Extraleague 2027 news, fixtures etc
LagutaRacingFan replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
There's a lack of quality riders in the league. When I first got into speedway as a 15-year old in 2010s, I remember Gorzow had a top 5 of Gollob, MJJ, Zagar, Kasprazak, Iversen and Zmarzlik at reserve! -

Wild Cards for 2027
LagutaRacingFan replied to LagutaRacingFan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Imagine if somebody said to you in 2010 that Emil Sayfutdinov and Darcy Ward will never win a World Championship. You would have bet your life on that not happening. We lost Darcy due to a tragic accident. And Emil missed a few years as he was part of the SEC and he was being paid a lot of money, and now he is a victim of politics. In another world, Emil and Ward would have multiple world titles. -

I would say so. But if you go back 10 years before and so on. -

@racers and royals - Do you think the quality of the Polish Ekstraliga has declined since 2011? Top 10 riders by average 2011: Hampel, Hancock, Gollob, Jonsson, Pepe, Crump, Sullivan, Laguta (Grigory), Sayfutdinov and Nicki Pedersen 2026: Zmarzlik, Holder (Jack), Thomsen, Laguta (Artem), Sayfutdinov, Lambert, Jepsen Jensen, Kurtz, Bewley, Dudek I miss the good old days. Or am I just getting old and is this nostalgia? -

Are Wroclaw really going to run it back with Janowski? He is a waste of time. They need to find a younger rider. -

It was a drift car, I think that's what they're called, custom built, he's taking it to Australia he said. -
I don't disagree re the pay but at what cost to Redcar? I'm on the fence whether the Bears should sign him next season.

Glasgow Tigers 2026
TheWellBehavedWorrall replied to SilentLurker's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Gutted for Hodder. I rate him. Not every U21 rider is a Will Cairns or a Cooper Rushen, but he’s steadily improved, year-on-year. That’s all you can ask. He doesn’t settle either. KJP gates second, he’s finishing second. He’s content to play follow-the-leader. Not Hodder. His progress and development in riding Ashfield has been huge this season. He’s so comfortable riding that outside line, near the fence. Wishing him a speedy recovery. -

What’s the script for team building, like who actually puts the team together; the manager or the owners? I’d be interested in knowing how riders are approached too, given there are no agents. Do clubs have dedicated “recruiters” who approach riders? First thing I’d be doing for 2027 is finding a new DJ. -

If that’s the case, we need to throw a Neymar-like deal at him. And by that, I mean we do what Barca did and send a lap dancer to his dad’s house at least one every week. @phillwhitewasmad Don’t worry, we’ve got you. -

Wild Cards for 2027

Can't say I'm thrilled at all on this pick.....definitely "washed up" now for lack of a better definition. All I can assume is Poland dug their spurs in someone and made it a Pole. -
Your head would be turned if offered an Extraleague Position late in your career (provided he gets paid). If sitting in the pits pays more than 5rides a meeting in GB good luck to him. Charles is a 100% rider and wish him well whatever comes up.

King's Lynn Stars 2027
YeOldPitGate replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Pretty much spot on the sickener was 1988 when we were probably favourites for the league with a power house team, I remember the opening meeting the place was rammed but roughly a third of the way into the season the usual Lynn jinx hit and we were bang average. Bo Peterson who cost a fortune went from unbeatable around Lynn to very beatable and dear old John Davis was better suited to longtrack he could gate with the best but would leave a gap on the inside you could sail the titanic through. King showed why he was so highly rated but a series of niggling injuries held him back after early promise. -
King's Lynn Stars 2027
MajorMauger replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Unfortunately these days King's Lynn's Saddlebow Road Stadium is more a car track than a speedway track. Indeed without stock cars its highly unlikely speedway would continue on its own. The basic economics above mean that Buster will naturally prioritise the cars and hes kind of let the bikes "tread water, go through the motions" but due to his first sporting love being speedway he has always ensured the sports kept going there apart from the 1996 and covid seasons. King's Lynn had a lot of criticism about this years team but they signed Fricke the Leagues top rider and Cooper Rushen one of the best youngsters on the planet. As for the mid to late 1980's struggles, Martin Rogers took over the promotion from the stadium owners in 1983 when the Cranes and Littlechilds had got to a point of not wanting to subsidise the Stars any longer so cut their losses by making money from leasing it out to Rogers. The Rogers era was run on a tight budget that became a shoestring budget after a crippling 1985 season which meant that the 86 and 87 seasons were just about surviving which was a success in itself despite two woeful bottom finishes with weak teams. The 1984 team came 6th in the BL and was cheaper than the poor team that came bottom the following year. Rogers considered dropping into the NL around 86/87 but was shot down by fans who insisted they wanted top flight or nothing at all. 17 years later in 2003 Lynn finally dropped down and it was a breath of fresh air which gave the place fresh energy and atmosphere. King's Lynn are long overdue a decent season seriously challenging which would help to increase enthusiasm levels but there will come a time in the next decade when someone will need to take over the reins from Buster Chapman who like him or loath him has done more than anyone to keep KL speedway going in the last 40 years so has earnt his retirement. -
Signing Jody Scott should be the priority. Would also keep Pijper. Wright would normally be a shoe in but I'm not sure now his heads been turned by Poland. How many meetings will he miss when he prioritises Poland over Redcar? Would chase the rest. The management also seem a bit too friendly with some riders. They need to be a bit tougher with the underperforming riders.
