chunky 6,125 Posted October 25, 2023 As long-time speedway journalist John used to be a regular on the 'Years Gone By' thread, I thought it best to make a quick post on here. John sadly passed away on October 14 at the age of 91. There is a thread on 'General Discussions', so I don't know if it would be possible to combine the two on here. 1

mikebv 10,355 Posted October 25, 2023 Maybe should have typed this in bold... A true font of knowledge and someone who truly lived through the halcyon days of the sport and covered it too... Always good value on here to get a debate going, and often, stirred up..! RIP John...

BL65 658 Posted October 28, 2023 John asked for information about the speedway rider Jack Keen on more than one occasion, after he had already used the name as a forum alias. The only connection I noted was that John first saw speedway at New Cross in 1946 and Jack took part in a few second half events there at that time. Jack had previously ridden for Oxford in 1939. I never discovered why John chose to adopt that particular alias.
iris123 21,070 Posted October 28, 2023 Wasn't Old Don and Kenny Lane also aliases ?

The Speedy Star used to have a column penned by Angus Kix, who was actually Eric Linden. Is it some reference to this?
