  4. Allegedly sold Gaz but if any of this lot said it was raining I would still go outside to check... Another rumour that has surfaced is that 4 interested buyers now... but two run off when they heard the facts and the other two are apparently still mulling things over; however the clincher will be; and again if true... the rent will be £50k next season to hire Brough (which is apparently what Brum pay) For a stadium with no floodlight facility... Makes you wonder... Regards THJ

  5. It was announced at the Scunny v Edinburgh match that Dave will miss the rest of the season due to going into hospital. . Here’s wishing him a speedy recovery from whatever the medical problem is he suffering with

  6. Makes no difference considering his points included beating Becker (twice) and Nick Morris as well as Thompson and Jorgensen. He actually retired whilst leading in the reserves race! Would have been a double figure score otherwise. Starke rides Wolves very well, always has. I know fans of losing teams always try and find excuses but you’re clutching at straws here.

  9. Must have been around 2000 capacity at Oxford against Glasgow, the crowd went wild when Oxford got a 5-1 in last heat to win it.

  11. But also suffered when success wasnt being delivered... Big crowds suddenly became "average" when the trophies were not guaranteed... They are a club that, more than most, seem to do very well at the gate when success is happening, but lose out more than most pro rata when it doesnt.. I presume choosing to drop down into Div 2 was down to not getting enough punters in to make Div 1 deliver what they wanted? If they had got 2000 a week I would have thought that this would have been more than enough to stay in the top flight..

  15. I hope Kyle does well, but I don't think he will strengthen the team. If they were going to drop Adam, they should have done it before the new averages kicked in. Could have fit Paul Stark in.

  16. I dont understand the ongoing obsession speedway fans have in the UK regarding crowds, fact is no club in the country gets good crowds, i can remember when every track i visited got four or five figure crowds, BV for example would take 6 coaches down to Swindon as well as people making their own way. Away fans came in large numbers to Hyde Road as it was a family day out with the fun fair and zoo, the BLRC could have 20,000 fans in, just to think speedway used to get football type crowds on a regular basis many years ago, those days are long finished. Sad to see the sport as it is today Lisa. Maybe the powers that be need to study where Poland was then and how they got to where they are now? Next up tv meeting with the majority staying to watch on tv.

  17. Why would the FIM or more likely the series rights holders want to restrict how many lucrative GPs they stage each year? As you say, it's all about maximising revenue and very little to do with sharing things around, quite aside from the fact hardly anyone else actually wants to stage a GP.

  19. Enjoyed that tonight... Some cracking racing from both teams.. No guests either... (Not sure if that is allowed in the regulations though).. Connor Mountain and Tom Brennan both deserved more for their efforts, but great to see young British lads mixing it with GP stars.. Plenty of sponsors on the centre green too, and that ball game thingy is good to keep the kids involved, so the Aces look like they are giving something a go off track too... Biggest crowd of the year at the NSS for the Premiership? Maybe 1800/1900? No guests, decent crowd, full on cracking racing from both sets of riders, regardless of the scoreline, interaction with the fans, and all done an dusted by 915pm... When done this well, what's not to like about British Speedway? It shows it can be done...

  27. Leicester can maintain continuity by hosting Cubs' matches on blank Saturdays. Same is true for Berwick, Edinburgh, Oxford and Plymouth. No need to worry about short season for tracks with NDL teams.

  28. Yeah I was looking at Scunthorpes remaining home fixtures and it’s similar with 2 summer trophy meetings , 1 league Vs Berwick and a KO cup to be arranged think they would have been better playing everyone twice home and away

  30. We are getting better crowds now in the Champ than we did riding on Mon/Thurs in the Prem. Most of it is down to riding on a Weds instead of a Thurs. But slightly more teams in the Champ has a bearing on it too I think. @Skidder1 will be able to tell you the average crowd in 2019. But I was really starting to lose interest in it that year so only went to like 2 meetings!

  37. To be far the riders of today are only taking advantage of the frankly rubbishe rules that the BSPA/L have introduced over many years. It was so much better when those who rode for your team only rode for your team & we're happy to chat and have a beer in the bar after the meeting.

  39. The problem with a rider having to "rest" after pulling out of a fixture, is that it means more guests being needed! Fans already complain that too many guests are used - with a rule like that a club would be forced to use a guest, while a rider, who's been declared fit, wants to ride!

  42. Where did you get that from? The BYC wasn't covered, since the Scunny stream is done by a young and enthusiastic group of lads, some of which had college, etc, to go to today and it takes significant time for them to pack up the gear.

  43. My recollection was that in the stadium you could only hear the commentary on the last lap, whereas on the You Tube videos you can hear him throughout the race. What he was able to do was use the commentary to gee up the crowd if the Dons had pulled off a good race win and he was one part of an excellent promotion team. Mike Bennet was excellent when he was at Wimbledon, too.

  44. Speedway at Birmingham Wheels was unsuccessful during the three seasons of its operations there. There were many reasons for this, most of them being out of the control of Birmingham Speedway. The place was in its complete infancy, getting there was difficult and not very safe with no entrance via the main Bordesley Green Road, only via a dark and dismal lengthy back street (Landor Street) and approached through an unlit railway tunnel. The spectator facilities there were non-existant and what little spectator comforts were minimal. Sharing the track with banger cars was a disaster. This is possible at some existing stadia I know, but at the Wheels Park, the banger cars used it daily so preparation of the track for speedway meetings was virtually impossible. Even so, despite the problems, the track was a very good shape and before the cars wrecked it, produced some very good racing, and for all it's primitiveness, spectator viewing was very good. The speedway venture ended when at the instigation of the new Wheels Park Manager, an application to extend planning permission to beyond those first three seasons, was arbitrarily withdrawn, so Tony Mole who had just purchased the speedway rights, wasn't able to continue even though he was prepared to do so. Later attempts to get back into the Wheels Park using a different, unused part of the site to constructed a new exclusive for speedway track, were blocked by the same Wheels Park Manager. Could speedway have re-established itself there? I think it could have. We could have had our own track and used it for training as well as public meetings, and now that there is the access to the site from the main road, we could have capitalised on the fact that it is now on several bus routes, and that Adderley Park Rail Station is close by. The Wheels Park is still located in one of the less glamourous parts of the City it is true, so it might have been a long slow haul to get the club back on it's feet, but I always thought the place had possibilities. Now it seems that the City Council are looking for ways of recovering some of the massive debts it has run up in its efforts to promote the Commonwealth Games, and are trying to reclaim and re-sell the land on which the Wheels Park is situated. All the hard work which has gone into building a popular and well used operation from very small beginnings, will be wasted if they succeed, and I wish the group who are challenging this truly outrageous plan, every possible success in their opposition, and will be happy to help in any way if I can.

  45. I spent many a happy times at Birmingham wheels in my teenage years, not cause of speedway, I was there most Saturdays and Sundays either racing BMX or doing the ramps, we caught the train with our bikes, loved the place and it worked getting kids off the streets, sadly these days the area around the place is less than desirable and that’s being kind, a place like wheels is needed in every town, being brought up with a focus like bikes (motor or otherwise) is a good distraction against the pitfalls of those teenage years

  46. It sounds better, but they could also look at the likes of Finland, Latvia, Norway, France, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia. I doubt they will risk going to the speedway backwaters to make a tiny profit when they know they can make a fat profit in Gorzow.

  47. Some relevant points disclosed by the Projector Director have been reported in the Edinburgh Evening News include:- "Prospective buyers of the vacant site at Deans must submit their proposals to West Lothian Council no later than July 28" "There is a process through the council where they select their bidder and that is ratified, so all of that will happen in the next couple of months." "Through word of mouth there is competition for the site but we believe we have a strong case" As the above confirms, the Promotion have been transparent in their Proposal & Plans, that acquiring the site, together with appropriate planning permission, is not yet a fait accompli. Personally I'm highly impressed with their approach, which will hopefully encourage all fans to support this either financially or with other means of assistance. Reported feedback from local councillors indicates they are aware of the local community initiatives that the Club have been involved in for many years, and hopefully these will be considered favourably when a final decision on who is offered the site is taken.

  48. Pretty clear what happened at Swindon . Plans to build on the Stadium caused outrage so Tomlinson and Sbc puts in clause that allows the Houses to be built and at the same time appeased the gullible Swindon fans (not everyone ) thinking they would get a new Stadium . Of course Tomlinson understands with GI track record it's unlikely it will ever be built but of course he can say it was never his fault .. The more i think about it the more i blame him .
