i was involved at Poole last season, found everyone at the club really welcoming and friendly, and seeing how things were done there i can see why they're winners7 points

Speedway would be a 'duller' sport without Poole IMO.... Poole set the bar and 'we' (other clubs) have to try and aspire to it.... It's a beautiful part of the country too. I admire their winning mentality.... We all want to beat Poole ...it's healthy competition IMO!7 points

If only he'd had British grandparents last year he could have come in on a 2 point average like Connor Bailey4 points

Sure, a part of it is definitely envy. Who wouldn't want to win the trophies that Poole have over the last 20 years or so? But a big part of it is also the way the club and the fans conduct themselves. There are plenty of examples of successful teams in sports that weren't universally hated because they (and their fans) acted with respect. (I'm not saying every Poole fan is like this, there are some good eggs on here - you know who you are)4 points

But why are they not doing the same for every other rider then? Just these three? Is it about the war or isn’t it? If they’re continuing to pontificate about the war in the Ukraine then they shouldn’t be allowing them to ride in Poland either should they? This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.3 points

Hopefully now these people that think they are in the know about Emil coming over here can move on and start some other rumour.3 points

The Northern Junior League will once again run in 2023 ( 14 continuous years ? ) and the good news is that both Workington and Glasgow will be re-entering make it a six team league once again. Teams competing ; Glasgow Armadale West Lothian ( based at Edinburgh ) Workington Berwick Redcar There will be no ‘ Teesside ‘ team this year due to lack of 125cc riders. The NJL AGM has decided that due to a lack of new riders being available riders from the NDL with an average of 5 or below will be allowed to compete in the NJL as long as their 500 partner is not an NDL declared rider , or a rider with an average of 3 or below in the NDL can be used with a non NDL rider. This is aimed at giving current NDL riders extra track time . Squads will be named before the season commences.2 points

Don't think it's very good at all, but there may be at least some entertaining, close home meetings (maybe not against Glasgow, Poole or Redcar lol) there are some real triers in the team, Alfie Bowtell, James Wright and Stefan Nielsen. Having said all of that, I think the team looks awful overall and I really don't understand why there's so much hype behind James Pearson either, aye he's young and decent, but Darcy Ward comparisons are insulting to Darcy imo, he was SO much better Oh and no way will Nick keep his 10 point average lol2 points

I was at that meeting, can remember Wilkie doing just that, the Lynn fans in the stand were all jeering him but he'd made his mind up about having his say, as you say, typical Wilkie. I think it was a bank holiday lunch time meeting with a return at Hyde Rd later, which meant a fair old dash back.2 points

Been stated by you many times, don't remember many others stating the league doesn't matter and nobody cares.2 points
-
Exactly this... they can then say well we don't want to sign you anymore so go ride for Ipswich.... i highly doubt Emil would do that!! Doesn't matter who is involved Torun don't have to put him in the team!! Why should they not be allowed to protect there asset? There not banning him from riding over here there saying if you do we wont select you so its your choice...2 points

Probably similar crowd levels, but paying less out at championship level, so the fords make more money??2 points

Poole are disliked through envy. The big green eyed monster. Anyone but Poole. Heard it virtually every season for the last 20 years.2 points

Some picture that mind... all they have done is cropped the number from across the bottom of it eh... A think the saying is "The lad definitely has a face for radio" Regards THJ2 points

Agreed, he averaged 9 in six seasons for different clubs. If he gets an injury free run I think a nine point average is very achievable. 10... Nope - think that will be Masters and Douglas (if he has what we had under him last year).1 point
-
Why? Existing and lapsed fans either love him or dislike him. Can't see why he's even attempting a comeback after such a horrible injury, so adding extra fixtures with random hops over the North Sea wouldn't be of any benefit.1 point

Would you say the team is stronger than it was last year? do you think Berwicks team are going to win the league with the team they have? do you think Edinburgh will win the league when pretty much they’ve swapped Masters for Cook and Serjent for Bickley? Were fortunate to have them come to the tapes again or otherwise our season would be even less meetings than it already is.1 point

The story is rather more complex than that but yes, the mov to weekday racing delivered the killer blow. Getting the raceday right is vital now. I hope the Comets' choice works.1 point

You are misreading my post or I've worded it wrongly. Chris Holder said he will only ride for Poole if/when they are in the Premiership! Riding for anyone else in the meantime is fine. You never know if it is to be Poole in Premiership in 2024, - and that is by no means certain - he may use this year to lower his average??1 point
-
No offence to Matej, he's one of my all time favourite riders... BUT he is no replacement for Emil, not anymore Would Torun really want to make themselves weaker just for some petty contract squabble? Especially considering they haven't got a very deep squad already...1 point

Good luck with Thermohome!!!! Will you be looking forward to solar power at Brummies stadium?1 point

Tbf to Kemp he was unlucky at Sheffield, he was signed as a reserve but as the rest of the team struggled he moved up into the main body of the team way to early and then found it hard riding at number 2 thereafter which knocked his confidence somewhat.1 point

PC mentions in his book the occasion that Alan Wilkinson took issue over a referee's decision at King's Lynn after an incident with Ian Turner and stormed up the ladder (after first slipping up to the cheers of the crowd!) to the ref's box to have it out with him! Got that episode on DVD...a harsh exclusion in my opinion. Typical "Wilkie" robust pass but not worthy of being thrown out of the race.1 point

5 Stand alone meetings would have been 6 but the meeting against Leicester Cubs was rained off and rearranged as part of a doubleheader.1 point

...I dunno Tony but the example I gave regarding Arne Pander who visited Cowley on a one-off which enticed a "lost fan" to return to the sport wasn't a bad return in monetary terms?1 point

I hope your right Rob! Didn't Rye House close mainly because a successful, well supported Saturday night operation was forced to move to midweek racing because of the dreaded set racenights for the top flight? - Same reason why Poole now reside in the 2nd tier when they are one of the biggest clubs in the Country and should really be in the top flight! I'm convinced that Rye House speedway running on a Saturday night would again be a viable well supported operation if it can be re opened! Good luck to the new Workington speedway set up at Northside. In this day and age of diminishing crowds, less greyhound stadiums around and excessive rental demands from existing stadium landlords, the Northside blueprint of owning your land and building it up into a bonafide stadium as and when funds allow seems the only way to open new speedway tracks. - Although obviously I hope Rye House speedway will be an exception to the rule as well as Eastbourne, Kent and Coventry!1 point

I'd certainly have used Kemp ahead of Mulford at Belle Vue. While Mulford is promising he's still only a 2.00 Champ rider, compared to Kemp being 5+1 point

And therein lies the problem with diluting the points limit again. Improve your average lose your place it is just a ridiculous scenario, what other sport penalises for improvement.1 point

It works both ways... Fans may not want riders back, but riders may want to be "essential" somewhere else the following year as their average could belie their true capabilities.. A rider who is a "seven point man all day long" on a five point average, (or lower), could name his own price I would think... You could also have teams definitely wanting "underperforming" riders back next season if two or three points lower than their "real capability"... If a couple of riders drop out of HL positions to SS and get replaced with two new HL's then a team can be transformed... 10 matches far too few to be realistic and far too easy to manipulate...1 point
-
They've left themselves wide open for average manipulation, especially the top 2 teams who are likely to have already confirmed Play-Off qualification by the end of June. If most top rider's are paid per meeting rather than by points, then we could see someone like (for example) Doyle dropping to a 6 average pretty quickly. This season (as some are already saying) looks to be the most competitive for years, yet it could turn into a complete farce.1 point

Can't wait to come and watch this season when I'm free . Them lads have done an amazing job.1 point

I have noticed that by far the most popular Track on which to watch Speedway Racing seems to have been Belle Vue - Hyde Road. Certainly it was the best Track for Racing that I ever visited. Let's just hope that if they can get this new Stadium built that the Track will be as good as Hyde Road - if it is - I'm sure the Crowds will come flocking back. There was something about Hyde Road - it was maybe the atmosphere when it was full. Aahhhh!! Happy Memories and Happy Days!! Sad those days are gone now.1 point
