What about Northampton?

But apparently the management of said company continue to supply speedway tracks. I believe Mildenhall found an alternative supplier and that was allegedly why the BSPL/BSPA refused to licence the club. Another closed shop operation from those in charge of the sport.  What is the matter with the morons who run the sport in this country. Time for more clubs to jump ship, join NORA and break the stranglehold of those who are determined to take the sport to its nadir.

I was told that the same spec Polish air fence was around half the price of the 'Briggo' one. Some individuals, and those taking kickbacks continue to milk this sport dry...

If it's the "Woffy" fence, you can keep it!

Stinks of desperation . Opening a new track with no fanbase and slinging them into the top flight. Whoever is fronting this will lose a fortune.

Be interesting to see where it draws a regular decent home crowd from

Yes just like when they conned Ronnie Russell into taking Arena Essex into the top flight in 2004 with promises that help would be provided, they left us as whipping boys for the others to beat.

License’s are issued by the Speedway Control Board (SCB) not BSPL.

The bit I don't understand from the article is that it says plans to open are edging closer and in the same breath the original possible promoter has pulled out due to the high costs in getting it off the ground that doesn't sound like edging closer.

If it goes ahead given the massive financial risk involved they would be better off going in the championship to start with.

But would they be wanted/accepted there?

I think they would be but given the top flight is so weak on teams I would imagine the prem bosses will be trying to ensure that it didn't happen.

I seem to remember someone on here saying at a Lynn talk in Buster mentioned they were looking at a new top flight team but it might cost the existing promoters some money to make it happen hence I wonder if someone does take it on part of the risk will be underwritten.

However as others have said it is a huge risk financially so I can't imagine anyone would take it on say if 5x5K =£25k all in was offered by the existing promoters.

I would have thought it would need to be nearer 100k-150k would be needed up front from the existing five so the new teams promoters would probably be risking 50k-100k max if it went wrong which would still need a deep pockets person.

Spot on, i thought the article contained contradictions and looked like it had been hastily edited just prior to publication.

Surely, even getting things ready by May would be a major undertaking. The track probably needs widening, and by the sound of things all kinds of infrastructure needs to be put in place.

Then there's the need to generate local interest. This needs to be built-up over a period of time via local media and other marketing, all of which requires time and lots of money. They dont want to start the season without anyone locally knowing it's happening and without the right infrastructure! Maybe things are further along now than the article implied, but "edging forward" sounds more like 2027 than 2026!

Very similar plan occured to me: the existing 5 Prem promoters jointly run Oxford Spires (under BSPL banner) while setting up Northampton (or whoever) as the track / stadium are obv 'good to go'.  Unless of there were plannng / financial / other isuues running the Spires or indeed 3 teams out of one venue which I would have assumed would work ok: regular weekly speedway, mostly same riders....
