Totally agree. The fact is that many riders participate in different leagues and if you can see the likes of Dan Bewley riding well in Poland and they see him on ITV 4 and it is mentioned that he also rides in the UK then floating followers may seek out where he is riding. It use to work in days gone by when if you knew where an Olsen or Gollob were riding in the UK then you would turn out to see them. It applied to many other riders and that was the beauty of international meetings and top individual meetings that use to take place in the UK. It is not impossible to recreate a similar scenario to the Daily Mirror World classic Series that took place many years back but it takes vision and sponsorship. Most speedway followers would turn out in serious numbers to watch an international meeting in the UK involving Poland, Australia and the UK particular if the likes of Dudek et al turned up. The trouble is no one can bring together the sponsorship and the T V rights to make it a success. Poland dominates the current era of top class speedway and to show it on UK terrestrial TV might just ignite a new following that the sport so badly needs in this country to raise the profile.

Rider insurance (or lack thereof)
mikebv replied to Dave_minall's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Ben Barker said it was a fiver per race... And Charles Wright said the best quote he got was £1200 a month for personal cover... The "old" insurance got the riders around £900 per month, without any minimum stay in hospital... The main issie appears to be that the cover might be "fine" for "hobby riders" in Speedway and other disciplines, but those who earn their living riding Speedway can significantly be out of pocket with no income... -

Rider insurance (or lack thereof)
IainB replied to Dave_minall's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Question: If in previous years riders were being deducted £0.30 per race was this a flat rate per rider covered under an agreement covering the whole league? If that is no longer the case and riders are responsible for their own insurance will lesser experienced riders be paying a higher premium than more accomplished riders? That's actually 2 questions... 🤔 -

Track was screaming out for water and he decided not to just gave it a little grade. Comets riders looking for the outside to work like it was a couple seasons ago and there’s nothing there. Yeah there was some good races but once the track had gone too dry it was follow the leader. The track has so much potential to be one of, if not the best race track in the country and it’s just not. I know the early start didn’t help, it was sunny and a breeze, but I hope once the 6pm starts roll around it improves. -

Yep if its too wet then absolutely fair enough. Its a general bug bear of mine, especially when Elite League/Premiership meetings were live on national TV and tufts of long grass were poking out all over the bends and near the starting gate! Looks so amateur. -

Does he, or did i read some months ago that another developer (Taylor Wimpey ?) had acquired an option/rights on the stadium, I am sure something like that was posted somewhere, or maybe i was dreaming.

You'd hope that the broadcaster would market it. Afterall they're after advertising revenue via viewing figures. That's all the sports channels do. Some of their content is shall we say ordinary but they push it as if it's the best thing since sliced bread. My niece worked for Warner Bros so was involved in TNT marketing campaigns. They know most of their stuff is filler in between football but they still want to retain the viewers so they hype stuff up. The thing with the Extraliga is you can hype it as the best speedway league in the world with all the best riders and best stadiums and that's what you'll get. Sure it would be better if there was more British riders but the fact that two of the best are is a plus. Have a look at the ITV4 schedule on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There's loads of random bits of live sport in between reruns of Minder and the like. Copa del Ray Final tonight. That demographic is bound to include people who used to like the speedway and didn't realise it's still going. Gotta be better than having zero TV presence at all.

FYI parts of the centre green are still under water, and have been for weeks, so unable to get onto the centre green to cut it, unless you want to come down with a pair if scissors to cut it 😜 -

Very good win and some cracking racing. After 3 heats, I was expecting a battering. Then the track changed quickly, and it caught our riders out but not the Scorpions. Heat 15 was the best heat for me. Jeppesen gated, and rode a very good four laps to hold off pickering. Great bike control by Jeppesen to stay on the bike when he lifted exiting bend 4 on the 2nd, maybe 3rd lap Overall, pleased with the riding, a good, entertaining meeting, with the only downside being the dust. The evening start times will sort that out though. -

I think the promotion will be very happy if thats your only gripe. I personally didn't think the green looked bad. Last year it was patchy and dry in areas, so letting it grow out before mowing is probably a good idea.
