  1. Actually they don't if they haven't negotiated in good faith and are trying to try to get out of their responsibilities within the local plan and LP30. That interestingly came up on Bratters interview on BBC Radio Cambs after the PCC spokesman said that added infrastructure costs were the responsibility of the developer as stated in the local plan. Surprisingly the presenter was interested by that and said that they need to look at whether the same applies to LP30? Fengate is the talking horse for that new track, as it has been for 20 years. Whether that was ever reality, or how far it got depends on who you speak to. At the end of the day though, LP30 specifies a like for like replacement either at the EoES or elsewhere. If AEPG wish to kick us out then that cost is down to them and their opposition to LP30 when it ever appears needs to be challenged. I agree that we have come to the party late but initially the club said that it would need a change of circumstances and one assumes that they tried their best and only finally conceded defeat for the reason in the first sentence. As Bratters said, we couldn't do much until AEPG played their hand, which they now have, and the response has been good but it needs to be kept going and ramped up. A 10 year vision of developers and the usual artists' impression of a development that the Peterborough public don't want and destroys an existing culture, leisure, tourism & community facility is good ammunition for the fight we potentially face unless common sense prevails.

  2. Because they want to be seen as someone in the know. We chatted with Artem then watched him do some practice laps. Have video evidence too for the doubters

  3. I don't know why people just have to lie about things(Siggytastic). This sort of things just starts the negative rumours going and sets this forum into overdrive, all because one person has to spout Bull$h!t

  5. The unviable really needs to be shot down. How many sports clubs are profitable? Just about every sports club gets a benefactor’s money thrown at them. That doesn’t mean they should be built on.

  7. As a rule of thumb if there is some concern over the weather and Rory is due to ride I’ll not bother to leave home. It’s a stance that has saved me a lot of time, effort and money over the years.

  8. Some people actually follow through with it when they say they’re fed up of the dross that’s served up and are going to walk away. Doesn’t mean they’re not fans of the sport, but of how it is run. I’m a Speedway fan but it would take a lot to get me to a domestic meeting these days. Doesn’t mean I don’t follow it. I just refuse to hand over my money because doing so tells the people running the clubs they’re doing a good enough job. They’re not. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Albert Einstein.

  9. AEPG have prepared a document about the loss of the speedway site as it relates to the Local Plan and that has been given to the Council apparently. Mick and I have seem their summary which isn't that good or impossible to argue against. I can't say more than that. I guess that their full document will appear publically at some point? The local paper today conveniently fails to mention AEPG & PCC's responsibility under LP30 so perhaps best to keep banging that drum and then deal with how AEPG think they've dodged it.

  12. Riders were simon Lambert, Conor Mountain , Danyon Hume, Nathan Ablitt, Drew Kemp, Jordan Jenkins ,Ashton Boughen and Luke Harrison so 4 scunthorpe riders and a scunthorpe born rider in the 8 wonder I who could of had a big say in the selection .

  13. Yup, that will be part of their argument. They really haven't thought it through or consulted anyone with that intelligence and understanding. It's a community facility for the city of Peterborough and such facilities and operations rarely make a profit and need additional funding. The EoES could be a multi function entertainment complex incorporating Peterborough Speedway (and Bratters gave some examples of how in his first radio appearance) and used all year round for the benefit of the whole city. Somehow a 10 year concrete vision at the expense of one of the city's major Culture, Leisure, Tourism and Community facilities won the day, funny old word innit!

  14. I understand your point, but if your partner cheated on you repeatedly and generally treated you awfully would you walk away or keep going back just because you love them? It’s a similar principle. Looking at the crowds the sport attracts these days I’d say more people have taken the same action I have than not. To get to a meeting anywhere it would take a two hour journey for me, if Rye House were still running perhaps I’d think differently. I get my fix these day at GPs or through TV meetings that are part of a subscription I already pay for. Fair play haha! Far from negative. Just realistic and don’t like to see a sport I love being run in to the ground. Plenty of fans out there like me who could be attracted back, not much being done to do so.

  15. I find it amazing that somebody would not hand over money to pay for something they enjoy just to make a point. Hate to say it, but it's not going to change just because you stopped going. Enjoy your life, and do the things you enjoy. If there's no speedway in this country in 10/20 years, you'll end up regretting it I'm sure. But each to their own.

  16. I'll happily take Panthers on a -8 to -10 Handicap tonight if offered. Think Stevie will have one eye on Cardiff, Schlein won't like the track if it's wet and Masters' form has dipped in recent weeks.

  17. I'll be heading down to the Showground tonight to watch the last ever meeting between these two clubs despite having a BSN season pass. Panthers to win this one comfortably but Douglas to put on his usual classy showing around Peterborough.

  18. Loram rode in the British League for Hackney in 1987 when 16. He then had two years at National League level in 88/89 with Hackney & Ipswich before returning to the British League full time at Lynn.

  22. The play-offs should be starting at the beginning of September and for the top four teams only. Or better yet, the top team should be crowned league champions after all fixtures are completed. Six teams qualifying for the play-offs in a nine team league is ridiculous. Only just pipped in the stupidity stakes by four of the seven Premiership sides qualifying for the play-offs in that league. The current system almost renders most of the racing pointless across the season as everyone gets a medal for competing. And you have a situation where a team deep in the bottom half of the table can somehow be crowned champions.

  25. Blame the promoters for that and the governing authorities.. people pay through the gate, they raise money for Ben fund, used to be collected from the crowd back in the day, people give up their time to help in the off season etc.. sponsor a rider.. and so on. You can’t expect people to keep stepping up when the general consensus is the promoters don’t.

  28. Was talking to a Peterborough supporter at the recent Fenland Flyer grasstrack meeting at Woodwalton, Cambridgeshire. He said most fans are resigned to the end of speedway at the Showground, and indicated the promotion wasn't bothered about continuing - there or anywhere else in the area.

  29. Sad news. In my mind, Dennis was the Halifax team manager, at least in my early seasons watching the Dukes. Remember his garage, at Denholme, on a sharp bend in the Halifax-Keighley road.

  32. Johnnybegood, you will be pleased to know that at the end of the year I will be closing my account on here, for information I don't drink beer and stick with lager and also my life is my concern and not sad but I am always interested in what is happening with the sport. I am sorry to hear that Wolverhampton is closing at the end of the year since it was opened at the same time as Brough Park and the track layout was an exact copy of our track. Bob

  38. There's no pressure, we already know we're highly unlikely to finish top so quite happy with 2nd to be honest. Also highly likely Ipswich will finish 4th and that would be tough for us as all their riders are good around Monmore. We'll leave them for you to deal with.

  41. Nonsense - it’s sport and it’s a competition. Sheffield have made changes to make sure they are as competitive as they deem that they can be. That goes for any job in the UK. If somebody isn’t performing as they should, they don’t have a god given right to keep that job over a foreigner because of their nationality. That is irrelevant if they aren’t meeting the required standards.

  42. I think with the huge merry go round of riders this season, that it has to be up there with one of the most ridiculous seasons ever. Harris getting the chop from Leicester, then moaning about it like a child and then guesting for them a month later is absolutely outrageous. It really is no wonder that nobody within the sport takes it seriously anymore. A s**t show of the highest order.

  45. I'm afraid this sums up this forum - Cardiff is usually the best chance that Speedway has for mainstream coverage and publicity. The city becomes a speedway centre for at least a day and people who attend seem to enjoy themselves. Yet, here on the forum, we get 'speedway fans' who can only get joy out of the fact that it might be a failure! 'Only 7500 tickets sold, blue-light tickets to fill the stadium, must be the last one etc etc' - if you're not interested in Cardiff, don't go and don't sit by your keyboard and take your little pot shots, hoping for failure. Start a new forum for just slagging off the sport and congratulate each other on your success if things don't go to plan - just keep it away from here and let's enjoy some positivity. I hope those who are moved to a more expensive area, enjoy it more. I hope that the cameras make the place look packed. I hope some free ticketholders take a new interest in the sport and I hope everyone that goes has a great day of racing and a good time in Cardiff. The demise of the Cardiff weekend has been predicted before - but here we go again.

  46. Sadly, Peterborough and Woverhampton will disappear, at least for the foreseeable. Until Speedway gets real and understands the model doesn't work in the 21st century, speedway will continue to decline and disappear. It needs to reinvent itself, but league racing, in its current format, is dead in the water, in my my opinion.

  47. Speedway in GB needs a total revamp. It’s really just like a Circus Act nowadays , same riders appearing at your track weekly riding for different Teams.( even your own some weeks). One main league ,riders committed to riding in GB(no GP stars taking all the money out the sport).NDL riders as reserves or even in the Team if necessary. No guests except for injury to No1.The standard will drop the racing will not suffer IMO with riders of the same standard racing each other more often than present day (Premiership is 2 standards in 1 Team).Rearranging fixtures will become more easy.Teams riding on what night suits the Club.It just cant go on like this if it too survive.(hard hat on). ps the NDL proves you only need riders of the same standard to provide entertaining racing.
