Had a walk down to Northside today, plenty of activity from around a dozen volunteer's, the base is in and looks well packed down, plenty of camber on both bends and also on straights, inside curb being laid, about 2/3 done, shale ex Derwent park being sorted to be laid in the next few weeks, changing rooms and pits to be marked out and built, so still lots to do and winter weather on its way !! Good luck to the people behind the venture,7 points

Would Glasgow have been in the final with Crump though.Just earning some pocket money while over here with Seth. Was a great rider and entertainer in his day,but that’s well past.4 points

It's a totally new track in the area where the old training track was, but the bank's around the site have been taken out to extend the site, track size around 280-300 meters I'm led to believe3 points

In fairness you see at least one rider per meeting having a tantrum in the pits3 points

Absolutely brilliant to be scrolling through the teams and see Oxford in the list3 points

In a year when 3 championship clubs have folded and one came very close to doing so and criticism of the treatment of the NDL has at times been scathing, that is hard to accept. If they are motivated by 'self interest' then the plight of the sport as a whole may not matter much and there are those who would far sooner state that everything is fine when - clearly - it isn't than admit they have got it seriously wrong. In doing so, they fool themselves only.3 points

Adrian Smith will be another in quite a long line who have seen the sport from outside and thought "Wow! What potential".... So therefore, got involved, .. And, like others before him, would have gone into it thinking that all he had to do was highlight to the those already incumbent all the obvious inherent flaws that all can see hold the sport back in the UK... And then simply convince them that there are a great many alternative ways of moving this great sport forwards... However... Like so many others before him he has failed to take into account how insular and short term focused so many within the sport are, with many appearing to be "quite happy" with their lot as they hold 'some power'... Failing to grasp of course that they 'hold power' in a sport that hardly anyone has heard of, never mind cares about.. "Ideas People" are not wanted....3 points

I think it's more a case of not giving us a second thought rather than secrecy as such. I wish, for once, someone up there would give some recognition to the paying public and treat us with a little respect. What could be more interesting just now, than knowing or speculating who will be riding for your club next year? Give us the numbers and we can construct all sorts of fantasy sides.2 points

Really? A bit of transparency? Imagine the carnage that would cause when "certain teams" get allowed to track a rider who clearly isnt eligible according to the rules... The less we know, the less we can flag up as being clearly wrong... Lift carpet and brush under it, and if all else fails....? "It is in the interest of British Speedway"..2 points

Thanks. Congratulations to all the winners especially the IOW who have proved yet again that they really do know what they are doing.2 points

How can you say that you're very confident that they will run when they have not agreed to a deal buying the club yet? Then if they do the big rent increase to get over.2 points

I only read the article cos he was talking about the final and how he thought they needed a 20 point lead. Quite complementary about Poole as well, I was surprised! Might have to forgive all his misdemeanours that have taken at Poole in the past! Berwick looking at have a good team especially if they get the last two right.2 points

Yeah not for me either. Cheaper, better and far more progressive options out there on the average.2 points

Can’t imagine anybody disliking Donk to be honest. Great rider and even greater fella.2 points

Well I'm gonna disagree,,,, I don't think Cam will put anywhere near a point on his average,,, in fact I'm gonna say it won't go up at all. He can't gate for toffee,,, and his track craft isn't good enough to stay in front of any one slightly decent. So let's hope he signs and we will see who is right. I consider myself to be pretty good with what rider will do what.2 points

Not likely I know, not least because I don't have a team to support any more, but I would hate a team I supported to sign Leon Madsen. I can't stand him, although I'm not sure why.2 points

I'm not sure Britain exactly 'deprived' other countries of their top riders in the 70s. Poland was behind the Iron Curtain, and I don't think the Swedish Leagues allowed riders to make a decent living by itself. Even then, apart from a brief period, I think Swedish riders in the BL also competed in the Swedish leagues, and I'd guess German Longtracks also pulled a lot of the top speedway riders in those days. The Danish and German leagues started to professionalise in the 1980s, but even then, I doubt any riders could make a living in them by themselves.2 points

Some good stats there. Olsen joined Wolves from Newcastle as their number one so was already established. Nielsen was a raw 17 year old when he joined Wolves but hit the ground running...remember seeing him the first time at White City in 1977 and one could tell then that he was going to be a bit special. Ermolenko arrived after a year away from Britain (after a year spent at Poole in 1984 when he sometimes appeared unpredictable falling when unchallenged) on the back of a successful 1985 World Final appearance. He quickly became the undisputed number one at Monmore Green. Difficult comparing eras but by time Ermolenko rode for Wolves the likes of Carter, Sanders, Sigalos, Penhall, Lee (effectively) amongst others had left the scene. Both Nielsen and Olsen rode during the era of Mauger, Collins and in Olsen's case, Michanek and Briggs to name a few.1 point

incoming president is Len Silver. team of the year GB Speedway. Isle of Wight community club of the year. unsung hero John Sampford. Briggo got a special recognition award. Kenny McKinna & Paul Ackroyd from the SRBF and the WSRA received cheques from Rob Doran from his recent Ivan Mauger evening, Laurence Rogers and Bruce Cribb from the sale of Cribby's book, and Glen & Lynda Belcher from the annual summer BBQ. Phil Rising memorial was presented by James Easter for Andy Skeels of the Star who unfortunately couldn't make it. A Life Dedicated to Speedway award for Colin Pratt, accepted by Sue & Troy Pratt. Graham Miles did a short comedy stint as outgoing president Egon Muller couldn't be there. and plenty of takings at the bar!1 point

That is a truly fantastic ride. Heeps is a little like Ben Howe, both had bags of ability but never seemed like achieving the success they should. Both fans favourites because of their all action from the back approach. On another note this clip shows both the good and bad, a fantastic heat of action truly top draw sporting action, but 1 minute 14 seconds of buggering about at the start.1 point

Nearly every clip uploaded by the club as their highlight race of the night over the last few years involved him grabbing a handful of throttle and going around someone. But as I said in an earlier post, at the start of the year before the injury, we weren’t seeing that. I know Taps has rightly said he was only a couple of points away from holding his starting average before injury, but he never looked right to me, very flat. That could have been machinery related, a slow start due to inactivity for a year because of the gap caused by Covid ( would affect some riders more than others) or could have been a lack of hunger and desire. If it was the latter then that would be the biggest concern as the other reason could be easily overcome. Let’s be honest, Cam’s professionalism and dedication has come in to question in the past and with good reason. He cleaned up at youth level in Australia, came over here at 15 and immediately topped the NL averages with Mildenhall and looked destined for huge things in the sport. Safe to say he’s never got anywhere near fulfilling his huge potential and talent he clearly had/has.1 point

Wouldn't want him at Panthers. The hope will be he does an Ostergaard before his 40th birthday and Ipswich benefit for all the hope, time and effort invested1 point

Strange as I would have thought Cam would have been right up your street to be honest. Whenever the BSPA release their “race of the night” on social media, the ones of us nearly always involve Cam. Fair enough if you don’t think he’ll improve his average, but I’d have thought you’d have wanted him for the entertainment value around Foxhall. Let’s be honest, he’s pretty much the only one we’ve had in recent years that offers that. Covatti was the last one before him.1 point

The huge difference between Eastbourne and Kent and Birmingham is that the landlords want speedway at their stadium and not just as a revenue stream. The Dugard family have been involved in the sport for decades and that runs deep.1 point

It can actually take a lot of work... The first thing to do is Google the track, and you may find an article that states exact location. Then, you can either go to the maps website stated (some on here may know some shortcuts), and look from there, or (as I do first) check on Google Earth to see if I can find a pic. The problem is that with tracks that were only short-lived, you have to find something from that era... Regarding Sandford, this is what I have just found, and now I'm looking for maps and pics:: 'Apparently the track was at he end of the village on the left of the old road to Nuneham Courtenay about at the end of the mobile home park."1 point

As he is the Leaseholder once his monthly lease and other bills are paid anything else goes into his profit margin I would think So entrance money plus beer and food sales and any sponsorship will hopefully make the Speedway breakeven at the very least and any profit is great. As Jamie Courtney said in his interview I heard on the Radio. Hopefully some big crowds for the first few meetings then a successful entertaining team keeps the paying public coming back. Poole are the yardstick Since Matt Ford took over they've had good entertaining teams and due to the success and footfall that brings they get decent sponsors and advertisers1 point

I have no issues with the team to date. Depending on the young New Zealander 's average if the final rider were Kyle Newman or Richie Worrall I think we would win most home meetings and that's what principally counts. When (a while ago now) most years we had a team that was competitive, young overseas riders were given extended runs in the team and noone complained much. I have a great deal of sympathy with Archie Freeman, his parents and sponsors (and @Tsunami who I know has put a lot of time and effort in) but ultimately - as was made very clear to all supporters last season - this is a business. I have never run a speedway club and have not seen the break-even figures for Newcastle but from experience in running other businesses the first consideration when times are tough has to be to keep the ship afloat and that can mean taking hard decisions.1 point

In all prev named riders I have no inside knowledge just going off what I've read on here. As you say maybe they planned not to use Riss but now Richie has gone they've reneged on any deal with Redcar?1 point

It seems there will be premiership fillers next year which means seeing the same riders again and again. Like a fair few I suspect ,I will be picking my meetings next season. It would be great to see Glasgow, Redcar , Oxford etc . It just seems madness to me to keep peddling something that obviously isn't really working1 point
