Bomber wants to ride his bike and his prepared to in all conditions and all tracks, maybe just maybe that's why dad's army are doing so well this year. Old school riders Let's not forget Harris was a guest willing to put on a show elsewhere12 points

It is somewhat emblematic of speedway's state that its most prominent owner announces his decision to sell, not after poring over a business plan, but in an emotional outburst worthy of a six year old.10 points

We had a similar situation at Ipswich when all the riders apart from the two captains wanted to give it a go. It will come as no surprise those two riders were schlien and cook. Usual suspects. While I accept rider safety is paramount and quite rightly, I get very annoyed when the riders don’t at least try the surface before condemning it. there is no consideration at all for the paying customer on the riders part and if anyone can sort a wet track out it’s Buster as I’ve witnessed many times before.8 points

Too many riders think they are superstars nowadays. Speedway thrived when it was a paid hobby for riders who also worked outside speedway. They slung a bike on the back of a car, put a pair of overalls in the boot and just rode for the fun of it. There isn't the money or the fan base in the sport for riders to carry on as they are, making financial demands and not giving a toss about the paying customer ( with the odd exception). If riders aren’t prepared to at least consider fans and give it a go on a wet track maybe they should seek other employment.7 points

Slightly ironic that Buster is now fed up & wants to sell up, when much that is wrong was implemented during his time as chairman.7 points

Good to see a rider actually considering the fans, Kerr didn't need to reply to Harris but clearly a bit touchy and no need to be so p***y towards him...'have a day off'? 'classic'? Obnoxious.6 points

Indeed, the problem I have with this whole debacle is how long people were standing around for, usual speedway cock up and failure to consider its customers. If nobody fancied it they should have knocked it on the head straight away. Inexperienced Different riders will have different opinions, that's life. The best idea I've read on this thread is for Bomber and a willing Lynn rider to do some laps to try it out, seems a no brainer.6 points

If he thinks too much about the risks he is taking,it's time he got out of speedway. Nice to hear Bomber thinking about the fans, wish some others would follow his lead.5 points

Rubbish, that man has done more than his fair share for British Speedway. Half the problem is 'fans' tearing British Speedway apart and the people who put blood, sweat, tears and their own money into entertaining you week in week out being criticised and ridiculed at every turn. If you actually knew what went into running a speedway club and getting a meeting on and everything that goes with it, you wouldn't be so quick to pull people like Buster over the coals. Coupled with some riders with have complete contempt for the paying public. buster has been doing tracks long enough to know when a track is safe or not, Harris was happy to ride and I'm quite sure a lot of the others were, but there is always a few isn't there. If those riders really didn't think Buster could get the track round, they should have said and called the meeting off then, but no, they leave the paying public standing around, they get Buster to break his back to provide a good racing surface and then they say no. Disgraceful.4 points

We will invade Berwick and claim it back for the Independence Super League. It will then become the biggest league in GB speedway the way things are going4 points

So ….. Experienced, class rider who can ride his motorcycle in all conditions vs inexperienced Johnny come lately “made up to captain” who can get round on a perfect track.4 points

Kerr and Bomber had a mini Twitter spat, Bomber: Disappointed the meeting was called off, I was ready to race, unfortunately not my decision. Buster done a lot of work on track after the rain, but sadly wasn’t meant to be Kerr: Have a day off bomber. The track was saturated Bomber: Rock hard underneath mate, we could of all done some practice laps to try track as the fans waited so long in rain Kerr: Classic Bomber: See you later at scunthorpe mate You'd think Kerr would be grateful of an opportunity to ride with the state in which his "other" club is in.4 points

Very, very harsh.... I think you will find the sole reasons for the issues facing the sport are simply down a 'perfect storm of a year'... Kicking it in the guts after years (decades), of fantastic, innovative leadership... Nothing more and nothing less than that.. It has faced Covid, and The Euros, and The Olympics... Errrrrrrrrrrrrr... Oh Yes.. And The Boat Race, and The Darts, and The Grand National (probably) and dont forget Wimbledon, you cant forget Wimbledon... Was the Boat Race March? I don't know, maybe it was, when did the Speedway start? Anyway, where was I? And all on the telly them don't forget, that'll keep tens of thousands of people in who would usually be at their local Speedway tracks, forming an orderly queue to watch a family sport, and bringing a friend like they advertise.. Oh. And the Test matches, I forgot about the Test Matches... Didnt stand a chance against that lot, no matter how brilliantly the sport is currently being ran... Normal service to be resumed next year guaranteed.. You mark my words.... Next year i believe the sport has agreed a deal with Eurosport where they will show loads of matches, beaming them live into living rooms the length and breadth of the country.. Hang on.Who just said that that was this year? When does it start?... Can't wait.. Hope they bring the green helmet colour back... The fans loved that, loads used to go just because of it... Their TV remote controls at home had exactly the same colours too.. Amazing.. Oh Yes. Just remembered ... And it's all the Speedway GP's fault too.. As well as Poland's...4 points

No one with half a brain would invest in a speedway track run under the current structure. Sadly a few owners have dragged the sport down to a point where the only survival route is probably amateur riders racing on open licensed tracks and a maybe a mini league. The BSPL had the opportunity to do something different this year but decided on a tried and failed product formula. If the stories are true and you have the futures of Swindon, Birmingham, Newcastle, Eastbourne, Peterborough, Kings Lynn, Poole (track ownership) and possibly one or two more in doubt then sadly speedway in the U.K. will be a shadow of its former self and possibly resemble France in terms of league racing and Belgium/Netherlands in terms of individual events. The fans and supporters are not to blame, many turn out each week but are pissed on from a great height by club owners and the governing body is solely responsible for systematic failures including squandering t v revenues and pricing the sport beyond those who would have given it a go as well as looking down its own nose on those from grass track etc who may have given it a go. None of those in charge have the balls to come on this forum and be answerable to the supporters. Gentlemen and Ny Ladies, you are cowards and much more you have driven the sport to the point of dying out completely. Your failure to even acknowledge the punter whose hard earned cash you take each week is a disgrace and you should hang your heads in shame except that you have no morals. To the directors, board and whatever you call yourselves on the BSPL you are a disgrace to the sport.4 points

I like Kolodziez as a rider, but no, not after his last effort, he was like Lindback and KK, you didn’t know which Kolodziez was going to turn up. Erm, tell me what position in this years GP are last years Challenge top 3. The SEC is better producing worthy GP contestants at the moment and that competition only has the winner going through. Putting the Challenge top 5 through would be ridiculous IMO.3 points

Each speedway promotion is a separate business entity. The BSPL Ltd is merely a corporate wrapper placed around to BSPA to make if sound grander than it is (and give its members some protection in the form of limited liability should the organisation be sued). The BSPA/BSPL has no assets to speak of * * except perhaps some GTR's in somebody's garage.3 points

There was no dust of any consequence after heat 4. Track was watered then and the dust was negligible. Certainly is was underwatered before the meeting though, as I said on here last night.3 points

I can only go on the updates, but it seems a great performance by Leon Flint. Peter Adams always tells his riders that their job is to beat their opposite number and Flint has done that. In addition to beating Starke and Kemp he has also beaten Anders Row and Craig Cook. So all in all a great performance by him.3 points

I didn’t purchase it I was offered the chance to watch it and report on any bugs etc.. Yes it’s not officially live. The stream was excellent though with a commentator and guest rider from Berwick. A few very small gremlins but to be honest it was good enough to pay £12 for and no one would have been disappointed. Four camera production with full colour graphics which would Shame Eurosport.2 points

Well done to Kent on an excellent performance tonight. They really should've had at least 3 points. 10 heat winners in a row from heat 4 to heat 13 is unprecedented for an away team at Armadale. After a poor night the home side showed some grit and determination over the last 3 heats to grab an unlikely draw. Kye Thomson has been a major success this season, but he's been creeping/rolling at the start for a good few weeks now. He needs to cut that out - he's shown he doesn't need to do it to win races. William Lawson really only contributed one third place ahead of Ben Morley in 4 races. The track wasn't great tonight - obviously prepared for potential rain - but there was still several good races. Scotty Nicholls pass on Sam Masters in Heat 6 was sublime. Great to see Cameron Heeps back to form. He always rode Armadale well. And good to see Luke Crang pick up his first Championship points.2 points

I really do not think that it matters whether Buster has recently had rider experience. In years gone by riders honed their craft and knew how to control the machine in a variety of track conditions and could work the track. Today you seem to have machines where riders are simply passengers and many are a far cry from the experience that prevailed in the 60’s through to the 80’s. Riders have the right not to take to the track but if a rider is prepared to give it a go to see if it is rideable then why not allow the trial to go ahead. Referees are unlikely to have the same experience as a rider and frankly should allow some benefit of the doubt to the riders. How often do you hear from the top riders criticism of referees who make a call but have little or no knowledge of the bikes/riders and the track conditions. No rider wants to deliberately injure a colleague or competitor but speedway is a risk sport and those that compete know the consequences of their actions. Buster, love him or hate him, knows how to prepare a track and would not go out of his way to raise the risk of injury by preparing a duff track and riders should know the bikes and arrange them set ups to suit the conditions so it is a case of give and take. Unfortunately riders today want perfect conditions and neither the sport, the weather or the tracks will rarely offer this as an option and those who are looking for the ideal world should sell their machines and look for another job and stop letting down the punters who turn out to see racing. Any right minded businessman would not invest in the current set up and if the figures stack up re bangers and stock cars where I believe most competitors pay to compete in a meeting, then why the hell run a speedway team. Get back to part timers etc and those who think they are so good enough, ply your trade in Poland or elsewhere and you will then soon receive a wake up call to your worth.2 points

Pleased to say I was a regular when the "Rebels" located to Wood Lane between 1976 and 1978. Continued to support the "Cheetahs" at Cowley during that period so experienced the best of both worlds! Great days!2 points

I have serious doubts that Buster will be running the speedway next year. After last nights debacle who can blame him for getting out? I have seen meetings go ahead on much worse tracks. Last night was another big nail in British Speedways coffin.2 points

Without going all days of yore... In the past, riders have taken to a track and "turned it over" with the result that the inside became slicker and the "heavy slop", that had been sent out wide by their back wheels, then got removed... We see even in the GP's how a wet track will settle down after five or six races so have as many riders as needed doing 20 to 25 laps on it... One at a time if needs be to ensure health and safety.. (And no one complain that this is an advantage to those doing it).. I remember seeing BV v Berwick in the days of Tatum, Nilsson and Knight on a saturated track and after an hour or so of track work it produced some of the greatest racing I watched around there. With Neil Collins flying past riders due to the racing being down to more about natural ability and not just horsepower. (And it must have been great racing for me to remember it as such amongst the hundreds of other meetings attended).. At this rate, and very soon, there wont be enough tracks left for the riders to decide not to race on.. How ironic would that be?2 points

I do hope that Buster changes his mind but I fear that by making a public statement like this he will not want to back down. The risers of course can refuse to ride - I presume that they would not be paid either. However, if two clubs close down then that's more limited earning opportunities for them. I doubt if many would get a place in the Polish league next season. If the sports is to survive in this country then it needs promoters and riders to work together. And having read some of the earlier posts can we cut out the cheap jokes. I remember a certain Poole fan making jokes about Coventry closing down. Well it and a big part of my life disappeared. I can't recall any wise cracks about Poole's problems! There's nothing laugh at in the circumstances. Support speedway. Go to matches!2 points

British Speedway in its current format and leadership from the BSPL is in a race to the bottom, fans are getting older every season there are fewer and fewer and barely any youngsters getting to watch nowadays, but each close season the BSPL say everything is hunky dory, theres none so blind as those that wont listen, can you hear BSPL ?.2 points

After all the build-up pre-season about new in-depth and insightful coverage from Eurosport it's just exactly the same as it was last year on BT, both in terms of the production and meetings covered. Even the barely readable (often incorrect) on-screen graphics and shoddy camerawork/direction is exactly the same. I have no complaints about the presenting team but you just get the impression that the production company have no clue how to broadcast a speedway race.2 points

What is the fixation, or maybe bitterness, with Glasgow? If reducing wages at Eastbourne is a possibility, then does that not suggest that the club were paying too much to begin with?2 points

Keleher got a bit naughty at Redcar on Sunday though. After a race, going along back straight, as he passed Jake Allen, he yanked the cut off from Allens bike. Redcar riders quickly surrounded him! No idea what he must have been thinking, but seems both stupid and dangerous.2 points
