Could Swedish tyre deal benefit Britain in ‘27?

Recommended Posts

SVEMO have signed a deal with Mitas meaning all riders in their three divisions will have to use those tyres in ‘27. The decision has been made based on costs and they state that it will prove cheaper for riders. However, the top stars are saying they don’t want to race on them and then change to Anlas for Poland, the GPs and Britain.

Robert Lambert has already threatened not to ride in Sweden next year due to the decision and the Polish press are reporting that Bartosz Zmarzlik has told people privately he will not return due to this ruling. Many others are also very unhappy.

So who will benefit most? Denmark or Britain? Poland’s ruling for ‘27 means that riders who have a team place there can only race in one other league. Which one will they choose?

I would suggest for the riders below the top tier, those not on the top contracts, then whoever pays the most will determine that decision..

Maybe. Above all else though, we should be ensuring we look after British speedway first. I don't claim to know the ins and outs of the tyre deal in Sweden, but it sounds as though they're trying to reduce costs for everyone, but the bigger names like Lambert (sponsored by Anlas...) and Zmarzlik are against it.

This quote is a pretty good stance IMO:

"If Zmarzlik, who earns millions of kronor, decides to stay home, that's his choice. For me, the most important thing is that Swedish riders are doing well," said Krister Gardell, head of speedway at the Swedish Motorcycle Federation.

Ensure British speedway is healthy and young Brits are actually being produced, then we can consider the bigger names as and when they become viable.

Lets be honest that picture just about sums up British Speedway, a professional sport amateur run with a leave it in the corner over there attitude. That pile of tyres represent the problems within the sport where them that rule walk past it every day with blinkers on saying to themselves if we ignore it all will be ok.
