I am hoping to attend this el classic but unfortunately this morning I was informed my drive gates have been damaged possibly caused by the postman slamming them shut. I’ve found the damage and luckily it’s a part which can be replaced. EBay doesn’t stock the part but I found it online at gullible parts and fibs emporium. hopefully the part will come in time to enable me to part with my hard earned money to line blusters pocket. I’ll keep you updated6 points

Where to start....well what a fantastic return to Speedway at Workington on Saturday afternoon. The crowd estimated to be around 2500 was the best tribute of all that could be given to the management team, staff and riders of Workington Speedway, thank you to everyone that attended including many that had traveled some distance from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Berwick etc. A win for the Comets on track was the icing on the cake with all the lads chipping in with points for a great team performance. The organisation of the entrance to the stadium, car park marshaling and other stadium officials was exemplary . The track stood up fairy well to the afternoon sun but was breaking a little up later in the meeting , hopefully the track will bed in better after a few weeks. Facilities for food and drink were very good, better than some clubs have put on for major meetings in the Championship. Hopefully the Cumbrian people will support the new venture in good numbers to help the club move forward in the coming years. Oh, can fans use the bins provided please for their rubbish, thank you. Once again thank you to Andrew and his hard working team for bring Speedway back to the town.4 points

Some excellent points here, IMHO. The quality of the landscaping, viewing, access points layout, high stewarding level etc are all small but significant details that shout "long-term project". The track itself is a masterpiece. I don't think you need a lot of passing in a speedway meeting -- but you do need the threat of it, inside and out, and this circuit has it in spades. Steve Lawson's mantra has been the avoidance of pinch points, to let the action flow, and frequently you'd see four riders all confidently choosing different approaches to the corners rather than queue up behind each other on the one line. And if you go right out beyond map and compass territory, to the steeply banked land of the brave where the white line is in the next postcode and you have to steel yourself to keep it wound on, you reap a fabulous dividend of momentum. Bailey in heat 10 (to my strangled comment of "where's he going?") and Sam McGurk later both did it and promptly rocketed past opponents on the back straight. So, a day of triumph and great promise. But it's a promise that can only be fulfilled with public support at the entrance gate. The likes of the hobbit, 520-mile round trip, and I (420) are not going to be regulars at every fixture. Next week's crowd obviously won't match that of the opening day. But I do hope that speedway fans locally, amidst the cost of living crisis that's affected so many people around the country, feel able to turn over their hard-earned cash and help make the venture thrive.3 points

Looking forward to this. On paper Tigers should qualify ok but a few years ago Scunthorpe surprised us all by winning at Ashfield. Ryan Douglas will do well and Simon Lambert always gives 100%. I've been impressed by Connor Mountain and I can see him getting extra rides. However, the Tigers don't have any weak links and in the end it should be a comfortable win for the home side.2 points

Not sure why he isnt in the top league in Poland.. Much better than several Poles, and non Poles, who are.. Always been a bit of box office about this lad.. Love watching him ride...2 points

Another sleepless night tonight…excitement is really starting to build for this one! Richard Lawson and Sam Hogan guesting as well, almost too good to be true2 points

There is absolutely no obligation whatsoever for a rider to accept a guest booking, some riders who are young in their careers have day jobs too so getting time off for a guest booking can be a challenge. Please don't assume that a rider is available for a guest booking just because that rider is not riding anywhere that day and heaven forbid that Keith is blooding one of his younger assets by giving him track time at this level.2 points

We had an excellent visit to Workington on Saturday (including John’s Plaice on the way home) and wish everyone the best of luck for its continued success. The setup is superb and will be the envy of many folks (especially us Edinburgh fans). The track held up so well especially given the heat. We expected a dust bowl but it was kept to a minimum. Plenty toilets & food outlets available and perfect viewing from above the track Looking forward to coming back2 points

Is he in the GB U23 team thingy that Anders Rowe is also in and is missing for Poole?2 points

I'm more than happy to be proved wrong, but , noting that the regs you posted above says (except FIM Speedway Grand Prix world championship series) can you show the actual regulation that says a race cannot be awarded. I can't see it in my copy.2 points

It often contains some interesting stuff, but also too much along the lines of "actor Kieron who once played third drinker in Hollyoaks bar scene said 'I might go to a speedway meeting 'cos my grandpa used to go and talked about it all the time' " type stories2 points

We had a fantastic day . Thank you words Can’t quantify just how impressed we were by what had been achieved. So much space, so much potential snd most importantly, the work done has been done to a very high standard snd using quality materials. Attention to detail including the landscaping snd tree planting, shows a promotional to team not afraid to spend money. the pits are the biggest I’ve ever seen!!! the track shows just what can be achieved on a blank canvas. Eat your hearts out Leicester, this is what you could snd should have done !!! To be honest, the track is too good for national league riders to fully exploit. Just wait until you see the top guys racing on this track which has the potential to be the best race track on the country. i think you missed a trick by not charging for car parking. no one would object to paying £1 / £2 to park the car snd all revenue helps i wish you every success for the future. Everyone connected with getting this far should be proud of themselves I’d strongly urge all fans to get there snd watch a meeting . You won’t be disappointed Csnt wait until you are in our league do thst I csn watch the Brummies up there. a fantastic day, well worth the 500+ mile round trip2 points

Is Kinsley a temporary signing? I thought his average was too high to guest for Killeen EDIT I've just read Kinsley is a temp signing1 point

Francis - Would be a brilliant signing probably the best under 19 rider in the world outside of Poland at the moment.1 point

Still no number 1 used all season as a guest. Cheap cheap cheap Sam Hagon wow just close the pit door Another from the Allit black book1 point

Despite the large turnout, it didn't feel cramped or uncomfortable to watch. The bowl set-up, looking down on the action, works a treat and being able to watch from any point round about three-quarters of the track helps spread everyone out. It's an absolute gem; I feel sure you'll love it.1 point

When you have riders in their 50's and 60's racing - and still competing at the "top" level, I think that's a sign how few promising youngsters are coming through...1 point

For once you are right here ... the presenter at Perry Barr stands on the wrong side of the tapes with his nose in his programme. I once suggested that he should be sent to Wolves to see how Porky works the crowd, generating atmosphere. Or get Porky himself over here! I know a lot of people don't like him, but he is very effective; we need someone like that.1 point

Holder is easily capable of getting 6 at Monmore so no gain from having Morris.Howarth was a big loss. Musielak was terrific though, what a rider, if only more like him would ride here.1 point

Yeah, that was quality. The 250s provided a few good races. There were a few unrefined but decent riders there, which is exactly what you want to see.1 point

Yes, I think it was Les Owen who was the other rider involved in that crash. Ironically Owen later had a crash which left him paralysed down one side and with brain injuries and short term memory loss.1 point

Yeah, well he wasn't really around for that long, and of course, we didn't have all the footage accessible back then. Sorry to say, most of the others were pre-Lohmann, or just too poor to receive any coverage! At least Klaus was decent...1 point

Unfortunately, we couldn't find any decent available footage of Klaus (or the others you mention), otherwise he would be on the DVD. Nice bloke - it was a pleasure to meet him in Denmark for an interview for our Memories of Halifax Speedway DVD.1 point

Fantastic to have competitive Speedway back at Worky. The delight delight on the faces of the long term fans was plain to see. Thank you to all members of the wider Speedway family who made the journey, I'm sure every one of you help make it an even more special day for Andrew, Steve and the rest of the team who have worked tirelessly to make it happen. The weather was the icing on the cake. Nice to get the new era off to a winning start. Some fans not used to this level of speedway may well have been surprised with the general high quality of racing but these young men are obviously very comfortable and accomplished on the bike. All square after 7 heats at 21 all Comets took control of the second half of the meeting with 4 5-1's not conceding another heat advantage and the like of Sam McGurk, Connor Bailey, Ace Pjiper and Elliot Kelly gave the fans a glimpse of the competitive racers they are. Can't wait for next week. UTC !!!1 point
