The printed race card that R&R provides shows track at 391 metres, which is 428 yards. Belle Vue was 418 yards and I think Norwich was similar to BV. So it may be one of the biggest currently but not exceptional…which took me by surprise. What is exceptional is its width. Last night thy used whole track width for the 4 starting grids. I have seen that curtailed to a more “standard” width in the past, leaving a large part on te outside unused.

Good to see Mikelson stand on the top step. That win may just have earned him a pick for next years GP’s. The win tonight will add to his GP success before his injury. Well done to Leon. I think a review of the points given in the final needs a review to 4-3-2-1. Why. ? Leon went into this meeting 1 point behind Kolodzeij. He went into the final still one point behind even though Leon won the Last Chance and Kolodzeij was last. So Leon was still the one point behind. If he had come last in the final Leon would still be 1 point behind and Kolodzeij would have been Euro Champ. Surely getting to the final and finishing last is better then not getting to the final so all four finalists deserve an extra point. Tonight, one extra point for Leon would have got him into a face off for the Euro Champ title. Last in a GP final get more than one point more than a semi final loser.

His best GP years were 15 years or so ago. He is a gater. He rides like Laguta did prior to 2021…..get in a tight spot and he pulls out. That’s ok if you gate and earn a living, but that’s no good for GP’s. It’s like Berntzon said to Scotty last night “GP racing is a level above league racing”. Kolodzeij is riding for his pension pot. That’s ok, but not in the GP’s please. -

Then there is those who would like to see the 2 Russians back. Fricke doesn’t deserve to be in next year but Vaculik does, bad injury stopped him this year. What Nilsson and Kolodzeij will bring to the GP’s……I can’t see it being much. Woffy will get a place The selectors have a tough job anytime, but particularly this year. -
Next year Bewley, Lambert and Holder will have improved more. If Freddie can get rid of long covid and Madsen get completely fit and Woffy do what he says he is going to do then it could be a tough season for Zmarzlik. No Russians until complete withdrawal from Ukraine, which isn’t going to happen anytime soon. Remember the list of riders for next year will, traditionally, be announced within 24 hour of the last GP of the year.

Discovery+ (inc sports) may still do a free month trial. If you signed up today for a trial you will get tonight’s Mallila GP, tomorrow's British Championship, the final GP inTorun in two weeks time, plus any other speedway they doing ie Premier League within the time period. Gives you a chance to see the quality etc for free, maybe you decide to pay for a 12 month viewing contract (currently £60pa, sometimes offers on) sometime before next years racing starts.
