I think this Basso and Vissing stuff is a red herring as they looked no weaker with the two guests. They made a call on the weather and got it wrong, it happens. Lots of noise coming from one or two people but at least Glasgow don't rip people off who decide on the day to attend a meeting.4 points

Wasn't the Danish Final. It was quarter or semi, took place at Glumso, if it wasn't rained off (due to a forecast of light showers) Sorry I had to have a dig3 points

I saw an interview during the week saying he only had 1 bike at Plymouth? I think it was, ended up using Complin's bike the night after too.3 points

BBC weather was sold off to the highest bidder a few years ago and is now run by a bloke who just looks out his window and takes a guess! About as reliable as a Bears second string! (Only joking lads). At the track now and it’s dry but threatening to rain. Track looks great. Edit: now watering the track but no parade.3 points

£24 for double headers last year? That’s a hell of a price hike. Wouldn’t be so bad if there was someone like Bomber racing, worth the admission alone when he missed the gate. This lot doesn’t entertain3 points

Yesterday was only a minor problem for Glasgow and their supporters. However a repeat of the Berwick abandonment would have caused far greater damage. Another mid meeting postponement resulting in fans having paid £32 for just 12 heats racing or if it went to heat ten then £36 for 16 races. It was a chance the promotion were right not to take.3 points

I can understand it for indoor events but for outdoor events that are dependent on the weather I don't agree with it. Interesting to see how it has affected numbers.3 points

Riders are self employed. Being a club ‘ asset ‘ means nothing other than the owning club can charge another club a loan fee, a fee hundred quid, if he’s used by another club. As a self employed rider he will look for the best deal he can get , anywhere !, the rider will talk to other promoters before the season has ended to sound out his options for the next season. Doesn’t matter if his parent club want him, he will still go where he wants as the asset system has no legal standing and is only there so that the BSPL can reclaim some money if a club folds by ‘selling on’ that asset. Promoters do exactly the same, sound out a rider before ‘officially’ approaching his owning club. There is a policy, it is ignored by all except brand new promoters till they have learnt the game. Redcar have had a number of new promoters since the Havelock days and each has had to learn the hard way how the inner workings of the sport actually function. Yes, they have been hard done by on a number of occasions by the ‘old school’ who run the sport but you calling Oxford promoters names isn’t on, they did what is good for their business and what all other promoters do, nothing more. Just be thankful you have a club to support who have a fantastic race track and an enthusiastic management team.3 points

Exactly how I started going to Speedway, the freebie 2nd half and it wasn't 1 second half and I was in, like you said it was 4 or 5 and then the odd paid full match and then got hooked from there2 points

Given the strength of the reserves in the League they should have took another 2 pointer and kept Thompson,if that was possible.IMO2 points

I rest my case with the decisions made by the Scunthorpe Promotion & as I said before, 1 change was required but Rome wasn't built in a day. Glasgow next week not an easy test to resolve things but I am still gutted & disappointed.2 points

It’s obvious this situation has caused you extreme personal torment to still be going on about it. I doubt very much though, that anyone else is as greatly concerned and I also doubt that it will have any noticeable bearing on Glasgow attendances. Time to move away from this as it’s now becoming very boring.2 points

Don’t know where you get this will greatly hurt Glasgow Speedway.Speedway is down to rock bottom regarding crowd levels at most tracks. These supporters will turn up at the next Glasgow meeting.Lack of weekly fixtures is a bigger issue in the sport.2 points

£30 a head poorer. I’ll be honest, if I didn’t have a season pass I’d be thinking twice before attending2 points

And that insight is based on what ESP you have no idea what their decision was based on. Having a rant on here didn’t change the decision to call it off so as you seem in the know what was it based on if you can share this with us.2 points

Again, Lawson and Starke for basso and vissing made Glasgow no weaker. It turned out to be the wrong decision but as has been said before there was a huge kick up after the Berwick meeting getting £4 back. When you're charging what is now a premium price you need to make sure you're putting on a 1st class product. Hindsight is a wonderful thing2 points

Rain offs in speedway are part and parcel of the sport. What isn't is calling off a meeting for another reason, and then using predicted very light rain as a very poor excuse. After yesterday's shenanigans, you'll be lucky if more than a handful of away supporters bothering to make the trip to Ashfield, as the Glasgow promotion seem to treat away supporters with contempt. Keep on defending the indefensible, but when there isn't a Glasgow Speedway any more, you might start to wonder why you didn't ask more questions.2 points

The upset over the Berwick abandonment was down to the really poor discount given. While ithe terms are clearly laid down, they are a huge rip off and for many supporters this was the first time they have been invoked. This needs to be reviewed nationally for next year. Leicester were determined not to race that night though the track staff felt sure they could have sorted the track. It was down to them and there was no reason for the promotion to have called the meeting off earlier in the day The Poole abandonment was down to the Glasgow promotion who simply didn't like the way the meeting was going and pushed for an abandonment. Possibly this was why they offered a full refund, something of a precedent that set supporter expectations which were dashed after the Berwick call off. Surely home fans don't need to be told of call offs until early afternoon, so you can let things ride until then to see how the weather is going to turn out. Sadly away fans are becoming a dying breed with the non refundable costs incurred for rained off meetings.2 points

I read all of this, then this week in the speedway star a half page feature on the British amateur league, all being run at scunthorpe. It's using several NDL riders plus some unattached riders. Made up and ghost teams, Not that different to IOW, but hey, who runs scunthorpe?2 points

I don’t think they called it off for fun. The track workers were preparing all week. But they have been bitten hate by more than one cancellation in recent times after the meeting has started and there is a sense they get attacked whatever they do. They got dog’s abuse for the Berwick match, which no one saw coming. They got it in the neck when Leicester were in town, Newcastle the previous year (maybe it was pre-pandemic - I don’t remember now), I think too. Poole in the playoffs was a mess too. None of those issues were caused by the promotion. They get more abuse if they cancel once people turn up, than by cancelling ahead of time, so I can see why they do it. Their priority is always going to be to try not to mess around the home fans, or riders. Any given week, there might be 500 people. Almost all of them most weeks, are there for the Tigers. You can’t please everyone, but if you piss off all the home fans, you can’t make even a vaguely sustainable club.2 points

There was a certain irony in that the meeting I wasn't originally planning to go to today, and the one where I ended up got rained off, while the one I was originally planning to go to could have taken place! But at least Scunny put in every effort to stage their meetings - they will only call it off early in the day if the weather is truly dire. It means you build up a level of trust. Of course, there's still the odd wasted journey, but that's all part of speedway. On the other hand, while I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face and miss Glasgow v Oxford when it's re-staged, my plans to do Glasgow v Scunny the day before Workington v Oxford have been shelved today. What's the point in booking days off work, booking hotels, etc, when the Glasgow make no effort to put on meetings and seem to call them off due to rider availability rather than the weather? Sadly, I've lost all faith in the Glasgow management after today's shenanigans. I used to think they are a shot in the arm for British Speedway, but sadly no more.2 points

As Ive stated, you have absolutely no idea how this sport has been run for donkeys years, and you moaning about it isn’t going to change things. I pay my money , home and away and have done since 1972 , nothings changed in all that time when it comes to the running of the sport.2 points

Fully agree with this but that is where the commonality should have stopped - the management teams at both tracks should have been completely separate. Allit should have been at Lynn or Peterboro - not both - and preferably Peterboro so he was out of our hair Anyone know if the pit gate is now 'fixed' ......2 points

All for it. Alternate between the GP's one year and the next a Wembley one off Final. Stop things getting stale, which for me the GPs have. I'd certainly do Wembley, whereas i couldn't be bothered with Cardiff. Especially now it has gone downhill in a big way. Would hopefully give the sport a boost just when it needs it most2 points

sneak???? that is a 12 point swing! Not even a last heat decider! sneak win is 47-43 or 46-44!2 points

I'd be front of the queue for tickets. Speedway back in London even if it is only one meeting would be brilliant and Wembley is accessible by public transport. We had West Ham, Hackney, Wimbledon, Wembley, White City etc and now we have nothing. It makes my blood boil not everyone wants to go to shopping centres or cinemas etc. People moan about the noise of bikes so planners get an easy run to get stadiums get shut down then they build houses next to motorways, I suppose motorways aren't noisy. Back to the point in question "bring speedway back to Wembley" i'll be there.2 points
