    June 1965

My highlights from sixty years ago but what do you remember? https://classicspeedwaymemories.webador.co.uk/june-2025/the-bls-first-season-june-1965
  2. Next month a look at both meetings run in Belfast.
  3. Spires can't step down, can they? It's game over if the Premiership falls below six.
  4. Anyone make it to Ashington in 1972, a poor year for open licence venues as Motherwell was even worse. Here's what I've cobbled together from contemporary reports. Stand to be corrected by any eye witnesses accounts of these meetings. https://classicspeedwaymemories.webador.co.uk/june-2025/terrible-twos-ashington-1972
  5. Anyone remember Briggo getting surprised by Eamonn Andrews about 50 years ago. Seems to remember they were reluctant to let riders speak in case they swore but happily had a nurse who tended him after his finger injury say her piece
  6. https://classicspeedwaymemories.webador.co.uk/june-2025/the-last-rider-promoter Trevor brought speedway back to Glasgow and Wembley. What are your memories of this colourful guy?
  7. It still finished earlier than most Glasgow meetings.
  8. Edinburgh have raced on nights other than Fridays when it suited them so why should Glasgow go off night just to suit you?
  9. Don't understand the relevance of "within a week after Workington". It was the first free Friday for both clubs. The next one looks like being August 15.
  10. Sorry but we couldn't have gone with one rider in heat 14 as Boughen wasn't eligible to ride in it. No Tac Subs, the only way he could have been eligible. are allowed in the KO Cup.
  11. Have done the same myself. As you say his average for 2025 meetings is barely over 3.00 and falling.
  12. Can't see that at all! His average for June will be 5.27 based on his last 20 qualifying meeting.
  13. Glad you like it Bavarian. Trevor is still fondly remembered by those of my generation up here in the West of Scotland.
  14. a Read bout Terrible Twos - the ill fated Ashington venture Barry Briggs This is Your Life - Briggo on TV Sixty Years ago the BL's First Season - a look at happenings in June 1965 The Last Rider Promoter - the life and times of Trevor Redmond classicspeedwaymemories.webador.co.uk/june-2025
  15. And only two of the six meetings staged at Ashfield have been on Fridays, a really weird start to the season and not one to establish a regular speedway going habit among newbies ... Or indeed regulars.
  16. I\Just checked my call log, I texted my family telling them of the time change at 13.02 yesterday and I wasn't that prompt so the advice was posted shortly after noon.
  17. Thought the FIM paid the club a "rental" for the use of the track but could be wrong, though do clubs pay BSPL to run shared events?
  18. Is this more aggressive approach the way ahead or too costly if it goes wrong. Presumably the FIM have the financial clout to withstand a few setbacks but clubs less so.
  19. Sounds a plan and we'll leave the problem of a date for the league meeting until another time. Interestingly BSN say that they haven't been given dates by the BSPL for the semis and that the semis aren't part of their schedule, so they have no part in any delays.
  20. You've already posted this. Not a problem for Zischke so not a consideration re Ashton.
  21. Sorry but that's unlikely as Zischke who is actually riding in the SGP2 meeting is turning out for Workington at Edinburgh tomorrow night. We really need a fixtures secretary to set dates and not let teams defer because of injury etc.
  22. Didn't say it had to be at Oxford! At Poole on June 25 ok with you?
