Can't defend the indefensible IainB, I was on the 1st bend and was truly embarassed tonight. How there wasn't a reserve replacement in heat 13 is hard to fathom.

Denham said on BSN there was no point using reserve replacements or Tac Subs as riders needed track time.

surly he cant be called a professional speedway rider after that performance.

Very on point, his professionalism  tonight was severely undermined . How a number1 did not have a bike fit for the purpose of racing could be construed as a dereliction of duty.

Think most watching would agree that a switch should have taken place in heat 13, Batch wasn't getting any meaningful track time.

Just watched the meeting back on BSN.

I’ve never seen a rider purposely retire while in third place, subsequently blocking his fourth placed teammate in the process. One of the most bizarre things I’ve ever seen in speedway.

There’s more to it than we know. There must be. Your number one and captain doesn’t put on a show like that without reason.

Not sure about that. On ability not much between them. Worky have annoyed him for some reason imo.

He is just a disgrace to the sport. Done the same for several other teams in the past. Should be sacked and no other team should touch him with a barge pole!

Disgraceful attitude by Batch just giving up and pulling up at the back when things aren't going his way. Nothing new there. Why do teams bother employing him?

Because he averaged eight and a half last year and had a decent season. But there will be the odd night where he is totally disinterested (pairs a couple of years ago) and that's the risk. He'd never be in any team of mine but his ability when he can be arsed gets him jobs.

Yes it was a bad night for the team but lets not forget batch saved us a few times last season he turned up every meeting unlike others ,so just move on hope he puts it right today redcar will be a tough act to beat.

He probably will turn up today and score well but if it is bikes you could borrow someone else's, I know its not ideal because you are used to own bike but it is possible. The problem is he doesnt have that attitude, if things start badly he wont try to turn it around.  A bad night wont turn fans against a rider but a bad attitude will. It brings to mind a meeting Poole had against Kings Lynn, the track wasnt great that night but Batchelor and Chris Holder refused to ride it, they both got sacked by Chapman that night.

As a travelling fan for my club, also, I feel your pain. I can't help but feel that those fans are entitled to some kind of explanation... other than "setup". I've been at matches before where the management of a team, home or away, have come on the pa to apologise for their poor performance. And while I can understand not singling out a particular rider, somebody should have asked and answered what was going on. It's not like this performance came from a young kid still trying to work his way out in the game. In fact Vinnie Foord was on BSN explaining that he had dirt in his fuel tank in the race that he retired from... nothing from B💩TCH.

Enjoyable night at EWR. Despite the score line, some decent racing.

Sun delay apart, the meeting ran well.

Batchelor was a disgrace. There was a good contingent of Worky fans and they didn't deserve that from their number one.

Thought Luke Harrison was good value, great rider to watch.

The article on the scunny website about the meeting was frank but very true, this is what they put.

Troy Batchelor was awful at No 1 for Workington – probably the worst-ever leading visitor to the Eddie Wright Raceway. The former Grand Prix rider looked completely disinterested, did not finish any of his four outings and even blocked team-mate Vuolas while pulling out of Heat 13. His lack of effort was an insult to travelling Workington fans who made over a three-hour journey to back their team.

Ruthless from Scunthorpe.😂

While I wholeheartedly agree, it’s somewhat unprofessional if that is indeed a direct quote from Scunthorpe’s official website.

As I said last night, there’s more to this situation than meets the eye. Your captain and number one doesn’t fail to complete four laps across four races without in his mind, reason.

Three weeks ago, Workington were applauded for their judgement and in their decision to retain Batchelor over Cook who, as far the paying public knew, was still AWOL at Berwick. It’s a funny old game, speedway.

Quite agree, while every word is probably spot on it's neither appropriate or professional for a club to lay into an opposing rider in their own match report like that.
