I was one of the Pirates that went to this meeting, wasn't many of us but we were noisy! I didn't expect this result, I thought we would struggle but I wasn't banking on the amazing Hume, Danyon was fantastic, best I have seen him ride and deserved heat 15. I spent all evening chatting with his dad which was a bonus, lovely guy and very interesting. Rory looked as fast as I seen him this season, one race he was nearly half a lap in front. Both Cooks struggled but that didn't matter because Basso was also excellent with a never give up attitude which cost him when he was excluded in one race but he also took a rider in the last bend in another race. Worrall and King were also very good. Heat 9 should not have been all 4 back because Douglas fell on his own but it didn't matter. Poole were always in control and apart from Douglas Leicester were really not firing on all cylinders. Harris looked slow too and although he won an awarded race he didn't show the fighting spirit he showed the other night on a track he usually rides well. Captain Howarth and Morris showed spirit but very few riders in this league could have coped with Rorys speed and that was the foundation of this result in my opinion.

I found it very enjoyable last night. If you missed the gate you still had a good chance of making up ground. Difficult to prepare a track for two consecutive days of racing at this time of year with moisture in the ground and rain around. Hard slick tracks still provide good racing as we see in Poland regularly. Gutted forTai and the Swedes and yes, I do believe that Doyle caused both incidents, especially the first one as you see him look behind twice at the approaching Swedes on his outside and he cleverly drifted out to leave no racing room. As someone said earlier he is replacing Freddie and Pedersen as the rider you don't want to be on the outside of. Apart from those incidents, thoroughly enjoyed the close racing and full marks to Tom Brennan and Hellestom-Bangs , they were both superb especially the latter having to take on the whole world of speedway by himself, he should get a medal for his efforts.

Second and third place wins the final surely. Isn't that the whole point of the scoring system? Where are people getting the idea from that a heat win will win the final?

Just watched most of the meeting back on TV after being there….I came out of the stadium thinking I’d just watched a really good meeting and now i have watched it back on TV I still think I have watched a really good meeting.

Spot on... Last night had plenty of races with plenty of interest... Not sure when "how much passing there was" became the only barometer of whether a Speedway meeting was good or not, but, as you say, you can have great races which have no passes whatsoever.. Watching riders entering the bends flat out at such terrific speed, constantly swapping lines trying to find grip, with all four often within less than 10 yards of each other was great to watch... And at an average of £22.50 each for me and my lad per meeting, incredible value for money.. Hope the current heavy downpour doesnt make the track too grippy that it becomes like riding on rails on the inside, as that wont be great for the quality of racing.. Last night we had times at circa 65 seconds plus. If the track is grippy there will be a fair few seconds taken off those times by the out of sight winners..

The difference between racing last night and most of this years GPs is clear. I have already wiped out most of this years GPs from my recorder, some straight after the meeting. Last nights SON has not been wiped out and will no doubt be viewed a number of times during the winter months. It doesn’t matter how many overtakes there was in a race, Denmark v Australia has been highlighted. There was a lot of very close racing. That race between Den and Aussie, for the first two laps you could throw a blanket over all four, for the last two laps you could throw a blanket over the first three. Wembley was a poor race track, a lot of races were spread out. For sure there was good races, but very few would have been like that Den v Aussie race, and others from last night. What made Wembley was the atmosphere, 70,000 plus fans made it a great night.

I’m another one who was there and got home started reading all the comments on here and Facebook complaining about the track! There was some great racing today, really enjoyed it the racing is always better when it’s slick as when it’s grippy you just get fast riders riding round inside and no one can can get near them. Slick track means they have to search for the grip. Some muppets were saying the track was dangerous and caused the crashes, unbelievable! It was possibly a little too slick to start off with, that’s because they did 14 heats of practise that finished at 3.15, they were then only allowed 30 minutes to work on the track, so when the meeting started it was like after heat 14 of a normal meeting. Don’t know why practise couldn’t have been earlier! no practise tomorrow but there is going to be rain in the morning so track will be grippier and then the same people will be coming on complaining again.

Someone once said that Forum sites were where the miseries the world meet up. He was right. I was in the south stand and thought the whole spectacle was brilliant apart from the crashes. Zmarlik alone justifies the entrance fee. What a rider. Just what do people expect? Here's a challenge to everyone who thought that meeting was poor. Go on Youtube and find a meeting from the 70's, 80's, or 90's where there is multiple passing in every race and then post it on this forum. You will search in vain. This and and premiership plays off's have been represented the best of modern speedway as a spectacle. I've been watching speedway since the 60's and I'm not sure I've seen anything much better than these last three tv meetings.

Or run the KO Cup by end of June, meaning two comps dont end together and teams that start the season well, but then maybe get injuries, have a chance of trophy success.. And it also means that successful teams (like happened to Workington), dont have fans having to fork out four or five times in circa 20 days, as invariably they wont, and instead then cherry pick which meetings to attend, thus diluting the crowd levels that success should bring..

Just watching the stream now, gotta say Nicol was very unlucky in heat 12 when the race was stopped! Never moved before the tapes, just made a perfect start!

No point in having to name a squad then.....

No, In case of injury the team manager is allowed to change the squad.

I've just been back and read through the early posts due to the hysteria in the later posts calling for people to be banned from the forum because they thought the racing was no good. I can only find 1 post saying it's boring and another saying not as good as Monday. I think the main gripe was that practice was held so late that it didn't allow for time for the track to be prepped properly like it should have been for a World Championship event. Consequently the track had one line about an inch from the fence. So instead of riders passing inside and out with ease like we saw was doable on Monday evening we saw Desperate Dan kamikaze moves. If the dirt line hadn't been so wide Tai would not have been making that move, we all know he likes a cut back. PHB riding too wide, because it was the only line. Can't remember the Swedes crash but they were also pretty wide. I've seen quite a few meetings at BV over the years and you just don't see crashes, thankfully as it's a blummin fast track. To see 2 big ones in the same meeting and PHB's could easily have ended differently says a lot about the track. The racing was pretty good, better than you'd see at most places, the track perp on the other hand was a disgrace for a World Championship event.

No you are right Lisa but the rule is not right , young Thompson at Leicester is a prime example. He is a talented young lad who should also of been protected and the likes of Cook, Kennedy,Basso should not get the chance to find there feet at reserve.I believe the likes of Thompson, Hume ( ect) should only move up into the top five in there second season.

I personally heard Ivan expand on this very concept: "you have the white line on the left and the fence on your right and you ride on the bit in the middle" , he was a bit of card was Ivan when he let his hair down. Not every promotion is fortunate to begin with a clean sheet of paper, track building-wise, and good luck to those who are, it's very much a case of making the best out of what you have. IMO for every 'Berwick', big & fast, the needs to be a 'Wolves', tight & techncial, makes speedway more interesting. We can discuss 'best races at ABC & XYZ tracks' to our heart's content (and we do) but even wearing 2 pairs of rose-tinted shades, you can get great & ordinary racing on each and every track.....

If that's the case, it's finally a nice example of speedway doing the right thing, rather than a strict "rulebook" thing. The Swedes started well and got destroyed in their 2nd race. No-one wants to see 3 rider races through day 2, so it's great if they can have 2 riders on track on Sunday.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that track. It was a more then decent meeting with plenty of passing. It was slicker than usual given there was such an extensive practice. That only created more racing lines though, there was outside, inside and mid track. Impossible to defend and even harder to team ride. When a 3 time world champion said pretty much exactly that, I’d be inclined to trust his judgment. There were at least 5 races that were outstanding, some incredible speedway. I’ve seen way worse meetings than that this season around the NSS when the track has been pretty much perfect, and I know because I have a season ticket. In fact I’d go so far as saying that was the 2nd best meeting of the season after the PO final. That must have been at least 60 passes. As ever this forum is being destroyed by f%%%%%%g idiots and the MOD team, if one even exists, need to sort there s%%t out because it puts decent people off posting. Poles are a class apart and Tai isn’t the rider this season that he has been, Lambert was better overall. Id be using Bewley and Lambert tomorrow, I think we stand a better chance doing that. First time in years I’ve felt confident leaving Tai out of a GB line up, but we the reality is we currently have 2 riders who are better imo and in DB one who knows the track inside and out and has some serious speed around it.

Regarding the track, how many times have we heard various commentators and pundits say “the track will come good” or “the track will come to the riders”? The racing then becomes decent about heat 10-12 which is far too late. Today they had the equivalent of 14 heats before the meeting due to practice and then a short track prep. You can’t have it both ways, it’s either a virgin track or a “came to the riders” track. Just my opinion but as someone who no longer attends in person I thought it was a decent meeting on a reasonable track.

Thought in heat 9 Douglas should have been excluded. He fell on his own on the second bend but ref said first bend bunching.

The weather can be crap any day of the year in Britain,it’s the fact that the schedule gets so far behind,if we were just down to the 2 Finals by the end of Sept, time would be on the Clubs side if there was bad weather.Although the Season should really be finished by end of Sept. IMO
