That all but confirms Mayfield Sports are the new owners. That’s pretty huge and Louis has played a blinder there to be fair. I get you’re frustrated, everyone on here has been. But they released their AGM statement confirming five clubs, and talks were ongoing to grab a 6th. They’ve clearly been waiting on both Ipswich, and getting Northampton up and running. But until those two get completed, what can the BSPL say in the meantime? I get it. We all want regular updates, but if there’s nothing further to report then it’s pointless them coming out with a weekly “update”, that the update is there’s no further update!

Charles Wright's interview in the Speedway Star will be worth a read.

Yes we just need the bspl to remember they have a fan base/customers and to stop stringing us along to a point of folk have lost interest and all will be well in the sport 🙄
-
Thank you for that. So everything seems in place, and ready to go. Just waiting on the official announcement.

So some positive news last night at the NSSC event with Jason Edwards. He has met the new owners who have experience in lots of other motorsport classes, the new team manager and said that he thinks with the team that they have they will be challanging for Silverwear again this season. So all sounds positive for Ipswich.

If Tai gets a further 8% Discount and Jenkins another 25% Discount. It's British Speedway after all where the rules get made up as they go along half of the time so never say never. 1. T. Woffinden 7.77 (10.5% Total Discount from 8.67) 2. R. Tungate 5.89 3. D. King 6.50 4. K. Rew 6.19 5. T. Brennan 7.05 6. J. Jenkins 3.46 7. J. Edwards (RS) = 36.86

I wasn't sure on King at Ipswich due to the Becker rumour as I knew that Ipswich couldn't have Brennan, Becker, King and Rew as well as a No.1 due to the points limit. But after hearing the Becker news, It's a no brainer to go 3. King, 4. Rew and 5. Brennan as it's the strongest possible option when it comes to riders who are reliable scorers around Foxhall. I assume that Northampton will go 2. Kerr, 3. Riss, 4. Wright and 5. Lawson or something along those lines.

2026 Premiership is Go! - At least 5 teams

Strange that Max Fricke will now be at Kings Lynn which is run by someone not known for running his business at a loss. He obviously feels Max will put enough people on the gate to make it viable. -
Assuming the Pre-Christmas rumour was true just like everyone else, I do have worries in regards to Tai's recent injury record but what I will say is this..... Tai isn't like most other riders and he's the most strong minded rider in our Sport imo, No matter how many bones he breaks, No matter how many surgeries he has, He keeps coming back for more when he doesn't even need the Money. Could easily have called it quits after last year but Speedway is in his blood and it's his passion to a point where he simply can't walk away from the Sport. Tai may have some dodgy performances and some hit and miss scores but you'll know that it won't be through a lack of effort. He'll give it 100% every time he takes to the track because if he didn't care then he would've just retired.

But if they didn't run a Premiership then every Speedway rider in the world would retire... Or something like that.... -

It's funny how Leicester were at least breaking even in the championship and are now running at a loss in the promised land premiership. -
What will 2026 UK speedway bring?

I am told the CL fixtures are going through the final adjustments and may be out by the weekend. PL is different as there’s still no confirmation on Ipswich and Northampton. I’m sure the drafts will have been circulated - for 5 and for 6 teams - but can’t be finalised until they know how many to plan for

Reading last weeks Star there was an article involving Leicester Speedway and how they made a loss over the past two years, so this year they have decided not to use Mx Fricke to alleviate some of the financial burden this season. -
In the same boat. Moved down to Bury St Edmunds last year so any speedway I do watch now, is at Ipswich. Not a regular though by any means. Woffinden is a difficult one to judge. He did far better than I thought he would for Sheffield with a near 9 point average. Another horrible accident since then though but Woffinden is not your average rider. Incredibly strong character and mentality as tough as they come. I wouldn’t bet against him coming back and hitting the big scores again.
-
I expect them all to be retiring from Speedway then as, some say, they can't afford to ride in just one league.
-
Becker has already said he will not be available to ride in UK in 2026.

I was sent a team last night that included Woffinden at number 1. That apparently came from a current team manager up the road! We’ll soon find out.

Emil had “engine” issues the season before too. Started the 2024 season really poorly by his standards. An experienced rider like him can’t be using engines as an excuse though. The fact is, whether age, injury, or both, both riders look to have seen their best days and are on the way down. Take your point about being team players though. Both excellent in that regard. But we have to face the reality that things are now going to feel completely different at Ipswich. Recruitment criteria based on team players and integrating in to the “Ipswich way” may well be a thing of the past. Got to let the new people put their own stamp on things now. It’ll be interesting to see what they do going forward and how they go about things. Louis wanted to significantly increase the banking at Foxhall last winter by lowering the inside but that was shelved when they realised it involved uplifting the drains and came at quite an expense. Maybe the new owners will do that next winter to help improve the racing? Who knows. But it’ll be interesting to see what happens.

If Northampton don't happen the might be a few riders without a team, Ipswich can't fit in Brennan, King, Rew, Lawson, Wright, Becker plus an out and out No1, also Tungate and and the Aussie from Belle Vue.
