  1. Don't know why people are complaining about paying £15 for the stream, you either pay or don't, 4 of us traveled up from Workington, probably at a cost of £50 each by the time you paid admission, program food and petrol thoroughly enjoyed the racing, we could have paid for the stream and sat at home, but watching speedway on the terraces is miles better

  2. You can't accuse Glasgow of lack of fan engagement. The riders walked across the centre green as a light show lit up the stadium and music blared. The riders were introduced individually with frequent mentions of the SoN triumph as well as all awards won by each individual rider. Each rider received a gift from the Tigers Growlers Club (youngsters) and they had their photo taken with their rider something they'll always remember. The riders of both teams then climbed on to the Tigers Support truck which did two laps of the track with riders waving and fans of both sides cheering, many of whom were wearing and waving the specially commissioned scarves. The display of the trophy would have been nice but wouldn't have added much to the evening. As others have said the only downside were the crashes, injuries and heavy rain that arrived at heat 13 robbing us off a probable last heat decider.

  3. I'd argue the two teams who pulled out should of not entered in the first place absolute folly in current climate

  4. I'm sorry but if that's going to be the level of next season's championship then they're will be even more tracks closing. That is not attractive at all. As been said before the solution isn't to weaken the second league so the top one looks stronger. People will vote with their feet

  5. The Polish team lost...At home. That probably put them off hosting again From the scorechart you posted above, it looks like at least Kings Lynn were using a guest, presumably due to a clash of teams...PePe wasn't racing for you guys in 2015. Who was he replacing? Would it have been Iversen that was your number 1 back then? Edit - I see from Arnie's link above that it was held in ZG in 2014 as well. World Speedway League (Zielona Gora) 18/10/2014 5pm | Speedway Updates (proboards.com) So the Poles hosted it two years in a row and lost at home to the Swedes 2 years in a row...I can see why their enthusiasm might have faded, a bit like their enthusiasm for the SoN is fading

  6. I don’t think Tom went down on purpose. Us Monarchs get a bit edgy at heat 15 deciders. We don’t call it binning it in these parts - it’s called doing The Pontus.

  7. There is no such rule of a NL guest - “no facility” rule is a rider minus 25% of the missing riders average. However a facility is granted for circumstances of that riders wedding - maybe the last being Simon Lambert. Precedent is set and thereby Glasgow applied for a facility which has been granted. My main gripe is more to do with the “apparently” word used in the press release. Can you imagine if he wasn’t getting married and we applied to get one - then I’d expect us to be thrown out of the competition.

  8. Wouldn't it be interesting if there was a speedway equivalent of the Champions League? Poland's champions Wroclaw riding against Britain's champions would be a very close affair over two legs.

  9. British speedway fans. Absolutely no pleasing them. It's Glasgow in October ffs of course there's going to be rain about. Delays were completely unavoidable so all this could've finished is nonsense

  10. We know and we know exactly what the Monarchs are capable of at Armadale . So taking nothing for granted

  11. Thought Cook had the ride of the night in Ht 10 to pass Pickering then Team ride Nicol to hold of Pickering( who was very entertaining and never gives up).Cook was sublime tonight IMO.That’s the best I have seen him ride this season.

  12. One things for sure. ‘To cut a long story short” it won’t be “Gold” for Monarchs. That’s definitely “True”. Perhaps they can use “Chant Number One” for their local rivals.

  13. We’re going to need Heeps to break down en route!

  14. Totally wrong. The state of British speedway at this current time means they can’t afford to bring such riders in even if those riders wished to come. Those riders aren’t here because they chase the money and there’s none left in the UK. When Somerset signed Jason Doyle , world champion at the time, it added exactly zero to their gate receipts and created a massive hole in their wages budget. A recipe for disaster ? the club never recovered and where are they now !

  15. Id argue that losing two teams throughout a season that started with only 8 sides is pretty disconcerting, throw in that only one stand alone team remains and they have very little say in their sole product certainly makes it hard to imagine why any new promotions would want to apply. I loved the product previously and the level was such that riders did genuinely make good strides in their progress and move into the higher tiers a more complete product. Looking at this seasons performances there are riders who were already competing at a higher level and are dramatically better than the opposition they face, once some of those are removed from next season how will the teams look? A mix of eternal NL riders and rookies with little or no credentials. The ethos of riders who want to get out there and get on with it has always been present but riding on slick 2nd half tracks is teaching them little and in some cases will end riders careers before they have barely begun.

  16. Surely the league setup has to change before anyone starts building teams. We can’t have 6 clubs in a league again with pretty much all top riders doubling down .

  17. And where do all the riders come from?
    2 points
  18. If it’s the same riders, why does it cost a lot more? That doesn’t make any sense. ——— Anybody calling for a reduction to the points limit needs to give their heads a wobble. Lowering the points limit only serves to weaken the product further.

  21. They want Poole to step up, give them Weds nights!!

  22. The whole situation is a result of weak governance, nothing will change until that is sorted.

  23. I feel the Championship needs to be weaker, 1) to encourage the likes of Poole / Glasgow / Leicester to step up 2) to shorten the difference between Champ & NDL for riders trying to step up! At the moment riders can score maximums at NDL level but not score a point in the Champ! Makes it tough to know if you are good enough to step up! 3) if it makes the Champ a cheaper league to run - bonus!

  24. Edinburgh have pulled equally iffy tricks in the past I’d say. It does make a bit of a mockery of things though. That said Heeps has a low average this season for a reason and might not fly out the traps as he’s bound to be a little rusty. It still strengthens the Tigers though no doubt - big night for Drew (again).

  25. British speedway fans jeez oh if we were counting in old money pre decimal would be moaning if a farthing was too much

  26. The Poles don't travel very well, they are good in Poland.

  27. Said to you that you had all your ducks in a row. Minute rained off last Saturday I said Tigers had the momentum as at home first. Tom B there for both legs, recovery for Nicol and now Heeps at reserve. The only Worrall that made it’s mark tonight was Richie’s dog on the track walk. Kye probably had his worst meeting of season. Drew struggled too. Beaten fair and square tonight. Said we would need 42 tonight - game over.

  30. Can’t see Glasgow without Edinburgh - derbies between the two clubs are needed for both teams.

  31. Another concern regarding this RS system. The youth championship when 1st started had far more riders coming through. Sure at Glasgow was over 30 heats one year. This season been 3 or 4 in each class. The riders are not there IMO to carry it on

  32. and Bangs says he will be doing SWEDEN, Denmark, Poland again next year. Would like to do UK in 3 years. (Speedwaygp web site)

  33. Spot on, take a look at the NDL which is now on its knees due to the lowered points limit. The CL side above "appears" respectable because it has a few "names" on false averages. One team will get the British champ on a sub 8 ave, Heeps is sub 5 because he was injured/tripe and Clouting is struggling for points in the weakened NL. The PL team again looks better because of names rather than current form. Batch, Crump and Covatti are not the riders they one were, Kurtz is not the rider he should have become and so on. Lowering the bar to make riders Prem / Champ or even NL level isn't the way to help the sport short, medium or long term.

  34. Why would they change it? Programmes will have been printed, guests assembled based on cup rules etc. They’ll run it as planned. Don’t seen Edinburgh coming through the tie though so is fairly academic.

  35. Can't see the fixtures being swapped but if they were, presumably Poole would lose Connor Bailey as a guest?

  36. It was held somewhere in Poland, 2015 maybe? Lynn were in it as Poole declined from memory.

  37. I thought it actually did run but just not in this country... as I seem to remember there being issues with riders that raced for more than one club

  38. It’s been covered already in the thread a few times, but Miskowiak was being examined for an injury from earlier on, and at the same time, there were medics with a spectator who had taken unwell. This took a while and there were multiple, frequent conversations between the referee and the clerk of the course. To be honest, it was the crash in heat 13 that was the real cause of the early finish. Medics were with Kubera/Ellis for quite a while - they were still on track when I left, although obviously time pressures disappear once a meeting is off. Without the crash, we’d have been OK, though conditions for heat 15 would’ve been suboptimal.

  39. To be fair, they might have been planning to after the meeting, but obviously didn't get a chance to because of how it finished. It was a bit of a shame though.

  40. No press release last time I looked from Glasgow.
    1 point
  41. Absolutely but if its an official press release for a professional sports team/club it shouldn't contain opinions unless it's quotes from a club official, just doesn't come across well.

  42. Apart from apparently and suggesting Tom binned it in heat 15 last week yeah Mike likes his one liners.

  43. Shouldn’t have extended cut off at all. Same with cup. Birmingham changed our tie to a league match with Leicester with a few days notice. Should have forfeited it and Tigers and Monarchs wouldn’t be in this situation.

  44. Fantastic individually but awful if you play then all at one

  48. What's the difference ray c ? Same riders in both league's apart from a few . And it costs a lot more to ride in the so called premiership, so I understand Poole staying where they are, more teams in the championship.

  49. Who are Glasgow meeting in the playoffs? They are still waiting to find out who their opponents will be! Similarly they have been waiting since the summer to find out their semi final ko Cup opponents thanks to Birmingham cancelling their fixture with Edinburgh at short notice. Finally the GB meeting is being held on a night that is not their normal or alternative race night. Get a life!
