  2. Oxford was the most-successful club in Britain this year, bar none. You really think that an expensive team is the key to success?

  3. I think it's pretty sick to bring the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II into the "excuses" for pulling out, I thought Glasgow were better than that. They've already renamed the trophy once, they should have just renamed it to the Queen Elizabeth trophy and got on with it. There is now doubt that any competition that Glasgow are involved in the future that they'll just take their ball home if they don't like the name of it. Pathetic really!

  4. Oxford have had a hugely successful first season. Silverware in the first season back (NLRC winner), Chargers getting to the play-offs and great crowds for both Cheetahs and Chargers. I suspect the NL crowds are around double the Championship crowds at Birmingham. That translates to a great atmosphere at Cowley, especially given the younger-than-usual crowd demographic at Oxford which sees many twenty-somethings and thirty-somethings on the terraces alongside the older fans. You'll find there's not many Oxford fans on the BSF, simply because it's all doom-and-gloom on here, and our first season since 2007 has been anything but that!

  5. I mean I think it’s been left far too late anyway but that’s quite possibly the most nauseating excuse when the real reason is stated in the latter section anyway. I’m far more understanding at late in the season and lack of dates than the syncophantic bollocks. She did reach her Jubilee so claiming it’s out of respect is utter garbage, I mean if anything it could be a nice tribute if it were actually the true reason.

  8. I am not one of the usual suspects but can assure you that it is indeed hammering down in Poole. A simple check of the rain radar will confirm this fact.

  10. How many times was he used as a reserve replacement and against what opposition? You can go on and on but watching him ride, he was riding as a heat leader, just from the reserve position, and no one can prove either way whether he would have dropped his average or not. Regardless, still took a massive effort to win the league with r/r and the other injury issues they encountered along the way. Were by far and away the best “team” last year, regardless of Ulrichs form / injury

  11. I’m glad we’ve finally got some clarity. I’m disappointed, but I understand. Is it the real reason? I don’t know. But honestly, for all the noise, the fact is this: clubs should not be left to decide fixtures. I can’t think of any other professional sport where that happens. This is the root of a lot of issues. Fixtures need to be centrally managed, so clubs have regular fixtures and we avoid some of these bun fights. It would remove one of the regular frustrations people have, which is I think at least part of the issue we’ve had with this competition.

  12. The final should be a single match at Leicester, with no return fixture at Wimbo Road. Poole fans will moan but true pirates supposedly cope with one leg.

  15. That’s debatable. Atkins (17+1) only managed to score one more point for the Chargers than Boughen (16+1) over the course of both legs against Leicester in the NDL playoffs. Plus Boughen had 4 heat wins to Atkins’ 2. Considering they were Boughen’s first ever meetings in this country, it’s fair to assume he will get even better…and better far quicker than Atkins will. Not saying Boughen is ready, but the lad clearly has potential. And if the Cheetahs were prepared to throw Killeen in even quicker, it’s not beyond possibility that Boughen would get the call.

  19. The only thing professional about UK Speedway is those riders who only ride Speedway for a living... The non riding aspect of the sport wouldnt even pass as semi professional... Even many amateur leagues in other sports would be offended to be measured against UK Speedway's operating model and rules and regulations' implementation...

  20. Perhaps you consider all the various things that have happened this and in previous seasons this just confirms how unprofessional speedway actually is and badly managed and administrated.

  21. How can it be that of the two clubs contesting the League Championship play--off:- Belle Vue have staged 10 Premiership matches, 7 National League matches, 2 League Cup matches, 2 play-off ties, The Peter Craven Trophy, The British Final, (and a half of a British Final), and will still be staging a Premiership Pairs round. but Shefiield have only staged 9 premiership matches, 2 League Cup matches and 2 play-off ties?

  22. A two month heatwave in summer and a chance of people actually going to watch and there was hardly any meetings at my club. As far as I’m aware that was the same at other clubs in the league as well, it just screams of amateur now when are in this situation in late October

  30. I took a walk past the Beaumont Park this evening & the gates were open. Someone was there driving a tractor with the bowser on sucking the water out the drains & off the track. The track was very very wet with big puddles & like a sludge bath . With more rain forecast till around 9pm tomorrow & a dry but cloudy day Saturday there is not much to help the track dry , I think the damage may already be done for Leicester’s track & Saturday will get called off due to an unfit track.

  31. To add some additional interest, could the format for the Leicester v Poole v Leicester Jubilee match ups be altered in some way? If it’s to be another 7 v 7 standard meeting, why not allow two tacticals or try the Polish/Swedish formulae or introduce two or three handicap races. Something to add interest and get folks talking.

  32. British Champion signing for a full season at Birmingham? Newcastle spending money they obviously didnt have on repairing a track to continue the season with a No1 and his sidekick No7 who was out of his depth? An abandoned British Final resulting in a rider being nominated to do the British GP ? BV signing a rider, who previously declined to ride in his home country's league, for THREE matches in a bid to win silverware? Biggest jokes though are BSPA and SCB.

  44. Free tickets were around in 2018, and *maybe* 2019, but not since then. The point wasn’t to make the crowd look bigger, it was to entice people in, in the hope they’d pay to come back. Glasgow we’re not break even pre-COVID. The Facennas openly said they were making six figure losses. They were prepared to take some losses as they see it as giving to the community to some extent, but ultimately they are businessmen and they want the club’s finances to be sustainable in the medium term. I would guess they are still absorbing substantial losses. In terms of crowd, I think the figures people are quoting are inflated in line with energy prices. The stand might be able to fit 400 people, but I have never counted 400 people at a Tigers match. The shed may fit 150 people, but I’ve never counted 150 people there. My best estimates from counting at the last match I was at are around 150 in the stand, 150 under the stand and in the shed, and maybe 150 on the back straight. An extra 300 adults through the doors per match would make about £75k extra ticket office revenue over a 14 match home season, so it’s a big gap.
