  1. Plus Greg Blair, guesting at Belle Vue, l think?
  2. I'm not sure. No inside knowledge, but I believe each club can nominate any two of their top three available riders for Oxford. So perm any two from Bomber, Jye and Ricky? Will be a good night, tho.... Oxford's really good, and will apparently be sold out by that night.
  3. While a terrific and well-deserved honour for our U19 Champion, if the GP practice is on the Friday, this would mean he'll miss the Pairs, as he should take every opportunity to mix with the best riders in the world at Cardiff.
  4. Safe bet that in the Final the two riders had the best edges available ( including Leon's) on their bikes..
  5. Pardon my asking, sandking, but what 's your obsession with race times for every meeting? You running a database?
  6. Alain Baxter. Very much an innocent party, he used an inhaler bought over the counter in America which -- although branded as the same stuff -- had in it a load of stronger stuff than the same inhaler sold in the UK. He would have been the first-ever Brit to win an Olympic medal for ski-ing. A shame.
  7. Fine, but..... If the extra tournament had been staged in springtime, the meetings now taking place would be Championship matches -- with the same number of injured/suspended/unavailable riders missing. Birmingham (and Plymouth) have been blighted this season, with every effort to replace long-term absentees thwarted by total unavailability of new riders. The real reason for the drastic rider-famine is Brexit. Any speedway fan who voted for it must now be realising what a monster they helped create.
  8. Maybe a virus? Heard there was a bug about called Covid....
  9. Kyren Lyden now on board, allowing Lewis Miller to regroup and find his mojo again.
  10. To clarify, when the first, temporary, visa was applied for, Berwick didnt have any fixtures after last night until next weekend. They are assured (by the visa people) his permanent visa would be granted prior to next Saturday. The meeting today, which is a rearrangement if the earlier, rained-off date, wasnt in the list when the original deal was made. We now await the Home Office keeping their word about the visa. Priti Patel may have to bully some underling into getting it done!
  11. Kevin Moore, good experienced speedway man. Used to run the Anglia Junior League in the late 'seventies, announced at King's Lynn, etc. Safe pair of hands.
  12. The pre-meeting stand out as you say, but on track he had to work hard, not least when faced with Jake Mulford, who was excellent value, coming from the back several times -- although in Heat 19, Leon certainly showed Jake the way home!
  13. George English was very much in evidence at Redcar during the meeting, maybe he helped arrange the deal?
  14. Luke Harrison in for Little Vinnie..... Another sparkling 15-year-old prospect. This will be interesting, to see who's looking strongest between Luke, Max Perry, Ace P and Jody Scott, as these lads could be Britain's future in a few years' time......
  15. The programme from the previous meeting -- washed out by a freak thunderstorm at 6pm, before the gates were opened -- contained information the club wanted to publish at an early date, but as Scunthorpe couldn't come back until the end of August it was decided to issue the already-printed programme plus insert for Poole's visit. As a club running (successfully) to a very tight budget, Berwick have to consider every economy to keep their books balanced.
  16. In addition to Leon -- starting a run of nine meetings in ten days, as he told us last Saturday -- Ace Pijper is also in tonight's field.
  17. This match forms the second part of a double-header (opening act is Bandits v Monarchs in Jubilee League) and should start around 8.15pm. Second Shielfield Park meeting of the year between two of the top NDL sides, with a place in the final against Mildenhall the prize. With Kieran Douglas still sidelined and NDL regulations allowing only an unattached 3-point guest, GHT Bullets have recruited Middlesbrough-based Kyran Lyden to ride at reserve. Kyran actually rode for the Cubs at Shielfield in the league meeting between the same sides! GHT Bullets: 1 Kyle Bickley (capt), 2 Ace Pijper, 3 Mason Watson, 4 Luke Crang, 5 Greg Blair, 6 Kyran Lyden (unattached guest), 7 Ben Rathbone Lion Cubs: 1 Dan Thompson, 2 Mickie Simpson, 3 Connor Coles, 4 Tom Spencer, 5 Joe Thompson (capt), 6 Vinnie Foord, 7 Max Perry. Tapes-up for the first (Bandits/Monarchs) match at 6.30, and with the annual circus in town, part of the (free) Shielfield car-park will be unavailable, so prompt arrival will mean not missing any of the action. Admission (30 heat double-header) Adults £24, Concessions/OAP/Students £20, Accompanied Juniors (12-15 years) £6 (free if booked online) Accompanied Children (Under 12) £1 (free if booked online). Online tickets are the club's recommended way to enjoy speedway at Shielfield Park. It's quick and easy, you get your money straight back in the event of a cancellation and the administration is much less of a burden on an already hard-working and committed volunteer staff. Book at www.berwickspeedway.com/tickets Cash turnstiles will be open as usual, but any children entering at that point will require to be paid for.
  18. Another thirty-race extravaganza at Shielfield this Saturday. Both Bandits and Edinburgh will track teams affected by the Euro-pairs round at Macon in France. Charles Wright (in fine form for Redcar last week) steps in for Chris Harris, while Monarchs are in no way weakened by Complin and Andersen replacing their two Euro-hopefuls. Tapes-up at 6.30, and with the annual circus in town, part of the (free) Shielfield car-park will be unavailable, so prompt arrival will mean not missing any of the action. Admission (30 heat double-header) Adults £24, Concessions/OAP/Students £20, Accompanied Juniors (12-15 years) £6 (free if booked online) Accompanied Children (Under 12) £1 (free if booked online). FTS Bandits: 1 Charles Wright (guest), 2 Theo Pijper, 3 Jye Etheridge, 4 Ricky Wells, 5 Leon Flint (captain), 6 Jonas Knudsen, 7 Nathan Stoneman WTF Monarchs: 1 Sam Masters (captain), 2 Lee Complin (guest), 3 Kye Thomson, 4 Kasper Andersen (guest), 5 Josh Pickering, 6 Jacob Hook, 7 James Sarjeant (NDL teams for second match detailed in separate thread)
  19. Correct. Huge -- really huge -- difference in operating costs. NDL will be fine for a couple of year, build up a nest-egg of funding, pay off start-up bills
  20. I'm not sure about Jye riding? The team has been re-jigged and declared this morning with Spud at #5 for Reggie, and r/r at #3 for Leon. Bomber, Jonas and Theo all took heavy knocks last night, but are ready to race. In addition to the knocks and bruises -- only Nathan Stoneman wasn't involved in a heavy crash at Ashfield -- there are several badly-damaged bikes to be straightened and repaired before 7pm. No rest for the wicked! Onward and upward!
  21. If the alternative is the' Glasgow Tigers Song' played at Ashfield -- be thankful for Neil D!
