  1. Title favourites? How do you work that out? The maximum amount of points Belle Vue can get is 16.... Leicester already have 13 with four matches left. If the Lion Cubs can't pick up three points from those matches, it'll be a miracle.

  2. I love the way British speedway more or less shuts down in the Summer as they are worried that crowds will be low… then reschedule for October when it’s so cold only 4 men and a dog show up and it gets called off at heat 10. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

  3. Think it’s fair to say all is not well at KL there has been dodgy call offs in fact very dodgy but bit harsh wanting KL expelled from the league I’d have thought losing any club is the last thing the sport needs .

  9. Obviously not according to Lynnboy who lives very much nearer to the Lynn track than you.It may have been able to be run in Lincolnshire. It did rain here in Wisbech at about 4pm for a couple hrs and stopped a while then started again about 8pm.Rain moves in mysterious ways.

  10. https://ipswichwitches.co/raceday-preview-leicester-rowe-motor-oil-premiership-r2-a/ Nicholls in for Doyle no surprises there, but what IS a surprise and a good one from an Ipswich point of view, Dan Thompson isn’t yet ruled out which means the injury isn’t as bad as first feared. That is absolutely massive for our chances at the business end of the season.

  11. So you feel sorry for the King's Lynn fans, but want Buster chucked out.So where does that leave King's Lynn Speedway with no Buster. No Speedway imo,so not really feeling sorry for the Lynn fans.

  13. Makes sense for Cairns, best track in the country, guaranteed spot for next season so no need to worry about averages AND not signing for Leicester means his Dad can be in the pits at his meetings and focus on being promotor when Leicester are running. William looks as promising as Luke Harrison did during his 'breakthrough' period and if he follows on he will be doing alright. Probably the most positive footnote is Belle Vues intention to run in the NDL next season, i just hope there is enough quality in the league to challenge Cairns. and other emerging riders.

  16. No it isn’t, there is nothing in a speedway engine today that wasn’t in a 1930s one the materials are better, unlike other sports which are much vastly more expensive using injection systems and ECUs but as I’ve been banging on for years speedway doesn’t need half the BS that riders use today like the karger ignition which put the price up for no gain for the sport and then the expect the fan to pay for it, on the SON something is only worth as much as folk are prepared to pay for it and clearly the crowd showed it wasn’t worth what discovery think it’s worth, a good indication worth’s at the moment was the speedway auction at Ledbury last week, a lot of the bikes didn’t fetch half what they are worth and this is the case for classic cars too. Speedway needs a reality check to where it stands in society. The SON was despite the weather an exiting well run event and imo was the best sporting event in this country this year but such a shame that nobody saw it

  17. 1965 was the first year of the British League as well as a new Knock Out Cup competition based on football’s F.A. Cup with just one leg and the luck of the draw which team got drawn at home. In that year, one of the Quarter Final matches saw a local derby London tie with West Ham drawn at home to Wimbledon. Before the tie, the two teams appeared to be evenly matched and so the match proved. With one heat to go the scores were level at 45-45. That final heat saw the Wimbledon pair, Olle Nygren and Reg Luckhurst, shoot in to an early lead over West Ham’s Brian Leonard and Norman Hunter and it looked all over for the Hammers when suddenly Luckhurst’s engine blew up resulting in a 3-3 and a tied match at 48-48. Having drawn at West Ham, Wimbledon looked a good bet to take the tie in the replay on their own track. But there was even worse news for West Ham as their top rider, Sverre Harrfeldt, was injured the previous evening at Hackney and unable to take part and their third heat leader, Norman Hunter, was also unable to ride as it was his wedding day! There were no guests allowed so the Hammers had to resort to filling the places of two heat leaders with Tony Clarke, making his racing debut, and a Wimbledon junior, Geoff Hughes. Only Ken McKinlay was a recognized heat leader and, although by now a team regular, it should be remembered that at this time West Ham’s 19 year old Malcolm Simmons was just a reasonable five point average second string who had shown no signs of the great rider he was to become in later years. No-one, not even the West Ham supporters present that afternoon, gave the Hammers much hope. By heat six it looked as though Wimbledon’s superiority was about to assert itself as Wimbledon skipper, the great Olle Nygren. along with the experienced Jim Tebby, took a 5-1 against West Ham’s newcomer, Tony Clarke, and second string, Brian Leonard. The lack of two heat leaders looked as though it was now beginning to tell. But as West Ham were six points in arrears it meant they could use a tactical substitute and they wasted no time bringing in Ken McKinlay for reserve Ray Wickett in the very next heat. The line-up for heat seven was therefore Bob Dugard and Keith Whipp for the Dons, Malcolm Simmons and Ken McKinlay for the Hammers. The young Simmons shot away from the gate with McKinlay behind him and that’s how the heat finished. A 5-1 for West Ham and four points pulled back. Simmons’ time of 66.2 was the fastest of the night. The next heat saw McKinlay out again, this time in a scheduled ride, with old campaigner Reg Trott lining up against Reg Luckhurst and reserve Mike Coomber. Some brilliant team riding by McKinlay and Trott kept Luckhurst behind them and with Coomber falling, it meant another 5-1 to the Hammers and, unbelievably, at the half-way stage, West Ham now found themselves with a two point lead. With Nygren and Tebby lined up against Simmons and Wickett in heat 10 it looked as though the Dons would edge back in to the lead, but, once again, Simmons rose to the occasion and beat Nygren in the second fastest time of the night. Heat 12 saw another astonishing turn of events as Wimbledon’s Bobby Dugard fell and was excluded from the re-run. It was a simple matter for McKinlay and Trott to defeat Whipp and take a 5-1. It was now West Ham who were six points up and it was now Wimbledon who used a tactical substitute as they brought in Nygren for reserve, John Edwards. Unfortunately it did not have the desired effect as, for the second time that night, West Ham’s new hero, the young Malcolm Simmons, beat Nygren, leaving West Ham still six points in front. This time though, Simmons had done it the hard way, coming from behind and taking the Wimbledon captain on the last lap. With just three heats to go, time was running out for Wimbledon and the impossible suddenly looked possible. However, a Nygren and Dugard 5-1 over Trott and Leonard put them back in with a chance and when, in heat 15, Tebby and Coomber pulled off a 4-2 against Clarke and Hughes, the scores, were back to level with one heat to go. The line-up for that final heat saw Keith Whipp and Reg Luckhurst for Wimbledon against Ken McKinlay and Malcolm Simmons for West Ham. The tension around the stadium was palpable. Everyone was holding their breath. A match which at the beginning of the afternoon had seemed likely to be very one-sided had now come down to a last heat decider. To some extent the final race as a race was a bit of a disappointment as Simmons once again flew off from the start and never looked to be in any danger and with McKinlay settling for a steady third place, the match was won by West Ham by 49 points to 47. The small band of Hammers’ supporters who had made the trip across London couldn’t believe what had happened. The hero of the hour was the 19 year old Malcolm Simmons. He had beaten the Wimbledon captain, Olle Nygren, twice and had set the three fastest times of the night. In fact he still wasn’t finished. In the second half scratch race event, the Cheer Leaders’ Trophy, he won the first heat, beating, McKinlay, Luckhurst and Dugard and then went on to win the final, once again beating Nygren. As if that wasn’t enough, a special Handicap race was held with Simmons starting off 20 yards, Nygren off 10 and Trott, Leonard and Tebby off scratch. Yet again, Simmons got the better of Nygren, even with his handicap. As for me, although that match was held 59 years ago I can still remember it as if it were yesterday. In fact I can remember it better than matches I saw last season. It was just such an amazing afternoon. I went along there with a few other Hammers’ supporters expecting a reasonable match but when it was announced just before the meeting started that neither Harrfeldt nor Hunter would be taking part we seriously considered going home. The Wimbledon supporters around us were saying things like, ’You’ll be lucky if you get 20 points’ and ’This is going to be the biggest thrashing of all time.’ Of course we gave back as good as we got but in our hearts we felt they could well be right. But suddenly there was this rider called Malcolm Simmons, who we had seen rise from the ranks of a second halfer at West Ham to a reasonable five point second string but no more, taking on and beating the likes of Olle Nygren and Reg Luckhurst on their own track in the fastest times of the night. He was just phenomenal. As we now know, Simmons went on to become one of Great Britain’s greatest ever riders and runner-up in the 1976 World Championship, World Pairs Champion in 1976, 77 and 78, World Team Champion in 1973, 74, 75 and 77 and British Champion in 1976. He was capped 80 times for England, seven times for the British Lions (touring Australia), five times for Great Britain and four times for the Rest of the World. But it all started that night and I feel very privileged to have been there to witness what must have been one of the best matches of all time and one of the most outstanding personal performance of all time.

  18. As happens many times in speedway, rule A will be thought up to avoid a certain situation occuring, then a new flaw will occur because of rule A, so rule B is added. This continues till everyone is confused & no one is totally sure of the rules anymore.

  22. Great effort by Team GB - Bewley and Lambert were excellent and got better as the meeting went on and brought the trophy home !! Decent racing and good to see Latvia and Germany competitive in the Final. Was expecting more from Denmark but they just couldn't get the team right on the night. Crowd was as expected - no need for the temporary stand could of saved the cost of that over the week and as for food and drink - it is always a tedious with a larger capacity - like SoN or British Final etc ... Let's see if that meeting will be enough to convince WSD to offer a SGP.

  24. That is true, buster wants nothing to do with speedway anymore, however he is totally unrealistic with his valuations of things, I’m sure he will charge extortionate rent and then there is buying the license off him etc …the panthers consortium know how hard that is, apparently he wanted to charge them way more than what the bspa said it was worth?

  28. I'm pretty sure the stadium will stay in Busters ownership. Taking rent for bangers and drift cars ect is relatively easy, compared to running and paying for a speedway team. It would need minimal work from Buster himself. As for Speedway.. Well a good friend of mine ( and i believe him 100%) was talking to a current rider after the Lynn v Oxford meeting last month, about him returning next season. His reply was.. If no one takes over, there will be no speedway next season. So unless theres something going on behind the scenes, that said rider don't know about, or he was telling porky's, it's not looking good at the moment. Theres still time though.

  30. Yes, Breaking IainB's post down here....I don't see how anyone can say he's wrong in what he has said. 1. They can't assemble a team (This is true because riders walk out of KL every season for various reasons, Recent examples Pickering, Jakobsen, Musielak, Tarasenko) 2. Effecting every other team in the league with their shenanigans (This is also true, Hence the reason why they've been deducted points whilst other clubs like Ipswich and Sheffield have gone vocal on social media with digs at the way KL operate. Literally no other club buys into the excuses and they want to get these meetings on as they've all got different targets that they want to reach) 3. They're bringing the whole sports down in this country (This is also true as well, The riders know this as well hence why barely anyone wanted to ride for Buster's Panthers last year as well as Tobi walking out this year, Various dodgy call offs whether it's due to KL not being able to put together a competitive team or a broken pit gate excuse as well as a straight up refusal to run meetings with a forecast that isn't perfect is all bringing the sport down, The weather forecast is very rarely going to play ball because it's British weather after all therefore Buster has to get these meetings on now)

  31. Assuming there's no rain offs, after the Poole home meeting on 27th July 75% of fixtures will be complete so there can be no team changes. Assuming this means we don't have to replace Tate as the 28 day facility will run out and an extension can be applied for which you would think would be granted, who knows with the BSPL! Having a guest every meeting makes us stronger than actually signing someone IMO, currently the likes of Howarth, Danny King and Sedgman can all guest at No.2 at Home

  38. Looking at a few weather sites most are showing virtually no rain until around 21.00. Shame really but it is what it is. I am not sure what the answer is but given what was witnessed at the NSS, who is really calling the shots, the riders or the promoters? As a general point it cannot do any favours to the stadium owners either. What would you rather have as an owner, weekly stocks/bangers when you not only get rent but food/drink and parking or speedway with sixteen dates unless you make it all the way in cup and league with just income from food and drink over possibly seven months. If I were an owner I know what I would opt for and make the facility work for itself. From a supporters point of view, the stop start fixture list (not talking about postponements) cannot help with punters finding other things to do and simply no longer bothering. The tribal followers of a team have probably long gone together with the previous weekly fix that use to be the norm. All very sad.

  41. The days when the WC was sponsored by a national newspaper, and major meetings sponsored by press and tv are long gone. Does the NSS have press facilities?. Could the organisers not have invited sports reporters and photographers to the SON final, given them dinner and someone on hand to explain the format and scoring. Then everyone reading a national newspaper yesterday and today would see a report.

  42. Also working for the Sun he may have sold his morals away. For me I don't have an issue with the photos, it was the timing that they were published. They could have waited until Tate was at least off the track and he had given the go ahead for them to be used.

  44. From Tates Facebook sounds a horrific injury but seems to be in good spirits get well soon Tate Update After a tough first week I am doing a lot better now. I have been up on my feet doing a little bit of walking. The doctors are very happy with my progress and I hope to be out of hospital by the end of this week. Also another injury added to the list I have torn my Gracilis mussel off my pelvis but they have said it won't need surgery and should heal on its own and be back to normal in a few months. Obviously still in quite a bit of pain but feel like I’m getting stronger every day. When I am released from hospital I will need to come in every 2 days until the doctors are confident we can clean and change the dressings ourselves. Then we come back for the 6 week check up. Hopefully by then I will get the all clear and I will be able to sit on my ass for the 20+ hour flight back home to Australia. Thank you to everyone for your messages and thanks again for those who have come up to visit me. Getting the news there is going to be NO long term damage is a relief … bring on next season. Doctors report 6,7,8,9 left lateral rib fracture - will heal by themselves Fractures of the spine T5 T6 T7 T8 T9 bottom of the rib cage -they are compressed however the ribs will brace them and hold them in place so they would expect they will heal perfectly fine L2 L3 L4 lumber part of the spine wings on the side are broken off - will heal by themselves with time No damage to the spinal cord thankfully Where the Chain adjuster went into his left cheek ( buttocks) -Doctors said you actually got quite lucky it only went through the subcontainious tissues without involving the muscles. The exit wound has been stitched shut The main concern is making sure the large entry wound doesn't get infected as it heals. This will take the longest to heal as we would like it to heal on its own. The latest MR scan of the pelvis showed up a couple of aductor muscles have been torn at the pelvis they are the muscles that bring your legs together these are subtotal (like a very nasty sprain) and they will heal up in time The worrying one or most damage was done to the Gricillus muscle It is torn through and through and totally torn off of the pelvis the TNO surgeon said they won’t operate at this point. They may want to go in and rejoin it but he thinks it’s highly unlikely

  46. Tate has released the following statement from his hospital bed:- Tate Zischke 1h · Hello everyone just want to jump on and thank everyone for all the messages and hospital visits this means a lot I haven't been able to get back to everyone but thanks everyone. It's going to be a long bumpy road to recovery I will spend the coming weeks in hospital fighting to get better each day. It has been a rough few days so far but we will keep flighting. So far I can let you all know I have fractured 7 vertebrae and 5 ribs and have a nasty entry and exit hole in my left bum cheek where I was penetrated by my bike when I followed by bike into the fence. I have so far had 1 surgery on my ass cheek and have been told I will need a couple more in the coming days. I want to let everyone know this crash was 100% a racing incident and nobody is at fault. I will keep everyone updated on what is happening next Good to read that he doesn't blame Keynan Rew in any way for the accident. Wish him well.
