Peter Facenna was on the No Brakes No Fear podcast this week (with Bomber and Lee), and he confirmed the club is looking to stay in the Championship. They want to retain the Friday race night because it works well, and they're not convinced it would work commercially to go up to the Premiership. The reality is that there is no clear direction, hence teams can pick and choose what level to race in, as and when it suits them.. Those in the top flight deserve the TV money as they are the ones that get covered.. Unfortunately, more teams in the top league would dilute that money, therefore it isn't viable for many teams to even consider it.. What we have is hanging on by a thread if you use the last ten years worth of track closures and defections as a barometer of the next decade to come... Maybe now Phil Morris has a full season (and pre season), he can make a fundamental difference.. Without a clear generic growth plan for the sport as a whole though, it will not work.. Sheffield and Glasgow won their respective leagues but it has hardly raised a ripple of publicity nationally... But, next year, if nothing changes, every track will no doubt, once again, try and ensure they can manipulate success by using some ill conceived, ambiguously written regulation that let's them have some success.. Whilst, all the while, diluting any kudos in winning, and preventing wider mainstream coverage, by their very insular focused actions.. UK Speedway sadly thinks small time, insular, and short term, and that isn't ever going to grow it organically, generically and nationally... Putting an extra 200 on one tracks gate due to their "success" really isn't progress.. Putting 200 on every track, however small that still may be, is... And may start some momentum for further growth..2 points

The TV money goes to the clubs that feature on TV, that’s simple enough. The SCB/ BSPL have no interest in the youth or they wouldn’t have withdrawn the funding in the first place. Godfrey should shoulder SOME of the blame, he presides over the whole shambles after all.2 points

dont knock the line up sp many have said they wouldnt go to watch nationla league riders but weve seen some much better racing at new track than many others ive been to over all leagues2 points

I'm sure they do add some more bums on seats but sadly not enough to be able to invest anything back into a club, and when they leave, the clubs are back to square one again. The same happened years ago with the Sky money, pretty much everything went to the riders and nothing put aside for track prep, upgraded facilities or even the chance to own your own track. Sadly, promoters can't see further than the end of their nose whilst riders get daft deals that will ultimately be their own downfall when there's nobody left to ride for. It's just bad economics all round really.2 points

Getting proof of attendance at any speedway meeting is like counting hens teeth You'd have the same issue trying to prove my claim isnt true They aren't the saviours although they would have more chance of being so if it weren't for to the woeful way the sport is administrated As for them draining the money I don't agree. That largely comes from TV and individual sponsors who in general wouldn't put that money in for a run of the mill alternative2 points

I don't think they are British speedway's saviours at all, the problems run far deeper than that but I'd be astonished if riders like Emil, Doyle, Bewley, Lambert, Tai etc don't get extra bums on seats when they are in town. As a general point though Id agree that telly money has been utterly squandered since 1999.2 points

Glasgow have had numerous years to take the jump up to the Premiership, when conditions were more favourable to do so. Why would they take the jump now when its a complete shambles in the Premiership. Probably a case of the Premiership needing Glasgow rather than Glasgow needing the Premiership.2 points

Ok I'll take your bet, please provide proof to back up your statement that Emil is adding 200 to every track he's rode at this Season? There's this mistaken belief that the "Big Names" are British Speedways savours...yet to see it working as all they're doing is taking the big pounds out the Sport while they're allowed too.2 points

Even though its protected riders choose where they want to ride they are self employed. With riders choosing a team event they risk a ban from next national league meeting. However because there won't be a national league there's no risk.2 points

The line up for tomorrow which should be the best of the NDLRC is left very watered down, for various reasons, but to me a lot of it stops at Mr Godfrey and the bspa doors !!! This apparently is a protected event, but 2 riders are at scummy, yes some are injured, one I think has returned to Aussie, and probably the others can't be arse@ but seems like the fans have got to put up with a 2nd class event. BUT can all the comets fans and traveling fans come down to support the promotion to show we love our speedway2 points

Have to agree but its important that we support the riders who do turn up and of course the comets management to show them we want our sport to stay.as for belle vue and oxford sending reserves hope they explain why, not a poole fan but i hope godfrey gets stuffed !2 points

Can't disagree but in a sport where you want to advertise your skills at the highest level why compete in a competition that won't exist next year. Even if you aren't aware this is happening 99%of riders are1 point

In talks, yes as the Championship , or NDL if there is one , needs Workington but he has stated quite openly at practice sessions and meetings he is troubled by the costs of team racing and has said it on several occasions that he would just run practice sessions as they make a good profit and possibly some open meetings to put funds back into the account as crowds dwindled towards the end of the season. Hopefully he has changed his mind . After all the time, effort and funds he has put in he is entitled to do what he thinks is best, but upping his wage bill by ten times and not matching that with increasing crowd numbers has got to be a factor.1 point

That he didn't is the biggest regret of my speedway life! I saw his first ever public race at West Ham. It was a special junior match race between him, aged 15, and Barry Thomas, aged 16. Barry won, but I thought Dave looked really classy for a 15 year old having his first race and I said to my friend, "He"ll be world champion one day." But, of course, he never was!1 point

I've heard a lot of people say Monday/midweek is very bad for them. It doesn't make much difference to me, but it does seem to be a big deal to a lot of people. I also have the issue with liking posts. It doesn't seem to work on Android, but is fine on my iPad. No idea why. It's been that way for a few weeks.1 point

One of the things he said on the podcast is that if they went up, they could bring in riders like Tai Woffinden, but it wouldn't necessarily bring in more fans, because people don't know who he is. Only speedway fans know who he is, and most of them already come. But they are working on the training track over the winter, so they're continuing to develop the facilities, and I like their commitment to sensible and sustainable over the lure of a league that carries a lot of risk and not a lot of upside right now.1 point

your right in a few things there few years back you couldnt ride in 3 leagues but use conor baily as example young lad trying hard started the season only workington gave him a place now winning heats for redcar and belle vue is this a example of the ndl doing its job or the other leagues over looking a rider that wants to race whatever level1 point

It's quite laughable that Godfrey and co get the blame regularly. The NDL currently has 3 types of riders, those who shouldn't be riding in it as they are (let's be honest) taking sweeties off the kids to top up their stash, the 2nd batch are those who the are using the League for what it was designed for (Development) the 3rd lot are the self entitled bridgade that believes when they turn 15 they should be paid (They then stay NDL for several years with no progression whilst getting paid for it thinking they don't need to get a job because they are "Professional Speedway Riders) Similarly no no 1 in the PL should be a No 1 in the CL just so they "get enough meetings to make it pay" Only doubling up allowed should be British riders under 24 Fix the Sport, protect the British Youngsters who are progressing and stop the self entitlement.1 point

Sort of Not sure what happened but from watching 70-80 meetings a season prior to the pandemic I simply lost interest on return this season. The straw that broke the camel's back was the appalling BSPA decision to fine Kent Speedway for something that was entirely out of their control and was nothing less than vicious. Workington was, however, always one of my favourite places to visit so - with the bonus of a superb run up through the Dales and the chance of some walking - I did think about coming. That line up pretty much rules it out.1 point

Slightly misinformed there clubs are choosing not to run Ndl rather than it been scrapped. It's been said for a while certain clubs won't run so a league of 4 teams isn't a league it's more a series of challenges. If a club decides its not running there's nothing the Bspl can do they can't force them Think this is why workington and mildenhall have been encouraged to move up .1 point

If it's a case of cough medicine accidentally taken then yes 6 months ban seems ok, but as Speedway doesn't run 12 months a year, a 12 month ban seems more sensible, otherwise someone failing in September gets virtually no punishment, but someone failing in March would practically miss a full season? If it's alcohol or illegal drugs gotta be a 2 year ban imo1 point

It's obviously not going to happen but it is funny that we have this situation with Tarasenko. a) he can't guest because he's on an assessed average in his first season b) he's got an established average for Peterborough so is allowed to guest c) his average fits for Kemp so he's allowed to guest then d) his Peterborough average is too high so he can't guest A rider who simultaneously has an established average, while not having an established average, who is eligible to guest, but also isn't eligible to guest.1 point

What a strange post. Shovlar has been fairly gracious considering, and although he likes a windup, he's hardly pushed the envelope. You've spouted more on here than a thread about your own team losing their respective final - it's odd behaviour. You're - I assume - a grown adult and yet you're wrapped round Shovlar's little finger like a yappy dog whenever he pushes your buttons. As for Richard Lawson, I can't think of a more inoffensive rider. Disliked? Just cause he might have beat one of your team's riders once it doesn't mean he's disliked by everyone else.1 point

Really, seriously. So you don’t rate Bewley, Holder, Lambert, Kubera, Cerniak. And of course Drabik and Smektala still have time to fulfil their potential, then we have the likes of Gusts and others in the 19-22 year old class, did you not see Pederson at Vojens…..no18 in the start list performing more than adequately for a 16/17 year old in a senior GP. The future looks really good to me. If you can’t see the potential then perhaps you looking at the wrong sport……try netball or something.1 point

From a Glasgow perspective, we didn't start our league campaign until the 2nd June. That's two months into the "season". So scrapping the BSN league and starting from the beginning of April wouldn't be an issue. Award the champions of the league the BSN trophy for being the most consistent and successful team throughout the whole season and then top 4 for playoff finals.1 point
