Workington 2027

I'm surprised no one has done this yet but the comets return to the tapes in 2027, thankfully!

Floodlights, 7pm starts, and hopefully a better season is to come!

Who would we all like to see stay in comets colours?

1. Jeppesen - started the season fantastically. Was gating like he had a rocket strapped to him and was unbeatable around northside. Form dropped a little but still put some fantastic scores up.

2. Jakobsen - very erratic start to his British debut and spent most of first months on the deck or injured. Once he calmed down he started putting some better scores up and showed some real promise when dropped to reserve.

3. Tate - was quite consistent throughout the whole season and seemed to push on towards the back end for both comets and Belle vue. Hopefully the Glasgow rumours aren't true.

4. Batch - great captain for us and in his 3 seasons he has rarely missed a meeting. Put some solid scores in home and away.

5. Kemp - up and down since he joined. Some exceptional performances and some very poor ones. Unsure if it's mechanical gremlins or setup issues but seemed to struggle at times.

6. Vinnie - a rider who i felt sorry for. There's a good rider in there but it wasn't helped by suffering a horrible injury at the start of the season and then be catapulted into the main body of the team. He really needs a full season at reserve with better machinery too.

7. Perry - replaced Etherington quite early on and seemed to have hit the ground running away against Scunthorpe. A mixed bag once again. Sometimes good, other times scored 0.

Will they go up against the SGPs on those Saturdays, or..............?

Surely Kemp or Jeppesen will go back to Berwick with kildemand retiring,so you would imagine one of kemp/Jeppesen out alongside Perry and move jakobsen to reserve alongside Foord which would form a decent pairing at reserve it’s just getting the top 2 right as I feel Zischke can hold his own at no3 now as he’s had a great season and maybe a more balanced team with possibly Batch at 5.

Probably, makes no difference to the crowd. Most people will probably watch the GP's on demand anyways these days.

The only time over the last 27 years we've avoided running alongside the GP's was when we had a rider in it.

Running up against Workington Reds/Town at 3pm on Saturday/Sunday, is a far bigger issue in the Town IMO.

Been looking at this years away results. Remove Berwick in the ko cup and Poole in the league, in all the others comets got 40 points or more and most meetings went to a last year decider, which I think is a good effort, often it was the home form that cost us,  2 big defeats against Poole and Glasgow, and a couple of more poor performances, cost us the bonus points, also apparently we never had our same team in any home meeting  . So we were not far off a decent team this year. Personally I witnessed many good away performances and last year deciders, not gonna mention Poole or Berwick in the cup 😒.

As for next season, would like batch back, but maybe going south, Tate zischke is a must, Jonas did a good job, but depends on polish fixtures whether he would like a return . No issues in bringing Vinnie and Max back but Vinnie needs to sort out his machinery. For me kemp is too inconsistent and poor machinery. Let's all wait and see what the promotion brings to the GT tyres Northside arena, a lot could depend on budget, as we know the crowds need to be better, hopefully under lights at 7pm may help

Don’t think it will be Jeppesen at Berwick.

The biggest takeaway from this season should be the Home form, or lack of it. Every meeting we did win was far too close for comfort, often behind until the latter stages.

Also finished the season with a negative points difference at Home, across all League home meetings which probably hasn't happened before in our modern era.

Need to set up the team to win at home in 2027, especially when being realistic, we will probably lose the majority of away meetings no matter who is in the side, if you win all your home meetings and nick one away win, the club would be making the play offs more times than not.

One rider I would 100% have back to achieve this is Antti Vuolas, he easily averaged 8.5+ in both 24/25 seasons at home. And if the points limit does drop to 38, he would be a handy signing again on his 6 point something average, even if he does struggle away. His average will be good value in a weaker league

Why not plymouth and Berwick do has very little if any impact on crowd numbers imo. Supporters will always prefer live speedway
