Workington 2025

Recommended Posts

If they were going to be reinstated today and all was going to be well then they wouldn’t have needed to cancel their meeting against Berwick tomorrow, forcing Berwick to organise an alternative fixture against Edinburgh.

I expect this to drag on for a while.

You;ve hit the nail on the head. The days when the bike and leathers were 2nd hand have long gone, but also young riders of today are safe in the knowledge that thier team spots are safe due to the lake of riders. Back in the day, if you had a couple of bad meetings, there was always another rider the club would give a go. btw, You talk about scruffy oiks. A  certain young lad who went on to be one of the best. Started out with an old weslake Tatty pair of 2nd hand leather. He would have been laughed at by all these youngster today with the big vans and 3 bikes and mechanics to boot! His name was Joe Screen!!

I remember many moons ago Mike Sampson, Bob Coles and Chris Roynon used to pitch up to Holker Street in an old ford zodiac with a three bike trailer on the back.

7 meetings does not a Speedway season make.

But apparently 11 make a Championship season - 2 BSN, 1 cup & 8 league matches.

That will be why riders have to double up and fans don't know when the next meeting is as there's large gaps in the racing calendar.

I'm not exactly sure who's happy with this at the moment... Poole?

Can't see Poole being there next Saturday

They'll need to hurry and sort it out or risk running out of time. The weather hasn't been great

If any Government department is involved they won't be in any rush, I can see Workington's results being expunged, meanwhile what happens with the riders ? they still have bills to pay, this cannot be allowed to go on for much longer.

If any of the Comets team have financial worries as a result of this unfortunate hiatus in their season, they might consider applying to the (excellent) SRBF for help.

It's this attitude that stinks, and one that British Speedway also seems to abide by. It's all cloak and daggers, and treating the fans with little to no respect. Of course people have the right to know. We're the paying public, without us no speedway club would exist. Many of us have been impacted, and lost out financially for having paid accommodation for meetings that have been cancelled as a result of this. But no....screw us.... we don't matter.

Well said. I've never known a sport care so little for its fans.

Maybe because this is a government matter (visa’s) they are not allowed to say to not jeopardise the procedure ?

Which would be ultra vires and expose the charity to the risk of being struck off, surely payment out of the BSPL bond would be a more logical means of recourse

Just out of interest, did you throw a hissy fit, and get this dramatic, a few months ago when Marks & Spencer had a major I.T. problem, and all their online business was shut down for over 2 months?

Did you get all angry and demand answers from M&S when they said they had a "cyber issue" just as you have when Workington said they had an "administration issue"?

To be honest, I'm not that bothered if Workington's fixtures are moved back a couple of weeks.  I was rather worried about M&S, knowing that they had my credit card details.    However I sat it out, and trusted M&S and the regulatory bodies to sort it out.  I didn't feel the need to demand further private details of whether they were being held to ransom by Russian hackers.   So, I'm just curious why you're getting so hysterical about a couple of weeks of sorting some visa paperwork.
