  1. I dont think that gradings would work but do like the idea of the rolling averages not including the lowest few scores (and equally the highest few too)
  2. The stadium was a condition of the planning Only recently there were posts about no further build until the promises re the stadium were kept too
  3. If they wish to complain then it can be pointed out that the building of their house has been completed outside the agreed planning consent If they feel the stadium should be curtailed then perhaps they will accept their house being demolished as part of the enforcement too......
  4. More likely he already works 6 and therefore its not possible to do 2 more....
  5. Perhaps it was the same person but using different names - Im sure you would understand that situation
  6. The way I understand it is that the reduction applies to the team building total but not the riding positions
  7. I cant for the life of me think where I saw it either but thats the one!
  8. Perhaps I dreamt that he had picked up a hand injury then....
  9. Isnt he injured at the moment Pulled out of the Ben fund Could be a late twist???
  10. Fairplay to you Teaboy for your willingness and dedication to be involved
  11. I say leave it as a reminder of what a precarious position speedway finds itself in Perhaps it will help keep people thinking about what needs to be done to improve the situation
  12. The only shock for me was that it was Lawlor that was the one released
  13. Thats right Badge Buster picked up Danny after he became a BSPA asset when Birmingham failed
  14. https://ipswichwitches.co/j-louis-my-innings-in-speedway-has-been-brilliant/ Enjoy your retirement John
  15. Great point Steve and one thats important too Look at the numbers and there is no doubt for example Jarek Hampel is a better rider than an Alan Mogridge or a Ben Howe But if I had a time machine to go back and re watch old Witches meetings but could only choose a limited number I know which Id prioritise.....
  16. Indeed it is a distortion - although no more than Steves 18 race formula No1 only beats No1 scenario that I originally repiled to I wasnt really linking it so much to Sidneys view aside from the difficulty in comparing eras which I agree he can tie himself in knots with! The issue is often that the reasons given are pretty random and dont always make sense Id liken that with another analogy (which is a bit bonkers but bear with me!) The discussion is the weather One poster saying global warming means there are less days of rain Another says that cant be true as they have seen the stats that the average person uses their umbrella more often Averages must mean something right What is actually happening is that with more days of sun people are using their umbrellas as parasols (doubling up ) So yes it may be true that umbrellas are being used more but it isnt because it is raining more. The original poster points out the use is actually for the opposite reason but the responder just keeps saying umbrellas are used more Where Sidney goes wrong is he persists in using those inaccurate examples to try and prove his point rather than listen to the reasonings as to why he is misguided
  17. Im surprised you cant see this BWitcher To say the rider pool is irrelevant is just not the case - it is at least as important as the number of teams In many ways to deny this is the same trap Sidney falls into - it confuses practicalities with pure statistics You ask me to name 70 riders better than Staechman and Parker. That is a practical issue. There may or may not have been 70 better (infact quite probably not I agree) Statistically though IF there were 70 better then they wouldve become the 4 point riders in that bigger league rather than the 8 point riders they did because those introduced were at the lower end
  18. Essentially we are agreeing again Where the rider pool is stable then comparisons are relatively accurate My original point was that the statistics are less reliable when the rider pool and mix changes (ie between eras) which you have showed yourself too
  19. I agree with all your 'indisputable facts' because they are indeed indisputable I would disagree my suggested scenario is essentially impossible I used the term 'world class' as the examples being used were of extremes and this would be the opposite to the 'rookies' In reality those introduced would only had to have been marginally better than Staechman and Parker rather than actual world class for it to prove true and that would not have been 'essentially impossible' 8 team league 56 riders The riders is postions 20 - 35 are likely to be around 6 point average 16 team league with new riders at lower end those same 6 pointers will become 8 pointers (20/35 out of 112) 16 team league with new riders at higher end those same 6 pointers will become 4 pointers (70/85 out of 112)
  20. I appreciate that (I started but agreeing all your arguement is 100% correct) but was pointing out that the comparisons are not only affected by the number of teams changing but also by the pool of riders lost or gained as the change happens Take your example re Staechman and Parker becoming 8.5 point riders after being 6 point riders because of one big league. This was because the riders introduced to boost the numbers were low end 'rookies' below the standard of the pair Had the new rider pool been drawn from 'world class' level above the standard of that pair then their averages may well have fallen I was trying to set out why 2 people can disagree on the outcome yet having been using the same set of statistics You cant really compare one 16 team league with another 16 team league let alone a 16 team league with a 7/8 team league from the average figures alone as other significant variables are in play rather than just league size
  21. Given that I cant put my hand up for Byker () and you can - could you please clarify my point about when companies have to have the accounts audited I wouldnt want any misunderstanding as a result of my lack of qualification
