Well… the good news already with our 3 signings made sure it was a sell out! The place was packed. Leon scooped up all the awards for the senior team other than Bonus Point King which went to Kyle… “Bartosz” Blair scooping up the Bullets glory (and rightly so ) Aaron retiring from speedway but will be carrying on with road racing, motor crossing and will still be there on Saturday nights in the pits… NBJ showed up and pretty much said his mental health had taken an absolute battering.. he was falling behind with his business in Denmark, the renovation of his house with his girlfriend and not scoring over here as he knew he can… it sounded like a goodbye speech but was great to see him there and looking so much happier… Jye was at the Belle Vue End of Season Bash… Jamie confirming things are moving forward positively for 2022… he knows what is happening and will continue to do things as he does! Quite an emotional speech from Flinty when it came to talking about the Bullets and how close they came to winning the title … grass roots speedway truly means so much up here to them.. you can understand why our junior system is so well thought of when you see and listen to the youngsters speak! Ben Rathbone is now our asset! More to come very soon I imagine but a very very positive happy night was had…..

Scott Courtney runs Berwick Jamie Courtney will run Oxford harris has signed for Berwick and has agreed to ride for Oxford when they were planning to run in the premiership Oxford will be championship so Harris will no longer be in the team as he already signed for Berwick

All correct, but, Jamie Courtney runs Berwick not Scott, Scott took a step back, but is still a co-promoter, as far as I’m aware Jamie is going to be the promoter at Oxford, but will not be putting any money into it, and just representing someone else, for the need to have a BSPA licensed promoter

Those of us who support teams in the second tier have known for ages that it’s the superior league. Adding Oxford will only strengthen that and I am very much looking forward to seeing them at Armadale and also hopefully paying a visit when Edinburgh race there.

Well, while my earlier statement of expectation was correct at the time of posting, since then the Premiership - despite crying out for more tracks - have seemingly closed ranks to refuse Oxford admittance to "the club". Thus, despite a wish to come back as a PL circuit, the new Cheetahs will therefore indeed now be welcomed to the "better league". I turn out to be wrong in my earlier post, and apologise. Glad to have a new, vibrant, organisation joing to CL tho.....

And never will whilst their operating model allows any rider to ride for any team at any given time... Unsurprisingly. Zero credibility brings Zero interest from major sponsors... When even winning a title means so little, it will always be a hand to mouth, constantly changing, year on year existence...

The sad thing is that the sport does not excite enough people to turn out and watch it. Why anyone would bother with the hassle of running a club only to look out on race night at a few hundred hardy souls standing watching, is anyone’s guess. On the other side if you want a decent return on the time invested in running a track then you only have to look at bangers and stock cars. A prime example would be the meeting at Kings Lynn on the 31st October. How speedway would like a crowd like that at a meeting. Tinkering around at the edges is not going to work. The sport requires extensive surgery and a long period to build back up. Poland is only going to make life more difficult and with riders able to earn a reasonable living and commute by road to a nearby country for extra club meetings, why bother flying in and out of the U.K. with all the hassle. So whilst training new British talent is essential that in itself does not solve the fundamental problem that the sport simply has little appeal and no serious sponsors at domestic level and is incapable of attracting decent crowds on a weekly basis to watch a league meeting in which you have a pool of riders thrown together under the banner of a club name who the following night are riding for another track/club.

Absolutely !! I mean just watching the video yesterday and hearing Blazeaway, the tingle down the spine at that anyway Was no great fan of Dave Lanning, at least as a speedway tv commentator, and looking back at some of his old speedway star columns, they were a bit painful to read. But I think he was in his element as the stadium announcer. Both the Lanning's added something very much lacking at Plough Lane in the previous years. But the drop down in 1985 I think was a memorable period for me. The local rivalries and the riders we ended up having. Ferreira, Jamie, Stingray, Todd and of course Roger, plus many decent supporting riders I loved it, whilst trying to block out the feel it was all coming to an end, with the closing off of a large part of the stadium. Think looking back with a pooor memory, wasn't there one at least scare that we were closing a season or two before we did ?

All will be revealed in time need to keep the winter interesting no point in releasing the 7 in one go & then its a long boring winter . Starting with early next week Plus it’s always good to read some of the rumours that come out right & wrong ones

IMO, in team racing you should only get a point for each opposition rider you're placed ahead of. Thus a 5-1 would be 4-0, a 4-2 would be 3-1 and a 3-3 would be a 2-2. It would put paid to the nonsense of paid points, and teams still getting a point for finishing last. 3-2-1-0 is fine for individual meetings.

If rumours are true and the Eastbourne results are expunged from the averages, surely Newcastle should be after getting Newman back on a 5.03, if he isn’t already Plymouth bound

Just going off riders not riding for other teams & Rob trying to get riders that do well at the EWR then Douglas Allen Jorgensen Lambert Mountain Kennedy Palin or if 2 x RS Douglas Allen Jorgensen Lambert Mountain/Kennedy Gilkes Palin If 38/39 were the limits this year for 1 x RS then removing a reserve to fit 2 x RS in then limit could be 34 but I can not see where the riders are coming from for their(BSP L) 5 year plan. All the 3 & 4* riders might now have averages applied due to riding experience whereas the 1 & 2* riders, in 2021, have another year.

Dickson confirmed were in the championship next season with JCB giving us a two year sponsorship deal. I could easily see master's coming. Sounds ambitious but masters has said a few years back he loves the track but his wages were abit high for Dave Helmsley.

It's a very big subject and there is no single thing that can be done to fix everything but to do nothing is not an option. Every owner of a club must be applauded for getting through this season as nobody could realistically have seen Covid coming and nobody knew what the crowd numbers would be like coming out of lockdowns... BUT, I still think much could be done to actually promote the sport which just doesn't seem to be happening at the moment. I can only speak for Leicester, but I live local to the track and you would not know anything was going on in the city as regards to Speedway other than an advert I see on the side of a bus. There's a shopping centre within a few hundred feet of the arena with a massive foot fall, yet I have never seen anything promoting Leicester Speedway in there. Why isn't there a rider and machine displaying there on match day giving away discounted tickets? It's really simple things like this that just aren't being done. Also when were you last attracted to a match to see "rider x"? Since all of the "stars" have left British Speedway I can't recall ever thinking to myself "I must go to the Speedway tonight to see..." whoever, probably the last time I thought that was Darcy Ward in 2015. And now it seems that any star that is produced works their way to the top and then out of the sport in this country. If you're not going to have star riders to attract crowds then all you have are teams and at the moment they just aren't credible. I would be more than happy to watch even weaker teams than we have at the moment as long as they are credible, if that means watering down the league then so be it. The fans should have a voice somewhere, especially regarding the race night experience, if the first you know about fans not being happy is them not attending then it's too late. I could go on... but it's all bee said before.

Thought on the "rising star" situation. Why not just create a list of riders considered to be rising stars (Josh bates need not apply) and say that every team has to consist of at least 2 of them but based on their CMA and new riders come in on a 2.00 from NL? Means for example Berwick can keep flint and bickley, Leicester the Thompson twins, Edinburgh kemp and Edwards, Glasgow Bailey and Brennan but without drastically weakening the league. And will allow same riders more spots in the top league, if there is one
