  1. Much is made of how good the NSS track is but in reality it's a narrow one-line track in the latter stages of these meetings, whoever gets to the dirt line beside the fence first coming out of the second bend first lap is pretty much guaranteed the win as long as they don't make a mistake.

  2. Update on former Berwick rider Connor Coles posted on social media. After 6½ weeks in hospital and rehabilitation, Connor is finally home. To say we’re grateful is an understatement. There were times when we didn’t know what the future would look like, so having him back home with us and the girls is the best feeling in the world. The progress he has made has been incredible. Just over two weeks ago he was largely bedbound, struggling to talk and eating puréed food. Today he’s walking, talking (all be it still very quietly) eating normal meals and continuing his recovery at home with his family. He still has a long road ahead, with ongoing appointments, exercises and rehabilitation, but today is a huge milestone and one we weren’t sure we’d see so soon. Thank you to everyone who has supported us, checked in on us, helped with the girls, visited Connor, donated, fundraised and kept us going through the hardest weeks of our lives. Every message, phone call and act of kindness has meant more than you’ll ever know. We also want to thank every single member of staff involved in Connor’s care and rehabilitation. Your support, encouragement, expertise and belief in him have helped get him home to us, and we will be forever grateful. Recovery doesn’t stop here, but we’re simply grateful to have our family back under one roof agai

  3. Agreed. Kurtz is a bit of a one trick pony so needed to take advantage of two home GPs. I doubt he will have that advantage tomorrow on a wet track.

  5. He's doing exactly as I expected, much like all of the other U21 champs who've been way out of their depth, it's not a finishing school

  6. Isn't tomorrow the sold ouit night?... Instead of moaning about the TV coverage, and crowd sizes, maybe some of you should attend UK Speedway meetings... Like me...

  8. I've just seen a bloke with a long white beard, at the front of a huge boat full of his family, and thousands of animals going up the A6 through Stockport... Travelling away from Manchester, and shaking his head... He said he was going to try Buxton...

  9. Solid Grand Prix, well done all involved including track staff and riders. Great event and leaving people with little to complain about (apart from the camera work) but it was a good watch 👏🏻 I hope tomorrow is similar! Something tells me it would have been epic if Bewley was there!

  10. Did you not see Leon Madsen cut back going into turn 3 and pass the whole field?

  11. Because it rained on a slick surface before that was great racing inside and out.

  15. Amazing bike skills, best there is.

  16. He just turns a bike quicker than anyone else.. Never seen a rider before who can fly into an apex of a bend and then, instead of going towards the fence, hook the arse end round, and maintain speed and momentum... An incredible talent...

  17. In defence of Woryna, If it wasn't for him then this GP series wouldn't be watchable considering Zmarzlik's main competition are missing through injuries. He's the only rider providing some form of entertainment imo, Because the rest just wave Zmarzlik through 24/7.

  18. As reckless as he was, I don't think he anticipated Madsen slowing down so much in front of him

  23. Sounds like good incentive for riders to tackle wet conditions rather than pack the bikes up as soon as there is a dark cloud in the sky

  24. Serious question, in an age when meetings are called off at a whim, Why hasn’t this been called off when there is rain forecasted all day and night in Manchester.

  25. We have been watering the track this afternoon and evening. Track needed it. Tomorrow wont be as wet as people think. Saturday is only patchy rain and again it wouldn't surprise me if we water it before the start time

  29. Exactly , the likes of Pedersen would never give him the room he gets with the current crop and life would be much more difficult for him. Take nothing away from him though, hes a great talent and should make the most of him.

  31. I think they should hold the meeting up until the rain passes, then come out and kick the track around hidden under big umbrellas, send a tractor round to completely bugger the track up and then call it and draw lots to decide the winner or something...

  45. Also another point would be they changed the time for Cardiff so people could travel back the same day but the Manchester gp is at 7! Plus if you were not rushing home you could walk and have a nice meal afterwards, you cant do that after the gp tonight, you have to eat beforehand or have something from the overpriced food outlets.

  46. Definitely miss Wembley and the amazing atmosphere there . There’s pluses and minuses to a one off final . It’s a big plus imo. One thing though about Cardiff is that the stadium is right in the city centre, accessible to everything the city has to offer . A weekend in Wembley itself would be a bit different I reckon these days 😬. The day itself though would be amazing.

  47. Obviously a log of justifiable criticism of the track but it it hadnt been so bumpy Bomber would never have won, he loves a challenge! As a Poole fan Lindback winning was another highlight especially as I had a decent bet on him. Criticism of the hotels is justified also but you didn't have to stay in Cardiff, we hardly ever did preferring to stay outside Cardiff and get a train in.

  49. Whilst I agree with some of the comments highlighting the financial implications of screening these meetings and the fact that clearly Mayfield Sports can't afford, or don't want to spend the necessary sums to show them, there are in my opinion some anomalies in all of this, and indeed in the way the whole series has been promoted over the past few years. Firstly let's examine WBD, who proclaimed endlessly we were entering a "new era" of speedway. This crowd then gave control of the whole thing to a bunch of people who had very little, if any, knowledge of the sport. Incredibly they created a rolling package whereby considerably more than 100 people (honestly!) were transported around Europe for each SGP. The costs of this must have been enormous! Not only that, but they then tried to "Formula 1ise" the world championship by creating the most ridiculous system of running in front of empty stadiums for what was essentially practice, and made it even more ridiculous by then dishing out world championship points to the riders who got to the final 4 man race of the practice, again in front of empty stadiums. You couldn't make this utter nonsense up!! As if that wasn't enough they introduced drones and steadfastly refused to change this introduction when many fans complained bitterly that it interfered with their TV viewing. TV viewing that was proving to be costly and expensive. Their 10 year master plan quickly fell apart and they panicked and pressed the eject button to escape at the half way stage through their get-out clause. But before we leave them, let's not forget that they also made the whole series harder than ever to access, with difficult to find channels and live events hidden away in expensive pay per view places. It was an unknown-to-speedway fans company that out of the blue stepped in. Mayfield Sports. Most of us had no idea who they actually were. Now, we are only two SGPs in, so let's give them the benefit of the doubt as to what we are going to experience as we go forward. But the early signs as we have seen are slightly alarming. I was pleased to see the drones had gone. Firstly I imagined that was a decision based on customer feedback but now I suspect it's financially based and is a cost cutter. The fact that many SGP events are now 2 day events with meetings the day before suggests another attempt to close down the costs . Nothing actually wrong with that and actually it's sensible when you think about it. But, here's where it begins to unravel. This ditching of the screening of SoN2, SGP2 and SGP3 came out of nowhere and has, understandably, left lots of people unhappy. And it seems clear that Mayfield had no intention of telling folk beforehand. Until they were forced to. That's not good business sense. There's also been the reduction in prize money for the riders, which did come out pre season. So it seems we are now looking at a shoestring production, at least compared to previously. Richard Coleman claims he needs to get the SGP series itself right first, which is commendable, but let's put our hands on our hearts and ask ourselves seriously if you believe he will later extend things to what they were previously? And here's where I want to ask the question. Why didn't the FIM think about giving the whole series to Poland to promote? I'm pretty sure OneSport, organisers of the SEC series, have previously wanted to take it on, but were rejected. I have to ask the question, why? Poland leads everything in speedway. It's professional in every way at a level that no other country can match. Its weekly televised productions from Canal Sport and previously Eleven Sports are beautifully put together events that run to time, are superbly slick and professional and clearly there is a large pot of money to do things the way they should be done. Now, I completely understand that perhaps no Polish company came forward to promote, but I have to ask, were they actually asked? And if not, why not? To hell with FIM prejudices against the Poles, which clearly exist as Poland has long complained bitterly that they have to fork out more than other nations to stage SGP rounds. The FIM should, in my opinion, be begging OneSport or any other Polish TV company that will, to take this series by the scruff of the neck and promote it PROPERLY. Speedway is in a mess. Everyone knows that. Even Polish promoters and owners of clubs I've spoken with over the past couple of years are worried that their product is attracting less young people than previously. But, if we want to see our beloved sport, the sport where racing can be utterly spectacular and beautiful, be able to succeed, we have to market and promote it properly. And that includes promoting and televising the youngest and younger racers at world level too. If Mayfield Sports don't have the will, or the money to do that properly they should either change their business plan, or get out quick and be replaced by a company from Poland that can do it properly. It's the only way I see our world championship events remaining a serious TV proposition.
