewhere. This will be a good close season where everyone has a chance of a top 4 or even finishing top. Why is this??? Well because all teams look crap. So gonna be a good season

  4. Don't get me wrong Cue it doesn't bother me personally I swear lots myself but for whats portrayed as a family sport with kids under say 15 and for sponsors its not a great look, can you imagine the scenes if Ronaldo was interviewed on Sky Sports after a match and launched into a tirade. As I say his mental strength to come back from looking death in the face and pretty much learning to walk again is massively impressive and he's probably Englands greatest rider ever. This has been done through sheer hard graft as I don't have him down as having the natural talent of riders such as Loram or Screen but at his peak he had a fantastic racing brain for reading where other riders would head on the track. Just feel he could be so much more when the time comes if he decided to give something back to the sport when his riding days are over but given his temperment and the old guard its a marriage that would probably last a week.

  5. Ashfield, tomorrow night. 7:30PM (UK time)/10PM (Tehran time). The forecast does not look good. Prediction, should this go ahead: Glasgow 49, Berwick 41, me to cringe at least four times when the presenter says ”Lively Leon Flint” and the announcer to give the wrong time twice, incorrectly confirm the score four times and say the wrong rider won the last race six times. All of which will be supplemented by music more suited to an 80s gay disco than a sporting event.

  6. And Swindon VMCC Moonrakers ran an autojumble at the Abbey on the Easter bank holiday Mondays. Our local cattle Market site runs car boot sales every Sunday, an autojumble 3 times a year, motorcycle training, Lorry park every evening as well a regular livestock auctions, franchises the cafe, and a local motor club uses it for a special test for a car club rally There were similar opportunities available for the Abbey as well as Speedway and Greyhounds, but if these opportunities are not utilised , it is easy to make it look like it adds no value to the community and is not viable

  7. If anybody runs into a Northamptoningham fan at King's Lynn can you explain to them why they've not been knocked out of the Knock Out Cup if they lose 😁

  9. Credit to both teams on serving up a very good nights racing in not ideal conditions. Promising from both our new signings with more to come from them.

  10. Proper speedway, done and dusted by 9.05pm to try and avoid the advancing rain. Minimal tractor grading, lets have this every week.

  11. What a fantastic meeting, credit to both teams for puting on a show in tricky conditions, Bomber and Kyle doing some mental moves. Heat 15 in torrential rain they were still racing and passing to get the 5-1, not sure how they managed to stay on, very few gate and go races. Hopefully a good match tomorrow at Shielfield, with Bomber doing bomber things, and at least a bonus point to the tiggers.

  12. How Bomber stayed on his bike tonight is beyond me. Look forward to every race he is in. Well done Glasgow track staff on a great meeting.

  17. Czestochowa wouldn't win a meeting in the British PREMIERSHIP let alone the Polish Ekstraliga. The worst 1-7 I've ever seen in the Polish top flight.

  20. Leicester have a decent record at Owlerton - didn't go last night but they have won there previously so not as much of a surprise i perhaps many felt. Not having Fricke means they do look strong all the way through and its good to see Joe Thompson getting some points has he has struggled sometimes. Also have a lot of time for Dan and good to see him scoring well, beating Holder in heat 1 is a decent scalp!

  21. Oxford Speedway was a viable proposition back in 1975 but it didn't stop Osborne under the guise of Bristol Stadium Ltd from selling the stadium to the council with a view of developing the site for housing. Thankfully an SOS Committee was formed of which my uncle was one and stepped in to save the stadium. And of course he was later involved with the debacle of Bristol Speedway of which he has been quoted as saying it was a success which of course it was regarding attendances but he and his fellow consortium members never got planning permission and were forced to close after only two years of operation. He has always been a shady character!

  23. Enjoyed that tonight despite the lack of passing. As a neutral you could easily sense the tension with the closeness of the scoreline. Great to see a good passionate crowd. I've said before the best advert for British speedway would be to get the rights to the Extraliga and give it to ITV2 or even BBC red button I'm sure British Basketball and Ice Hockey benefit from NBA and NHL being broadcast. Of course you have to have a product that is vaguely similar if you're going to retain any spectators generated....

  25. 8 races in yet to beat anyone not a good look. Genuinely on a 3.00 thought he’d be okay and pick up a few points but looks like he’s never seen a speedway bike before so far.

  26. Well done to Chris, Kyle and Victor for finishing heat 15 after the track suddenly found itself under a waterfall. Close meeting, the top 3 for the bandits made it difficult to get a heat advantage but the Tigers managed to pick up a few good 3rds to pull ahead. Harris and Howarth very strong and the KJP-Flint pairing looks like it'll be very strong. Hagon also did well though maybe too wide a couple times. Mario had speed laps 2-4 but going nowhere lap 1 made it difficult for him. Freddy seemed to have equipment struggles but he should come on. Bandits overall look like a solid outfit, just need a bit more support from the second strings and reserves and they can hit big points. Should be a criminal offence subjecting people to that music, wished we had Scunthorpe's speaker system during the intervals.

  28. That's the difference between UK fans watching and Polish fans of the two teams... We, over here, measure Speedway in "Entertainment Value" ie the racing is the main reason we go, given win or lose, there isn't any major reward, or prestige .. The fans of both teams there in the stadium, or watching at home, won't give a monkeys as to how good, or not, the racing may be, all they will want is the win!!!

  30. Scotty never gives up on chasing the pack and his knowledge in the pits will give added value to those with less experience. I hope you are wrong for this stalwart of British Speedway who never knows when he is beaten. That aside does it really matter who comes out on top as long as the sport survives and punters enjoy the evenings racing.

  31. That lap from lindgren there while in front is why he will never be world champion, clearly didnt read the track at all

  32. Paluch will not line up for Stal tonight. A wrist injury has been problematic all day and it’s a 80% chance he will not start. A youth rider is coming tonight to be prepared to replace Paluch.

  35. Tigers lost last night on the gate. None of the 3 heat leaders were getting out of the gate well, and also Flint was struggling compared to last year where his gating was key to his scoring. Not sure what has happened to Jack Holder, but his gating was poor last year for both Sheffield and in the GPs, and it looks to be continuing. Killeen could be a very good RS from what I have seen in the 2 home matches. Once he gets used to the track he could surprise a few. Battled in every race but just couldn't find the pass.

  36. Is the old swearer their tonight ? hope his recovery is going well got to respect his incredible mental strength but he's a terrible advert for British speedway with the constant f bombs.

  38. Not sticking up for Osbourne but he has already has a long history in speedway and stock cars but he is a business man and is in business to make money and if speedway was in a better financial position then I’m sure he would be on speedways side

  39. Presumably he has opted out of the RS scheme to take the No6 spot so I would expect that switch not to be an option

  40. FWIW, I’m not against 80s gay disco in the right environment (a 60th birthday party or an Elton John tribute act, for example), but that environment isn’t at a sporting event. We do a lot very well at Ashfield, but in terms of audible presentation, it’s dreadful. Utterly woeful. Glasgow - and British speedway as a whole, to be fair - has to rebrand itself, similar to what darts went through. Instead, we’re forced to endure incorrect announcements relating to riders, scores and times while we’re made to tolerate forced, dated, amateurish broadcasting like ”Lively Leon Flint”.

  41. Above all having any speedway to watch last night at Oxford is the real winner. Costs of a rain off or abandonment could have been catastrophic. Was it a classic? No Was it a fair and safe track for the riders given the expected weather conditions? Yes Were Oxford sharper out of the starts? Yes. I think some of the criticism of the riders given the conditions and personal circumstances are unwarranted. People seem to forget Lawson had a major smash and mechanical write offs recently so will be playing catch up with fitness and equipment. Sedgman dropped everything to drive down to Oxford so had no time to prepare and set up for Oxford. I agree he is not a track specialist but marketed that way to soften the blow of losing Riss. Oxford could have gone for the cheaper option of r/r so fair play to both parties. I think Newman rode better than points suggested but lost out from the gates but not his riding or speed. Rushen will be hell of a rider and was giving 100% every single second. The only rider that based on last nights performance that disappointed me was Bowes who didn’t ride like a team man and wrecked the run of his team mate in one heat and looked quite erratic in another, that said he has been used to the bigger tracks so could have been struggling with a slick, tighter track. But I bet he learned lots so take the positives.

  42. Given the current circumstances surrounding Oxford, I think getting the meeting on was the top priority. A rain-off could have been disastrous. Yes, the track was pretty awful, but let's just be glad Oxford are actually coming to the tapes at the moment. Some perspective is needed I feel.
