EUREKA! I got my copy of THE BOOK today. I contacted the office of TonyMac on Wednesday, posted on Thursday, dropped (heavily) through the letterbox at lunchtime today, Friday. Looked at chapter headings for a chapter to read first….. I started off with chapter 26 “To the mechanics”. Why?. Although I only did grass track racing at club level I always appreciated the help of my “mechanic”…. the next door neighbour. Peter appreciated his mechanics, hence a chapter to them. Also, one of Peters mechanics was George Clarke, another one from Partington. He gave up racing grass track to be Peters mechanic. You will see him in the photo after Peter won the world championship in Katowice, the one with the black bushy sideburns. Heck of a nice guy, got cancer and died too young. When George gave up the grass racing I bought his 250 race bike. The frame was a Drury, that is made by Graham Drury’s dad. Good frame, and helped me to a different level. I like how the top of each page has a red/black/white banner…..Belle Vue colours. The rest of the book i am going to read in chapter number order, starting this evening.

Y state pension is somewhat less than yours, circa £7200 pa, the wife’s is something less than that, approx £4500. Then I have a private pension, but totalled it is still less than a 40 hour week at minimum hourly rate. I appreciate how much more difficult it is for you….. are you not entitled to other benefits?

Last year when Sunak was chancellor the rate of inflation was 8.1% but he cut the amount paid to less than half that. By the time April 2022 came, when pension increase applies, the increase in my gas and council tax increase had wiped the rise out. My gas has gone up 40% on the last 12 months. Because I paid into a private pension I don’t qualify for any other benefits that may be offered to others. My dad was in the same situation. He too had a small private pension, every annual increase in that just kept him above the point where he and mum could have got benefits to make their life conmfier.

It would be nice to have an update….like have they all now been sent out in the post/when. My bank statement says paid £20 via PayPal to Retroeditor on 5th October at 18:31.

Spectacular memories of him doing that. Watched this morning on you tube, 1982 world championship long track race when he hunted down Egon Muller on a really wet track….. amazing.

Just watched all 15 heats, just the races…none of the in between stuff, on Discovery+ and I thought this 2nd leg was more exciting, by a short head, than the first leg. A really good meeting, well done to both teams. Usually good meetings between BV and Sheffield, even back in the 60’s and 70’s.

I was being cynical when I said what’s one more manipulation of the rules. I followed with “that is if it is a manipulation of the rules. Maybe the legal bods at BV are standing up to manipulation but it’s not seen by everyone”.

It is likely the first reserve may called up to cover injury for a GP or two, but highly unusual one, never mind two would get a full season in like this year. I hope the reason of 2022 never occurs again. So, what the selectors have done this year is put a strong contender at the top, Lebedevs, and bounced around other nations whose riders have shown glimmer of hope during 2022 and give them a hope to cling on to. Fair do's in my mind. Though I do admit Rasmus Jensen in my mind it must have been close....Jensen instead of Lebedevs would have been acceptable.

That sounds like you want riders who are clearly in the top batch in the world should step down purely because they have been at the top for a few years and still are. Perhaps the top 3 this year should not be in next years series, fed up with them winning.
