We’ll keep you posted”. Radio silence. Oxford speedway on 10/04: “Get your tickets for the next home meeting!” This isn’t just poor communication; it’s blatant disregard for the supporters of Oxford speedway. I feel sorry for Cheetahs fans who deserve better. That's not quite true, is it? Before the close of play yesterday (by the time you posted the above), an item had been added to the Oxford Speedway website, previewing the Plymouth meeting and updating the situation. Obviously, what Oxford were not going to do was promise a meeting next Wednesday until they were in a position where they could, especially after this Wednesday's postponement. The Oxford fans are happy, if you're not, that's up to you. Personally, I'm overjoyed. At points over the last week or so, I wondered if this was the end. You can't please all the people all the time and this is a classic case. You'd think everyone would be happy that a speedway track is continuing, but... If the statement had been shared here along with your call to ‘get your tickets’, it might have helped some of the recent posters feel a bit more at ease with the situation.
eric i
Good news but a very vague statement......... 'After several days of meetings – the situation has now reached a point where it is full steam ahead again for Cheetahs.'

Updating the situation? Let me directly quote Oxford’s statement: ”after several days of meetings – the situation has now reached a point where it is full steam ahead again for Cheetahs” If you, as an Oxford or even a speedway fan in general, are appeased by that, then my suggestion is to be quiet and enjoy what’s left of the sport in this country while the rest of us hold clubs and their stakeholders accountable to even a degree of standards. Popular Post King Jamie
This situation highlights the differences on either side of the fence. There's absolutely no way the Oxford management can keep fans fully up-to-date in a Sky News-esque ticker tape style barrage of information. Situations change constantly. So constantly that confusion would be the main outcome, with folks struggling to keep up. What are they expected to reveal? 'We have meetings planned'? A bit bland and unlikely to appease the news-hungry punter. They also most likely won't be allowed to reveal significant details of those meetings. The only thing that matters is whether the club has a future. It's a simple yes or no. On this occasion, happily, it's a yes. On the other side of the coin, fans can feel they're left in the dark, whilst craving updates aplenty. 'We are the lifeblood of the club. We deserve to know'. Well, yes, you do. But you only need to know the end result. The rest, if you're not a company official is, quite frankly, none of your business. It has to be kept in-house. The statement from the management is acceptable in my view. Good luck to Oxford.

Would be good for the club to put some meat on the bones to provide assurance of longevity though.

PhilTheAce
can the speedway run without the dogs as it might have to. the GBGB (Greyhound board of great britain) have already removed Oxford from the latest calendar published on friday. so the dogs are 100% finised there i imagine. can the speedway find the 2 million debt????? Why would the speedway need to find the 2 million debt, that’s an absurd thing to say! It’s quite simple really, the speedway now need to do their own lease agreement with the stadium owners rather than through a third party which included the dogs. As far as I know this new arrangement is agreed and it’s all systems go for the rest of the season.

Oxford Speedway Ltd have apparently reached an agreement to continue to operate at the stadium (obviously who with only they know). The debt, I believe, is owed by Oxford Stadium Limited. The stadium is owned by Galliards, so maybe they have come to an agreement over the lease payment for at least this season. Beyond that, who knows… Edited April 13 by Toady

The stadium Lease / rent was for £xxx a few weeks ago shared by speedway and the dogs, which the dogs appeared to pay the majority share via streaming fees, now the rent has to be found by speedway, which is totally not viable, so troubling times ahead

The original lease was for 15 years I believe but I could be wrong on that so the new lease for the speedway might only be short term. Gallard Homes can now say the stadium is not profitable and it will help there case to redevelop the land.

Hence that one is ripped up and put in the bin and a new speedway only lease has been agreed at a sensible rate for the amount of use the speedway has at the stadium. Its then up to stadium owners to try and do a new greyhound deal to make up the difference

The original lease that Kevin Boothby signed with Galliards was for ten years with a break clause for either party at five years. I also understand that they would not be interested in signing another long lease with anyone, so your thinking is correct. Our only hope, due to construction being difficult at the moment, is that they will allow us to stay for now.

They also have to get planning permission which will take an age even if it is successful. Maybe they think some income from the site as opposed to none is better in the meantime.
