  1. The only thing I've lost enthusiasm for is Christmas. It comes round far too quickly and starts sometime during September. Bah humbug!
  2. No it wasn't. I much prefer being the age I am now. No mortgage, no work, children grown up, please myself how I spend every day and what time I get up in the morning. In particular I'd hate to be in my teens again as that wasn't the most enjoyable time, although I suppose it should have been. Life was good when the children were small but that's it. So no I don't agree that 'everything in life seemed better when I was younger' and that includes Speedway.
  3. I don't think Peterborough are that healthy either.
  4. Oh damn you've gone and ruined it now. I was feeling really pleased with myself because I'd got it from the first clue and now you've given the game away.
  5. It's posts like this that make me enjoy the forum still. After a wasted journey to Brandon tonight thanks for the laugh.
  6. Yes I know. I'm in a funny mood today. I'm sure it will change after I've been to the Coventry v Eastbourne match.
  7. I was asked if I wanted to join this about 2 months ago, perhaps less than that, by someone called John Hyam.
  8. Afraid I've got to agree with Tsunami. I can't recall the racing being any better years ago than it is now - just a mixture of a few good races, the rest a bit processional and a nail biting exciting one if we were lucky. I've got a couple of Leicester v Coventry videos from 1982 and apart from the close score and the obvious rivalry the matches were nothing special. Same with the Wembley 1981 World Final that everyone seems to rave about - play it back and the racing wasn't that brilliant, apart from 3 or 4 races. I'm old and have been a fan since 1949 but I definitely don't yearn for the 'old days' or one off World Finals. What's wrong with speedway now is not down to the racing but many other things which have been discussed over and over again on the forum so I won't repeat them. It would also probably mean me saying that dreaded word 'Poole' at some point so I won't bother.
  9. Oh for heaven's sake! Another wasted trip for Sir Lunchalot after travelling from Belle Vue yesterday ......which was another wash out. I bet he'll be glad to get back to Australia.
  10. But could they? More than likely the rule wouldn't have been changed mid season for another promoter.
  11. As I don't have Sky the decision is easy - it would be the Swedish League on Eurosport. Would be but won't because I'm not interested.
  12. One of the reasons Speedway is going downhill over here - it's just too expensive. A programme should be no more than £1 like the Scunthorpe one or included in the admission price. All we need is the race programme and a few words from the promoter/manager not £2.50 plus worth of adverts and other rubbish to make it look like we're getting value for money. I refuse to buy one at Coventry now as that money will go towards my petrol from Leicester, and many others do the same, so the promoters in their wisdom go out of their way to make it difficult to print your own by releasing the teams in alphabetical order. If I can't find out I just take a blank piece of paper to write the scores down. Sorted. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in England and don't have a wasted journey to Lakeside as the weather forecast is not looking too brilliant at the moment.
  13. The G.P's are the absolute worse for messing around, but quite a few E.L. tracks have got the message now that fans don't like hanging around after a false start while riders go back to the pits for another five minutes. Previous to this season the pit gate at Coventry would immediately be opened if the race had to be re-run but it happens very rarely now thank goodness. Not the same with G.P's though - false start and all four riders head back to the pits and we all have to wait while Nicki wipes his face again with his snotty blue cloth and gets the hair dryer out, mechanics rush to tighten clutch plates and add more fuel. I'm sure there would be a new tyre fitted as well if there was enough time. Bah!!
  14. Only spoken to him once when he came over to see the dog so don't know anything about him being unpleasant or arrogant, but agree about commentating on races over the p.a. It wasn't just the last lap at Coventry either he would usually start half way through the race, but luckily I think he's been a bit restricted this season as the promoters have probably realised the fans do not like it. He is so damn annoying though when he butts in and talks over the announcer.
  15. Afternoon or evening? I wouldn't mind a few trips over there if it was in the afternoon.
  16. Oh sorry. Mind you Lucy would probably be pleased as she's scared of children.
  17. Glad it was on and a good result for The Storm. I didn't risk it in the end as it was raining in Leicester when I was due to leave.
  18. Me too. Doesn't bother me not seeing the so called 'big stars'.
  19. Yes me too. Only problem is the T.V books don't seem to include what's on Eurosport 2. I'd actually forgotten all about tonight's World Cup until someone commented about it on Facebook. Been very busy gardening and thought I'd go to ASDA for the weekly shop tonight instead of this afternoon - plans now changed.
  20. If you can see his face to circulate round every track you're cleverer than me.
  21. Me too. I'd probably also now know a better way home than the stupid idea the sat nav had. A15 Lincoln - A46 Newark. Okay in the day time perhaps but not in the dark on roads I'd never been on before. After about 23 miles I'd had enough and headed back to Scunthorpe. Love motorways so went on the M180, M18 and M1 to Leicester. It doesn't make me feel any better that Speedibee got back in an hour and a half using that route after his son's MDL match after the main meeting.
  22. That's disappointing. Colin Pratt has been back for several weeks now so it should be better than that.
  23. I always go to the Storm meetings but sounds like I was lucky to miss this one as we had been in North Yorkshire for the week and went to Scunthorpe via a detour back home. Never been before as it always clashes with Coventry's race night but was very impressed with the set up there and the racing was first class.
