  1. And nobody is talking about the elephant in the room and it’s been in the room for years ,in the last 15-20 years the revs on a speedway bike have increased dramatically, tyres can’t cope, valves springs can’t cope, tracks can’t cope, nothing has been achieved racing wise or cost wise and safety wise has gone backwards, the only ones to benefit are the tuners and even they will tell you they don’t make enough, it is a misconception that speedway is faster now, it isn’t, the bikes are traveling at roughly the same speed as the upright days, the difference is the speed of the spinning wheel has increased hugely and you run a tyre spinning at that speed with around 6psi what the hell do you expect, yes mitas were a better tyre than anlas but there isn’t a tyre manufacturer in the world that could produce a tyre that wouldn’t get ripped to shreds on a current speedway bike, will speedway learn from its mistakes ? I doubt it

  2. Amazing how Plymouth still have a Eddie Kennett sign up for a place in the pits unbelievable Jeff

  3. When the Anlas was first introduced this issue was happening a lot, certain tracks got given the benefit of allowing extra tyres to be used. The rest of the issues with the early batches were countered by running higher tyres pressures, then the compound changed (with no announcement) and everyone reverted to running lower tyre pressures again. If the storage or rotation of stock has been poor at any level of the supply chain the tyres being used could have easily been of the earlier compound. Lets not forget that the manufacturer change was brought in and mandated rather than allow choice from the hologamated brands list to "reduce cost" (the Anlas costing £7-8 per tyre more than a Mitas and requiring more tyres per meeting!). Lets not forget that those changes were also brought to you by the people who introduced and blew money on the Gerhard fiasco, who still insist on topping up Briggo's retirement pot with one brand of allowed dirt deflector......does anyone genuinely think there will be any meaningful and considered change soon?

  4. The tyres not being fit for purpose has been known about since pretty soon after the Anlas tyre started to be used. The ONLY reason additional tyres were being used at some tracks for the last two years is because of excessive tyre failures at those tracks. But tyres were failing all all tracks to some degree. The Mitas tyres used previously suffered from a gradual wear and catastrophic failures were rare. The facts to consider are as follows: British speedway agreed a contract with Anlas for Tyres. A large amount over a long term. This was a big money contract. These tyres have been proved as not fit for purpose. (british speedway needs a tyre to last for one complete meeting, not two races) If these tyres were supplied on the basis of being able to last a meeting, then why haven't they been returned and refused as not fit for purpose? You have to wonder? If you buy something for a specific reason and it's not up to the job, then you return them? But no, this has been constantly covered up, extra tyres issued, riders told you can't put pictures on social media etc The problem is simple. In order to deal with the situation, some people need to admit they were wrong and have been shovelling this under the rug for 2 years. But the cover up has been going on too long. people have too much at stake to admit, they signed a flawed contract, for a flawed product. The only way they will be flushed out is in a coroners court and I really hope that it never comes to that.

  6. After the dismal last match at Peterborough where we had to stand around for over an hour to watch tractors going round then crap racing to follow and then the shambles last night am I the only one who's lost the plot with British speedway...it's a joke. We have a ridiculous 6 team league thats seen the top 4 decided by July with essentially nothing to ride for until the play offs, I've seen teams tracking nearly full teams of guests, I've seen rules made up as they go along and then that ridiculous call made at the British Final...I could go on but the future is not looking good with Peterborough potentially dropping out next year and the same set of fools at the BSPA continuing to make a mockery of what has the potential to be a great sport (like in Poland)... Dont you think a huge shake up is required!?...I do because I am rapidly losing interest..it's not just a Peterborough thing either as I can't get excited for any of the TV matches anymore..they have nothing riding on them and it's just not interesting anymore. Oh and the guest situation needs looking at also with Pickering (as an example) pretty much riding for 2 teams now which is laughable and only in the UK do we have this stupid situation.

  7. Glad its not just me. The absolute lack of meetings this year and a lacklustre Grand Prix series have made the whole thing go flat. Four home meetings in the last nine weeks when the weather has been at its best is criminal.

  8. Update from Tom Brennan : Hey Guys, Just a quick update on what’s going on after last night’s crash. After a trip to A&E, thankfully we can say things aren’t as bad as we initially thought. I have no broken bones in my lower back but do have muscular spinal damage as well as a broken rib. A bit stiff at the minute as the doctors said I would be and recommended two weeks out but we’ll see how I get on today and tomorrow as to whether tomorrow night is possible. Thanks everybody for all the messages, I really appreciate it. A massive thanks to all the paramedics at Wolverhampton too! Hopefully see you all trackside sooner rather than later. Tom #27

  11. We move down for more variety. And we have to ride against the same team EIGHT times. How boring!

  12. Last night was a prime example why fans don’t go anymore £20 for 10 heats - and there is other reasons British final farce Cardiff Gp track which should be a great advert for speedway - 6 team Premier league - guest riders being used what seems in every meeting wasn’t it Birmingham a few weeks ago had just one of there own riders - then on top of that cost of living crisis which is rammed down our throats by main stream media then you wonder why fans have stopped going ? What is surprising how many still go

  13. Being honest about Speedway in general. Would I miss it if it was gone - Probably but not as much as I would have years ago. Would it bother me if I never returned if my track went. Not in the slightest. And I think this is mostly a generational thing in my opinion it is becoming less appealing to the die-hards.

  14. Lakeside was small but it was pretty wide, especially on the corners, Plymouth by comparison looks frighteningly tiny & narrow, it reminds me of some of those tiny tracks they have in the states except more dangerous.
    3 points
  15. Yep. It's my local track now. I've been a handful of times and can't really recommend it. Far too small, the riders never seem to get going, minimal overtaking. It's a novelty track, but no more.

  16. Nothing like Wolves. Smallest track in the UK. Even Buxton track was bigger. Have been there 3 times, and racing has been woeful. Trick track. Not even a training track imo.

  17. It does. As I said earlier, at Peterborough you can be spinning for almost the whole lap - it's a full throttle circuit and it's shape/banking make that essential. I've used tyres with more wear on than Basso's had (Barum and Mitas) and they didn't puncture. His only got a hole like that on bend 3 because he was riding it flat having punctured on bends 1 and 2. They are clearly not up to the job in hand. If they continue to have to use Anlas then they need 2 new tyres each for each meeting at Peterborough as a minimum. The engine issue will not be solved whilst Poland rule the roost. Does anyone else recognise that we seem to be having more injuries now than ever, even with air fences and a lot happen in Poland. The violent lifting should simply not be happening but it needs the FIM to take charge over these machines. Already we have tracks having to be bald/slick otherwise riders can't cope. Watching speedway from years ago there were some really rough and bumpy tracks but they got on with it and coped OK and still raced each other. It's the cart driving the horse. Shame.

  18. Speedway was perfectly good at Peterborough in the upright or even the early laydown days when revs were a lot less, long stroke engines are more forgiving (especially when the track is rough)and have more usable power than a short stroke but it isn’t necessarily about the stroke of the engine or the angle it’s at, it’s the revolutions of the rear wheel, it is around 30mph+ quicker than the speed of the bike,to slow the back wheel down doesn’t mean to slow the bike, I think if they limited the engines to 10,000 revs max maybe they would revert to longstroke’s but I’m sure they could get a short stroke to work better at lowers revs, a slower spinning wheel mean less tyre wear, less damage to tracks, less engine wear, by its nature the engine would be quieter so we could do away with the current silencer which has restricted the power band even more than before, but none of this will happen because riders will tell you no and they rule the sport, when you see a MotoGP rider or F1 driver do a burn out that is what speedway is doing for 60 seconds every race and doing it a up to 70mph

  19. And in this instance would be absolutely correct not to.

  20. Taken from Sheffield website this morning "..the meeting was abandoned after ten races due to ‘an insufficient number of tyres to complete the meeting’" "But at the end of the day rider safety is paramount and regardless of the number of tyres, it wasn’t safe to continue anyway"

  21. At least it got to heat ten, nice little earner for the two Promotions, not having to pay riders for five races, especially 13 and 15 which are the big bucks races

  22. Apparently the staff who sell the pies at Redcar watched the Charles Wright crash and have advised the promotion he is unable to ride tonight, they are monitoring Jenkins and will make a decision later on whether to force him to ride! - You know you can't believe the press releases - THE TRUTH WILL OUT

  23. The ‘donor team’ would need to sign a replacement rider for their 1-7, despite having no meetings left and it’s difficult to see that happening. The transfer deadline has now passed. The BSPL would not, in my opinion, agree such a re-declaration as being in the best interests of the sport.

  24. so there should have been 14 used tyres from the meetings that both teams used in another meeting , therefore those tyres could ,should have been used to allow the meeting to carry on like sorry if its been mentioned before . last one out put the lights off and throw away the keys . save everyone a good bit of cash ..

  26. For me get rid of riders who cannot commit full time to UK.Form 1 league with the riders left including NDL riders, start at the bottom and build speedway in GB up again.Basically do what happened in 1968 when the formed the 2nd Division, the entertainment will be just as good ,reduced admission on the basis that you are not giving silly money to riders that are mainly riding here for pocket money to supplement their foreign wages. All the fans that want too watch the Superstars can get cheap flight to Poland for the money they need to fork out nowadays to attend British Speedway( at least they will see a full match for their admission fee). The sport cannot survive the way it’s being run down just now.

  27. For me... As I say, for the promoters it is a hobby and fair play to them as without them there isn't any UK Speedway.. However, the reason there isnt any big money in the sport from sponsors or TV is all down to their own leadership of the sport through their own designed operating model... Ironically, by their actions, they both laudiblly keep the sport going, whilst at the same time, are gradually, slowly eroding it away... An excellent product to sell though, as is shown when this country hosts FIM events, with the large crowd numbers who attend these events showing that there is still a fair old market out there for Speedway when done "properly".. Sadly domestic Speedway is surrounded by a poor infrastructure which ultimately dissauades thousands of followers of the sport from attending it on a regular basis.. Who knows, should the promoters ever decide to run it "properly" it may entice the many thousands back who currently follow the sport closely via other media, but choose to stay away from paying money to watch it live domestically... The honest truth though is I fear we will never find that out..

  29. I can see both sides of the argument. On the one hand there is no other rising star anywhere close to the level of Tom so any replacement would be a massive handicap. On the other hand BV could replace their rising star with Hans Andersen for the playoffs. I guess the whole idea of the rising star project is that they progress so it’s probably only fair that it goes on averages, it could happen to any other team next season, it could easily be Leon Flint. Let’s just hope this is a hypothetical discussion and Tom is able to take his well earned place back for the remainder of the season.

  31. But he hasnt been protected in the top 5 and been there now for a couple of months.. Therefore, only fair he gets treated the same as anyone else... As long as the rules are clear, which incredibly for Speedway in the UK they appear to be, and all tracks get the same treatment, then that is what should count...

  37. I would say with the guests yo have , you have every chance of an away win. Un fortunately at this time of year there are always injuries and guests have to be used unless you are Plymouth and have been using guests all year!

  38. Was looking forward to my first visit to Plymouth for this fixture, however due to the nature of the beast, both teams will have a league select riding for them, I will save myself over £150 by cancelling B and B and not spending 12 hours driving to the end of the earth and back.

  40. The FIM should rule that from 1.1.2024 the width of the piston is limited to xx.xx mm. I dont even know how much they are now, but taking 10-20 % off it would pave way for longer stroking engines, wider power curve and it would level up the engine playing field for a couple of years between JRM and GM. Also it woud reduce high end top speeds resulting in less damage in crashes both rider and machinery wise.

  42. While it was still mathematically possible for Lynn to make the playoffs, too many miracles required for this to happen. For that reason, I think you are grasping at straws to refer to Wolves as your playoff rivals.

  46. VAR is a joke. I agree with it in principle but it was supposed to be about alerting the referee to a clear & obvious mistake that he may have made, not micro analysing every goal and using laser line graphics to show that a boot lace or strand of hair was offside. Those aren't clear & obvious mistakes. Indeed, there are many incidents where 2 riders simply arrive at the same piece of track at the same time and it's impossible to apportion blame. My main gripe is when 2 riders are side by side down the straight with the rider inside slightly ahead and the outside rider comes down on the entry to the bend. After all the replays the commentators say "there was contact, he's clipped his wheel/leg, he has to go" before the leading rider is subsequently excluded. Fair enough if he has left the other rider nowhere to go by moving him out to the boards but quite often the leading rider has taken a natural line into the bend and the following rider has plenty of track outside of him but is too close to his opponents back wheel which is inevitably going to swing out. Then you see aggressive and dangerous moves go unpunished because the victim managed to stay on the bike even though it ended his race.
