There's a Special Offer for this one.. You get to travel for over 400 miles to get there and back from Ipswich Spending lots on fuel and lots of hours on the road.. And then get an opportunity to pay full price upon entry.. "ROLL UP! ROLL UP! FORM AN ORDERLY QUEUE PLEASE"! Maybe offering away fans a discount would be worthwhile, even if not the home fans? Could have flogged £10 tickets at all the Ippo home matches this season, or from when it was announced.. (ex BV meeting in case any Aces fans in attendance that night take up the offer)... In fact Speedway should do a reduced ticket for all away fans, sold from their own circuit.. Maybe more would go? And the current 'morgue like' atmosphere at tracks would improve..5 points

Am I the only person who remembers when we had the majority of top riders in the British League and people were saying "why should BSI be allowed to basically hijack Saturday nights... if it wasn't for league racing there would be no riders to race in the GP, and yet they steal the riders away in precedence to the leagues"...? now people are saying the Polish league should be told they are not allowed to run on the Friday as well as the Saturday...?4 points

I wouldn't say easy, they have a few riders that have had good meetings around our place. One thing is for sure though,i can actually make this one.2nd home match this season, but is only June though2 points

What you say about the lifespan of both is probably on the money. The age of these stadia 1937 Reds; 1950 Town without adequate maintenance means replacement is long overdue so replacement is probably the right option at this time but they need to make provision for speedway somewhere regardless of whether or not the previous promotion have the necessary finance. Its only right in my eyes that they make it attractive for any potentially interested parties who have the vision and determination to bring the Comets back.2 points

Hopefully having Cook in the team will generate friendly rivalry with Ruthless for the no 1 spot and see him start to show his 2018 league form which has been hit and miss thus far2 points

Just shows the folly of all of this? Allerdale spending hundreds of thousands in taxpayers cash to reseed DP in order to bring it up to standard for both football and rugby, exactly the same job will be done on the new stadium, if and when it gets the go ahead, millions to be spent on the project in general which begs the question... if Allerdale had just spent a "few" million bringing "both" existing grounds up to an acceptable standard then the speedway track could easily have been retained and kept for future re use when required, instead, they chose to build one new stadium for two crap outfits and condemn the most successful sport we had into the realms of obscurity? I was told that, during the recent local election canvassing, that both grounds had a finite lifespan (within 5yrs) in their present condition which would have seen the H&S executive declare both to be unfit for public use therefore the new stadium was essential for the survival of both Reds and Town, I asked about the Comets and why they were not included in this and he replied, with a cheap smile on his face that, DP was there for them to use but she (Laura) had no money to invest so....goodnight Vienna? Cant see anyone crazy enough now to try and bring speedway back in the context of having to find a completely new home/track/team/support services/access etc for possibly a couple of seasons depending on the level of support as it's just not now looking a viable proposition, with DP still on the cards then yes, a chance but, in my opinion, not even a slim one especially on viewing those pix of the current state of affairs? Happy memories from the Comets, we just wont be making any more of those!!2 points

i think in the short term nothing, longer term i don't know. If financial problems hadn't precluded Comets running in 2019 then in the absence of any other current option it would have been their home certainly for the next 2 years and probably longer. Bearing this in mind then, the extent of damage that has subsequently been done to the track is way different to what would have happened if Comets had been running in 2019. The question is then, what has/ or is going on for Town to change the scope of work to the extent where they have probably precluded speedway ever being run there again ???. Town are the ones with least to lose here because even if the Community Stadium doesn't happen then they have got a brand new pitch costing circa £100K and got rid of Speedway . On the face of it that is very poor form indeed and unless there is another plan (i'm dreaming on THJ) then its nothing short of dispicable by all parties concerned.2 points

While you continue to have a good deal of talent coming through the ranks from a wide range of European nations who can travel to the likes of Poland with relative ease, the Polish authorities will not give a fig what the rest of the speedway world thinks. Britain has no chance of ever getting back the status it once had as the place for riders to hone their skills in one of the best league sets ups that use to exist. That may have happened by default and largely due to the relative ease of access that riders had to the U.K. compared to Eastern Bloc countries many many years back. The FIM don’t seem to be the controlling force they once were and all in all the sport has become fragmented with different factions seeking to take care of ‘number one’ As for the U.K. they should start to plough their own furrow. Afterall Poland says it is their way or no way so why not bite the bullet in the U.K. and start from scratch. Build leagues with what you can afford with riders who will commit to ride here and also improve the ‘employment terms’ so that riders are not dumped at the drop of a hat. Build some loyalty to the team and work with them rather than treat them as commodities and most of all the clubs in the U.K. should unite to promote the sport as a whole and not occasionally at local level. When it gets to a position of strength it might then be able to stick two fingers up at the Poles and the FIM. Until then it remains a lap dog.2 points

Lambert had as much speed as anyone else when in front and looked no worse than anyone other than the winner when behind. Not sure why you are singling him out. Changing lines for most last night resulted in losing ground, and don’t forget he was out after every track grade and watering. Two semis out of two is pretty decent going for him, all he lacks really is the experience and a bit of nous at times round the first two bends. For me parts of the GP series are a bit tired and need freshening up, Krsko and Prague are of little interest due to the racing and there are too many riders knocking around who have been in and out for years but will never win it ie Lindback, Iversen, Kolodziej, Zagar, Sayfutdinov etc and it’s all a bit samey.2 points

So effectively a one off shoot out on Monday evening with either side winning the crown. Ironically last time IOW won a trophy Chris Hunt and Kevin Sheppard were joint managers but this time they will be involved for opposite sides. The warriors actually need to win by 7 points or more which makes thier task that bit tougher. With Morley and Wood both Central park experts at the spearhead they could both go unbeaten. Dsnno Verge has come on massively over the winter and is a true heat leader now. Lots will depend on how Ryan Terry daily and Chris widman go, both have had excellent races and both had nightmares. Connor King secured his first ever national league race win for IOW at central park last season but if memory serves also had at least spectacular off afterward, and young Chad seems to score well at most tracks especially if he gates. Kent continue to operate RR for injury victim Alex Spooner and with Jordan Jenkins on exam duty Richard Andrews comes in as a most popular guest, and his 5 rides (inc rr ride) will be most critical to the Kings fortunes. Drew Kemp is a out and out no1 and you can tell every dropped point really annoys him, not always out of the gate first and with the track being slick in recent weeks that has made passing that bit harder. Andrews as mentioned is a popular guest and his swashbuckling style especially around central park meant he was on many fans winter wish lists. As long as he and skipper Rob Ledwith stay upright the Kent engine room should be enough to see the kings home. Rob by his own admission started the season on gas mark 9 and spent a fair bit of time picking himself out the fence, especially at Plymouth. But he has now wound that in to gas mark 7 and is now with the rr ride consistently getting paid double figures and his influence will be key. Rocket Rowe is making Kent a bit of fortress whilst slipping somewhat under the radar. He has added outside passing, and more first bend aggression to his arsenal. And is consistently posting ever faster race times. Jacob Clouting has stepped in the last few weeks and has really delivered the goods, had a confidence boosting heat 2 win last week and looks to have a decent future in the sport, with a very attractive style. And nitro Natham Ablitt has bitten the dust so many times this year but jumps up and scores points in the ReRun each time, a young man with a massive future. Action gets underway with parade at 6.15pm and tapes up 6.30pm. What ever the result the trophy will be presented Monday night, so hopefully a bumper crowd will be in attendance. For what it is worth i predict a topsy turvy evening with Kent winning on the night by a narrow margin.1 point

Nope, a complete misconception about engines, higher speed on track is down to a combination of rider control and bike setup, rarely the engine itself.1 point
-
He is. don't blame the Danes. Everything was signed and sealed. The Danish Motor Union, (equivalent to our BSPA), or whatever they are called, were happy to agree that Jacob could give up his European Grasstrack/ Longtrack commitments to give Newcastle priority. However he was down to ride in a round in Germany today, which he was going to withdraw from, but the Germany Federation said he was contracted to ride and had to turn up otherwise they would appeal to ACU and get him banned from all European (including GB) speedway, grasstrack etc. so he was left with no choice really. Still it will be the only one he will miss as it was only the lateness of his proposed withdrawal that caused the problem.1 point

Surely part of the problem here is clubs in the elite league in the past with the sky money just throwing the money towards the top guys and once the money has ran out most of the top boys are on there way because they no longer want to ride for peanuts and in half empty run down stadiums. Surely the promoters must've seen the crowds diminishing year on year and should of cut there cloth accordingly instead of continuing to give the top guys all the money. They must have realized they can't pay top wages if you can't afford it. Ideally you need a pay limit introduced which everyone would stick too but that's easier said than done. Then you wouldn't get riders holding clubs to ransom they would have no choice but to take the deal on the table.1 point

If you normally buy a programme the season ticket deal at Belle Vue saves you over £40 plus a small saving on the entrance fee. I worked it out when I bought my season ticket but have forgotten now just exactly what the savings were. If I remember correctly, it equates to being able to miss about 3 meetings without being out of pocket. Plus, you get an organised visit to the pits and an opportunity to watch racing from the centre green. I can't see that saving £6/£8 on the entrance fee is going to influence many additional fans to travel to away meetings. The biggest financial factor for those considering whether to go is the total cost including the travel cost and the saving on the entrance fee may only represent a fraction of that total cost. However, it may entice a few extra to go and therefore, any loss in revenue to the home club wood be minimal, so it it's worth a try. Belle Vue have tried reduced admission in the past and it resulted in a greater financial loss. However, the debate shouldn't end there. There is the argument that a tv audience, seeing a big crowd, are more likely to think that this might be a sport worth going to see live. I would like to believe that to be true but unfortunately, I have seen no evidence of that at theNSS. We had packed stadiums at the World Team Cup Final and at the SON meetings but I saw no increase in numbers attending subsequent meetings at Belle Vue. Fans come out in greater numbers at bank holidays and during the summer holidays when the schools have finished. I think that might just be telling us that, teams that can, should be running at times when families can attend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It would not only increase crowd numbers but provide the opportunity to attract the younger fans we so desperately need. One big league using only riders who will commit to racing in the UK.1 point

Just to pick up on a couple of points. As has been said I dont work for Birmingham. I am a volunteer. Its wrong to say that I never criticise Birmingham riders. I have done so previously on my radio program and have even this year mentioned concern for Ulrich and some other riders. However I always think very hard before critisising riders and it is never my default position. I have heard people say that as long as a rider is very obviously trying hard then as a supporter we cant ask for anything more. I think its been obvious that Ulrich and Zach have been trying. However its also been obvious that Zach isnt himself and i am glad he has made a decision to think of his own state of mind first. Its going to be interesting now to see how the management reacts to this latest development. Something I think I should add about criticism. Laurence Rogers has come in for (IMO) some very harsh criticism based on percieved past performance as far as i can see. I spoke to several Birmingham riders last year and to a man they where nothing but complimentary about Mr Rogers. One rider in particular was angry about some of the things that had been said on the various social media platforms. Who was that rider? Well I'm not saying as it was said in confidence. I will say that it is a very respected rider.1 point

Sorry to read about Zach but probably the right thing to do given his scores at CL and PL levels so far this season. Hope he comes back stronger. Who to replace him though? Please not Kyle Newman.1 point

The capacity has nothing to do with stopping it holding a GP. Slovenia, Germany, Prague, Swedish tracks etc can’t hold 20-25000, most are around 10,000 same as Belle Vue. It’s never going to replace Cardiff. its all about money, they worried about reducing the attendance at Cardiff and also the huge money Manchester City council would have to pay which the like of Krsko, Teterow etc seem to be willing.1 point

If Kent were at full strength it would be a near certainty. But with the missing riders and IOW strong top three there are a few doubts. Can see a close meeting (maybe a draw) and Kent lifting their first ever team Trophy after six years of trying. Looking forward to some close Speedway and incident free night.1 point

Thats exactly beerhuts point There should be a collective agreement. It could persuade more to buy a season ticket (as currently they are generally poor value - miss more than 1 for a holiday and you are out of pocket) It would then also encourage more to travel - often its not just the few quid but more the gesture of goodwill that as important Same with discounted TV matches - it should be the norm1 point

LET'S not forget that in years gone by many riders skipped practice. I have had several private conversations with Armando Castagna regarding Poland staging TV meetings on a Friday and he is strongly opposed to it. But the FIM, like most big corporations (which is what these international sporting governing bodies are these days) are frightened of lengthy, expensive legal disputes and there are lawyers in Geneva who are wary that trying to block these Polish meetings could come back to haunt them. BSI along with the FIM have introduced transponders and time trials in an attempt to make practice more attractive and meaningful for the public and riders. Personally, I don't find any entertainment in watching a single rider do four laps against the clock. And does it actually make any difference on race night? Zagar was fastest in Warsaw and came last in his opening heat and had a poor night. Lagutra was fastest in Krsko and did not win a race. Speedway isn't about the fastest, it is who gets to the chequered flag first.1 point

Not far off cheaper to get a BT subscription and watch all the other matches for the same cost! Another illustration of how the true meaning of "promoter " has been lost in the mists of time. As for the term marketing - well!1 point

I posted this on another thread but thought it was fitting for it to be here as well. I think Polish speedway authorites are spoiling speedway. There should be no top class speedway the night before a world GP anywhere. Riders deserve to be able to put in the max effort to win the world championship, the pinnacle of any sport.1 point

If we were full strength last night we would have won easily. We picked up a paltry 10 points from Brady and Klindt rides. Our 1-7 is fine if they are all there. Both Brady and Jack have shown stride forward this year. Bar a couple of riders they are as good as any other heat leader in the league. And Josh has shown fine form in recent meetings. Nothing to worry about and we will make the playoffs. From there it’s anyone’s chance to win it. Last season I thought we were weaker than this year and look what happened. We will be there when it matters.1 point

I'm a little puzzled by the timing of this. If you'd asked me a year ago, I'd have said that the logic underpinning the BSPA's actions over the previous decade had been to reduce the gap between the 2 leagues so as to make one big league possible, but last winter the decisions taken seemed more likely to widen the gap, making a big league less likely. I know I used logic and BSPA in the same sentence there..... To make it viable, you'd need 18 teams at least in a big league, so 34 league meetings, 2 (minimum) in cups and some meaningful regional competitions. Individual meetings become more attractive because you're not seeing the same old riders every week. I'd always thought Matt Ford was a convinced top league man, so maybe there's a significant shift in attitudes developing.1 point
