It’s a nothing meeting now. There was a time when it was the route to the World Championship Final. Nowadays it’s a BSPA 3d ( that’s 1 1/2 p) a point meeting.

No surprise at the lack of interest from riders.

I never understood why many regarded the British final mainly just as a qualifying round of the World championship. It is first and foremost the final of the British Championship, in itself a worthy title to aim for.

I have to agree to some degree, our National championship has lost a lot of it's prestige. Gone are the days when it was a stepping stone to the world finals via the overseas & inter-continental rounds, Todays champion only receives a wildcard entry for the British GP where like most wildcards they are only there to fly the federation banner & make the numbers up without troubling the score board to often.

Pity he didn't have a spot, since he could have stepped down to let Tai have a go.

I thin’ he’s not interested if it’s at Belle Vue. Sounded that way on Eurosport this week. Reckon he could be tempted somewhere else.

Don't forget he hasn't been contracted to ride in the Premiership this year either (other than a few guest appearances).  Shame though as he's having a great season.

It’s not the Premiership Riders Championship, though!

Perhaps it should renamed the Commonwealth Final and you could have Doyle and few other decent riders in the line up and likewise the Australian Championships could invite a few Brits. Hold it at a weekend when the Poles are not racing and you might get an improved attendance. As it is only track locals locals a few waifs and strays from other tracks will make it on a weekday night. Devalue the product by attendance and race day and you have the best they can come up with. Says all about those in charge.

Does it need to be renamed ?

Many national championships have foreign riders in them, including the Australian championship, i seem to recall

Maybe not but I would rather watch Doyle and others compared to Schlein, Ellis and Few others and if that is what it takes to qualify them to compete then so be it. The current line up hardly inspires you to watch lay alone attend.
