2026 Premiership is Go! - At least 5 teams

Recommended Posts

If you're changing to one league then that has to be prepared for well before the end of the previous season so at this stage there's no real alternative. Only 5 teams is clearly not good but it was obvious to everyone that the problem was coming so they only have themselves to blame.

They just need to somehow get through this year now whilst getting a proper plan in place for 2027 and hope that it's not too late. They've missed several opportunities for a reset and they won't keep coming, time will run out eventually. Planning for a KO Cup with 5 sides doesn't give any confidence they're capable of it though, at the very least you would think they could come up with a fresh idea to replace that.

Hear there's a new range of BSPL sticking plasters being released just in time for Christmas.

A five team league is awful. With play-offs even more Mickey Mouse.Ā

Big change is needed (has been for years), nobody has the minerals to do it though. Easier to watch the sport die.

Why should fans hand over their hard earned when all they get is treated with contempt. Hand over more money for a worse product year on year.Ā

This gets trotted out time and time again, and it STILL doesn’t make any sense.Ā
Ā

Even in a cr@p five team league, if you get a standout team that hits the ground running and opens up a big gap early doors, EVERY meeting very early becomes meaningless, even for the club running away with it! With play offs, of course every pre-play off meeting isn’t meaningless, what on earth do you mean? Most clubs will be in with a chance of getting there right up until the end of the season!Ā
Ā

Of course there’ll be one or two who’ll cement their play off place in good time, and you can then say their remaining fixtures could be pointless. But play offs keep more teams interested and in the mix for longer, than just having the top team as champions. That’s surely obvious.Ā

It makes perfect sense. A team who runs away with a league title without play-offs has won the title across the entire season. The best team over the season wins the title. It's the fairest way.

A team can sneak into the play-offs at the last minute and win the league title due to late season form, possibly due to team changes, injuries elsewhere etc. With a league of only five teams, all bar one side qualifies. That renders all the league meetings next to pointless. Just don't be the worst side in the league. It opens the door to all sorts of average manipulation too.Ā

Meeting one should be as important as the last meeting of the season in the league campaign.Ā

Play-offs are often touted as good for TV. As it stands there is no TV and the whole play-off process makes the five team league even more tinpot.

Couldn't agree more, it's an embarrassment and let's be honest it has been for years now.Ā

Never known a Sport like it.Ā

Twenty six pounds ninety...

With no TV sponsorship , why a reduction? Even the double uppers will still demand increases to cover inflation ….and with so few riders available to race here in the UK ……

with fewer meetings , expect season tickets to be at 2025 prices and a rise in gate pricesĀ

Probably too late to arrange now but why not have the Knockout Cup involving both leagues. At least it would give some variety and renewed interest with different teams competing against each other.Ā

If a Championship team is drawn against a Premier League team then there is only one leg with the Championship team being at home. Otherwise, it's two legs home and away. Semi finals and Final to be over two legs no matter which teams get through to the latter stages. Try and get a sponsor on board with decent prize money and make it a trophy/tournament worth winning.Ā

Example of what some matches could be drawn out of the hat as:-

Plymouth v Kings Lynn, Poole v Belle Vue, Edinburgh v Sheffield etc. Would surely create a lot of interest and give the fans something different. Worth a try?
