British final 15th August
mikebv replied to Neila's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
The custodians of this sport are truly unwaivering poor at what they do aren't they? I don't know what the opposite of the "Midas Touch" is... But they always seem to have it. -
United do... U16 - £190 (a tenner a match) 16/17 - £275 (under £15 a match) 18/20 - £413 (under £22 a match)... 21 and over pay adult prices, cheapest is £29 a match.. And that has risen with "Glazernomics".. Still good value though fo encourage the younger sections of society to attend...

Schools maybe would have a problem, many parents would *^%# themselves if they thought their kids were being encouraged to take up something as dangerous as speedway. God forbid anyone did, the first time they got injured the headteacher loses their job. However, in several cities the police have projects going on trying to counter youth offending involving motorbikes in urban areas. These are the only group o people who would become safer by being involved in speedway. They probably have the right personality type to enjoy it. Speedway is a way they carry on doing what they like, but legally, more safely, in a context with supportive positive role models, with a potential job at the end of it. And it’s drug-tested, so if they abuse substances they’ll have to stop. This gets you a pipeline both for fans and riders, and improved relations with the council and potentially the neighbours if it reduces crime.

It's working ok for Poole, they are going around schools at the moment.

What about Northampton?
AFCB Wildcat replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I can't help feeling that may be beyond the remit of the BSPL. It would depend hugely on the willingness of the schools to participate, and I'm struggling to see why they would. A football, Hockey, tennis, rugby club etc. maybe, because it may encourage the kids to participate in these sports at school and promote physical education. Speedway though has no relevance other than being a form of entertainment. Why would schools allow someone to come in, just to promote their business to children while they are susceptible to influence? It would be like inviting the local cinema owner in to drum up trade. A stall at a fete is not a bad idea though. -

Will it still be on TNT if that's part of your TV package? -
SGP coverage in UK for 2026
flagrag replied to ozsat58's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Unless there is any last minute changes in the ownership of WBD before the GP season starts . Speedway will continue to be on HBO Max coverage is changing hence Abi no longer required as Marcella is going to be the main tv anchor and will likely be less build up. It remain to be confirmed if ALL GPs will be shown Live some may be reduced down to highlights depending on viewing figures and other schedules -
Northern Junior League 2024
Fortythirtyeight replied to edmon's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Well I see a couple of new names , mainly in 125’s, but disappointing to see riders who have ridden at a higher level ( NDL ) for several seasons still in the NJL. I suppose it shows how few riders are taking up the sport, and despite what the BSPA say every season, the lack of racing opportunities for inexperienced riders, not the ‘junior’ league it once was. -
Are any clubs offering a "young adult" ticket? I heard on the radio the other night that Nottingham Forest FC are reintroducing their young adult ticket, other football clubs seem to do similar scheme offering 25% discount for 18-24 year olds 🤔

What about Northampton?
Old Crusader replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Hi Dean, just a bit of history really. When Brian Foote packed up speedway he opened a motorcycle shop in Canterbury. He displayed his speedway bike with a sign on it . If you can't ride it don't touch it. I don't know how much interest it generated? At my primary school some of the Canterbury Crusaders came to our school fete with their bikes. Again don't know how influential that was. I was already a regular at Kingsmead as my Dad took me on Saturday nights any way and I was 100% hooked aged 9/10. On a personal note I regularly over the years went to Iwade and thank you for your efforts riding for us, didn't realise at the time how far you had to travel. -
Don't know are you buying if it is ? 😄

Too formal, too long, too slow.... It should be 20min max, with the "bantz" between the lads as they arrive and get changed getting covered... The managers team talk and then several 5 second snippets of on track action covering the speed and closeness of the racing, with verbal and physical reactions from fans, Manager and team members as the racing happens.. With a voice over letting the viewer know of the score as the action progresses, and the names of those getting filmed, with the aim being you identify the riders, who, hopefully become recognised.. Throw in the odd 20 second soundbite from the manager, riders and a few fans, (young ones not fogey's).. "We are sh*t tonight", "He needs to sort himself out" etc, etc.. Music playing in the background . Then, post meeting quick sound bites from riders, management and fans... With an advert for the next meeting, with a request to like and subscribe... It isn't about listening to in depth interviews, and the racing snippets are just that, (quick), keeping the whole 15-20 mins short and snappy to meet the attention span of the demographic the sport so desperately needs to attract... There are dozens of examples on YT of how teams have been ultra successful in getting subscribers (and money), from their Vlogs... Speedway, given its lack of awareness from so many thousands of people in every town and city a team runs in, is perfect for such an inexpensive medium...

I understand that Lydd speedway is going to be affiliated to NORA as well. I understand at the moment they are running practices. Are there any news of meetings which will take place as I would like to attend?

Agree but if Northampton flops it could have the opposite effect on those groups trying to bring tracks back, it really needs to succeed to benefit the sport overall.
