What about Northampton?
Chris116 replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The meeting on Saturday features BriSCA F1 and F2 Stock Cars plus the V8 HotStox which are followed by supporters who travel the length and breath of the country following them. They are also the type of people who might be interested in Speedway as well as Stock Cars so it would be a very good time to show them what is happening. -
Firstly it wasn’t me who mentioned the podium it was MikeBV talking about his son, I just quoted him and I can remember last year someone making a post about it on FB but it isn’t about the podium it’s about all the unnecessary little things, the podium just happens to be one of them and it’s so unnecessary and cheap to fix ,your later point is valid about them entering the stadium but I’m talking about people who may see it on tv or on YouTube or wherever as their first impression, something I saw a couple of years back on tv was I think the speedway of nations and everytime the camera panned round to the pits there were around 30 people who were standing around talking or drinking tea and it looked like a branch of primark, totally unprofessional and shambolic so I messaged the promotion and FIM and told them and the next day there was nobody standing there in the pits, it’s the little things that matter, I understand the sport hasn’t got a pot to piss in but a lot of little things cost peanuts

I understand the point you are making Dean, and there are hundreds of small (and large) things that all British clubs could do to improve the whole event. That said, picking on the podium at Belle Vue is diluting the value of your point in my view. The podium will be a long way from the first thing people see at Belle Vue, and they might well be impressed by their entrance to the stadium, certainly from the main grandstand side would think that is a more impressive first impression than any other British speedway track. Anyone sitting on that side of the stadium would be very unlikely to see any issues with the front of the podium as the construction of it is not apparent front on. I suspect that in the South stand a newby is more likely to comment on the toilets and catering if anything.

the best kept sporting secret ever . opening night massive crowd of people who support other teams . 3 weeks in and tiny crowd ..they should be marketing it on social media , give the team a name at least theres plenty of Speedway fans internet savvy enough to create a razamatazz , Speedway has far too long relied on its dwindling fanbase to advertise it , and this is a classic exmaple . failing to prepare is preparing to fail !!!

It was colin who was the rubbishbag . Mick took that flack

Yet again you have missed the point, it doesn’t matter what I think of the podium or belle vue or whatever it is,,it’s what potential folk who see speedway maybe for the first time, going forward I’m not the potential market and neither are you,my family is on that wall and I’ve ridden for belle vue and my Mrs and lad have a BV season ticket and I’ve worked tirelessly for 30 years trying to change the sport at different positions and habe had a go at just about every job in my he sport and literally lost £1000s doing it so yes I’m going to have my 10pence worth until the sport finally realises it’s in the wrong path and need to address the little things first like the optics
-
I wasn't trying to suggest there's a problem moving forward, just saying this weekend is off as I know a champ rider was going to practice too. Good luck to Leicester, hope it's a good season for them.

Optics are the very things that form people’s perception, often they don’t even have to be real, they can just a show but when you’re trying to attract new people to the sport optics are often their first trigger leading on to their intrigue, ouch can’t seem to understand this as he is so stuck in his own world of what he does or doesn’t like about speedway

Unfortunately due to the upcoming fuel crisis 😧 I don't think many people will be prepared to travel to Northampton or anywhere else for that matter

Be a great opportunity to start up some bikes and promote the new team to current customers of the stadium. Give out flyers as people enter the stadium. But we all know what is planned by the BSPL. Absolutely nothing. -
The point isn’t being missed at all. You don’t like the podium and I do so it’s just a matter of opinion not right or wrong. If the third step was missing, that’s obviously wrong and not fit for purpose. This podium has been used successfully for a decade at the PCMT and the attendance has remained strong over that period which indicates the podium along with other aspects of the “first impression” have had no negative impact on the customer experience. Seemingly a bitter pill for some to acknowledge as they continue to unfairly nitpick the minutiae of the sport whilst completely letting the big issues sail by. When reading this site it’s little wonder we are where we are with fans & ex riders running the sport. Nice pop at the brick in the wall fundraising that helped when we built the NSS, keep ‘em coming.

According to the article in the Star they have had specialist help with the more difficult areas of damage, as well as the regular track staff and an army of volunteers. The general gist of the article was that everyone is working very hard to make the circuit ready in time for league racing. I'm sure if they could have run the youth training this weekend they would have. I have to say that there have many comments about the extent of the damage caused. There wasn't just "a few bent poles". The starting gate was destroyed and there was mention today of damage to the transponder wiring.

The "optics" are fundamentally important for any business... UK Speedway sadly is ran, in the main, by ex riders, and friends and sponsors of riders... With well meaning amateur Speedway enthusiasts working for free, alongside them, just so as they can be close to their heroes... Professional Event Management, and Professional Marketing, is a huge opportunity, however, as we know, their huge seven figures outlay will be to riders who are practically unknown to 80 million people... An amazing business plan... Which suggest these ex riders, and rider sponsors, are quite happy with their regular "Social Gatherings" where they meet up for a "Night at the Speedway"....

I see there's a Stock Car meeting taking place there on Saturday. Surely some details will be revealed before then so they can take the opportunity to promote it? 🤔 -
Literally, seven figures spent on riders, (who Average Joe Public will never have heard of), yet hardly anything on professional PR, Media output, and Event Management.... Absolutely crackers!!!!
-
I see the youth training day this weekend has been cancelled due to equipment not being repaired on time.
-
I think when it is up and running it will be popular, its location is central and easy access means it will be easy for most people to get to. If they could persuade the powers that be to put on a decent individual meeting to raise the profile it should be successful.
-
It's far from ideal and hopefully the reasons for that will become clear but personally I wouldn't rule out going somewhere a month before the first fixture. The main thing British Speedway does wrong is the lack of information even if there isn't much to tell and rhats happening here unfortunately.
