Well its only my opinion having spent much of my working life in local events, hospitality and leisure industries. Even now retired, regular Friday/Saturday meetings would rule me out due to other obligations. To get families to bring their kids along to anything on a regular basis in this day and age would be remarkable for any popular event/activity let alone speedway. For holidaymakers it is well known that Fri/Sat is 'changeover day' for hotels/guest houses, campsites etc. A midweek fixture is traditionally much easier for holiday makers to plan into their week's stay!

Well Brum offered Berwick to change the dates like Edinburgh and Newcastle did but Berwick declined so what could Brum do apart from choose guests which they were entitled to do

The figures given for attendances at football matches have nothing to do with how many people are in the stadium.. Many times teams like Arsenal have quoted figures as a full house yet you can see it is not three-quarters full as many clubs include season ticket holders whether they go to the match or not.

How do you police it though? Put a lot of trust on those who only want to watch the first match and hope they leave?

Certainly seems to have worked for Leicester if the attendances quoted on their thread are accurate.. ie drop down, stop paying out for GP riders and stop having to ride mid week to accommodate them. Net result? Larger crowds at weekends watching (due to the amount of DU's), a great many of exactly the same riders they would have seen riding anyway if they had stayed at the 'top level'..

Saturday night at Wimborne Road would be great. Certainly attract away fans and neutrals.

What is the point of all the moaning? Embrace what we have to work with. The only other option was to shut for this year and probably for good.

The sooner he is packed off back down under for good the better if this is what he's doing, no consideration for the paying public regardless of whether or not the club are content for him to do it. I've never liked his attitude to speedway anyway, too many times he's moaned about track conditions when others have just gone out and raced, good riddance to him when he's gone. I'd much rather watch the likes of Tom Brennan giving it their all than some lazy Aussie who doesn't give a toss.

to be fair mask wearing outside is pointless and not required by law. It seems local councils have been given powers to make their own rules up which is never a good idea as most of them are totally clueless and that comes from dealing with my local council lol

Unless there is a last minute change of plans the Swedish Eliteserien league gets underway in the first week of June- all matches are live on C More in Sweden and 1 or 2 matches a week on Premier Sports. With quite a few teams already race on a saturday there could be quite few blanks in the home fixture list .plus the fact two posters have said stadia uk dont want us there anyway I'm sure stadia uk got idea's of there own especially at weekends .

Atleast in my book a quite interesting/fun piece of news. In 2022 the Individual Swedish Championship final will be part of what in Sweden is known as "SM-Veckan" i Linköping. Basically SM-veckan is a arrangement during which several (generally) smaller sports have their Nation Championship during a week in a specific city, all broadcasted on Swedish Public Service. https://www.svt.se/sport/sm-veckan/speedway-tar-plats-i-sm-veckan-2022

I've seen before that with double headers, if you only want to see the first meeting, you pay for the two then get refunded for the second one on the way out. If you only want to see the second meeting you have to keep turnstiles open until the second meeting starts. Is that possible when you are dealing with an all ticket meeting? As always, there will be a reason why things are done a certain way. Also, on the subject of streaming the meeting, how many fans would choose the streaming option over attending if the weather wasn't great? Maybe the club would lose out that way? One possible way to solve that would be what Edinburgh did and put a block on the meeting being available to TD14 / TD15 postcodes and only available to other parts of the country.

Are both matches being live streamed this evening? Berwick are missing a wind fall if not as lots of speedway starved fanatics out here hoping it is.

It isn't a case of not interacting with fans on social media simply requesting that questions for the club are directed through club@berwickspeedway.com where they will be always be answered promptly rather than left hanging in random threads across the internet where they may not if no-one from the club happens to stumble across them.

The call off of the meeting was to do with it raining all day nothing to do with reduce capacity. There’s no way the meeting could have gone ahead even if it was full capacity. As I’m aware the weather across the whole of the country has been wetter than the average May climate so I’d expect more to be cancelled due to the rain. Anybody speculating why the meeting was called off obviously live nowhere near the track.

The only way he will cross the border now is a transfer to HMP Barlinnie.

I wouldn't know on your first point, but I do find it bizarre that Berwick Speedway wont or don't interact with their fans on social media.

Had a good long chat with a person of note last night. He explained in detail the reasoning of why tickets need to be sold in batches of 6. And it was really out of his hands. As you can all guess, the landlord did not want the stadium re-opened. They only have 2 staff and making a mint out of the car park. 500 cars at £7 a day. Matt Ford now HAS TO employ 21 covid security staff, all qualified in covid security, and costing Poole Speedway £2100 a meeting. He can’t use the regular stewards if they have not attended the relevant covid security courses. So £100 a pop and there has to be 21. The club have not been allowed any access into the stadium since the first lockdown. They can now finally get in and start to tidy up, get the place marked out, and get the riders without track time the opportunity to get some desperately needed practice. Hopefully today a behind closed doors session. Now to the ticketing. The council said 900 fans could attend. Matt said that would mean a loss. So it’s been upped to 1200, with just 400 allowed in the glass grandstand, 500 in the main and the rest on the bends. If Matt sold a single ticket, that would rule out 5 fans, as the 1 fan would sit in an area for 6 and no others would be allowed to sit there. It would reduce attendance to about 500 and a big financial loss. The meeting will be streamed live. Unsure what the fee will be to watch, probably the same as Glasgow. The club are definitely looking into streaming meetings live. It will come down to cost. I think I heard the overall cost of £2000 for this meeting to be streamed. Think the price would be considerably less per meeting for the club going forward. The reason the Berwick meeting is not being delayed until after 21st June is two fold. The fans want to see racing, and secondly, as a team, to ride several away meetings with no home meetings could mean the team start with several defeats which doesn’t give the riders confidence. Wins breed confidence. There was plenty more which is currently best left alone at the moment, but the main thing is Poole Speedway will be up and running on 9th June and we can thank Matt Ford for some seriously determined words and for the council to finally get off their arse and back him. Now after thinking about the 6 ticket situation, I would say this as my thoughts. Call/Facebook/Twitter/email/message/Instagram/Telegram/WhatsApp your friends who you meet at the stadium, and get one to buy 6 tickets. The have the others PayPal or transfer their ticket money to you. Or meet the at the stadium car park and pay you for the ticket. It’s the only way to guarantee access to the meeting. Is this breaking the rules? I guess so. But most of us have had our second jab, we are outside, and we are wearing masks. The security are not going to ask if we are two families or one. If they do, you are all brothers or sisters. If you are unhappy about this paragraph, that’s fine and understandable. You can pay and watch the meeting on a live stream. But I just don’t see any other way of gaining access to the stadium other than what I have just written.

Sadly once the stock car catch fence went up there be came a bigger barrier between riders and fans watching through a bird cage ruined it for many at Kings Lynn and the kids that used to get a high 5 s after each successful race from the riders that all stopped - I no stock cars pay the bills at Kings Lynn but for many speedway fans it’s ruined the spectacle the catch fence the clay/soil based track rather than red shale that produced racing passing rather than gate and go - yes the stadium looks better but at what cost ?

It is barmy isnt it? A sport whose leagues run with so little credibility and kudos, actually plan in to make it even less credible and give it even less kudos in winning.. And if anyone says "shortened season due to covid" then why run junior teams if fitting in first team meetings would be an issue this season.. Or.. Plenty of double headers with the junior team could have been replaced with two teams from their own league visiting.. What you often get when these meetings are planned in is "Team A" wanting the match on due to a 'weaker' "Team B", and "Team B" agreeing to it because they have lined up a track specialist ringer which actually can improve their chances. "Please take us seriously"...

Imagine living in a time when billions of people actually believed that wearing a piece of cloth over their face would protect them from inhaling a virus which is orders of magnitude smaller than the pores in the cloth...

Cricket has plenty of stats thrown at the viewer so maybe Speedway could do overall rider averages, home and away averages, their averages at individual tracks, % of race wins to races competed in etc etc. It could add another dimension to the viewer watching.. And provide discussion points in the breaks between races.. Poland now show how far and how fast the riders have rode and their reaction times... Anything that pricks interest has to be considered I would say..

I think Nige and Kelvin do a really good job. They're enthusiastic and entertaining and if they were replaced by someone else you'd really then appreciate how good they actually are. Just my opinion.

Watching Speedway without 'Hinge and Bracket' just wouldn't be the same... Great to have them and the Speedway back... Excellent meeting as a starter for Eurosport, let's hope Monmore Green can deliver a similar standard of racing next week... Very good overall presentation from Eurosport too, with quite a few various camera angles... Took a while to get the levels of commentary right given the noise of the bikes when passing the commentary position, (never thought I would think that with Nigel and Kelvin)!! Maybe get Abi and Scott off the centre green sat in front of some sponsors boards? Like they do in Poland.. Three hours of coverage for some company wanting it? The only sponsor boards were behind Steve Brandon who was on screen much less than Abi and Scott... Lots to be optimistic about regarding the Eurosport coverage of the sport I would say.. And with only six teams the NSS should be shown quite a few times which is never a bad thing to promote the sport..

Personally I think that online sales and booking in advance will slowly kill off many attractions if not addressed when things get back to some sort of normality. I know it's off topic but I won't be renewing my English Heritage membership until I'm able to visit when it suits me and on a whim and not to have to book a time slot and/or date in advance.
