If people are being honest Poole are the best run club in the country serial winners and you can see why.its not pooles fault we and I mean that as a collective can’t beat them they have the same points as the rest of us to build a team they just have the X factor when it comes to doing it.the only criticism people can have about Poole as a viewing fan is the lack of passing but then again Poole can do what they want the fans still turn up unfortunately though they win on all our teams tracks as well lol there just a very good team the top divisions loss is the championships gain because I bet the highest attendance for home matches is when Poole come calling sorry about my ramblings but it’s upto the rest of us to build competitive teams to match the riders are out there otherwise Poole wouldn’t do what they do most seasons.4 points

As teams averages will rise from 38 at the start of the season to one close to 42 at the end of it, most/all riders should be expected to raise their starting average by about 10% without actually improving their under lying performance. A starting average of 6.5 would need a season end average of over 7.00 (7.15) just to stand still.3 points

The bottom line with Poole is this. They can average 1500-2000 Crowds for the bulk of their summer season and possiblty exceed that in Play Offs and Cup Finals. They can sell upwards to 1000 (or more someone might confirm) season tickets at 150-200 quid a pop. They have excellent and mostly longstanding sponsorship. That alone is a guarantee that they can run, cover all the bills and make money. Most CL Clubs are happy if they average 600 - several have tried to match the spending of bigger Clubs on that sort of average and have palpably failed. Oxford have done exceptionally wel but will have to decide "what goes" next season, PL / CL or NDL as surely margins suggest its not practical long term to run all three. I don't see crowds significantly above 600 average at any other CL venue other than Poole / Oxford (stand to be corrected on that?) I do get the Ford logic, why go up and spend possibly twice as much (net) and risk reduced Crowds as they prefer Wednesdays - especially if there is no big Company / high net worth individuals to cover any losses. Maybe they are lucky to have that sort of core base, but I believe that generally that you make your own luck, if you don't you certainly have to have the sort of wise judgement not to chase rainbows and to live within your means. A few fine examples of that especially Scunthorpe!3 points

Especially when you consider Poole have a Dane in their side and they ride on Wednesdays3 points

What a meeting! Large crowd, Birmingham very unlucky not to come away with a win. Fantastic racing throughout the meeting. Well done to both teams.2 points

Saw a post somewhere saying why don't people go to Speedway anymore. Look no further than tonight .45 - 45 away at Sheffield. What a great point that used to be . Absolutely ridiculous that the home team walk away from that meeting with an extra point. Pathetic isn't the word.2 points

Erik knows what he’s don there, tactical dive to an extent knew Tom had him and took the chance of a rerun hoping it would go his way.2 points

We'll agree to disagree then, but personally I'd never want to use my top rider in heat 8. For Leicester as soon as I saw Sheffield had r/r at 2, think I would've moved Lawson to 3 or 4 (put Becker at 2).2 points

I do wish these Speedway riders would time their intercourse better with their calendars2 points

Excellent post. Thank you Mike0310. Last nights heat 5 with Bomber recording the fastest time of the season by an away rider, Richard Lawson's faultless 15 pt max, plus Ben Cook's last to 2nd in heat 15 against Bomber and Ivacic were worth the money alone!2 points
-
I think Lawson would be welcome back whatever his average is.2 points
-
"I want to thank you guys tonight for such a good turnout and what you did there with your wonderful support was great!" " I don't think these lads know the rules anymore. I try and let them through but hey that's how it was." Richard Lawson last night. Maybe they don't want to increase their average too much either Richard lol.2 points

Spedeworth do own the stadium and have put out a message on their website to say that they intend to get the stadium back working and look forward to continuing the improvement works they have been doing since taking over the ownership of the stadium.2 points

Don't they also get help from their local councils/government.Im sure i read that somewhere.2 points

The other benefit that Poole has by being continually successful at their chosen level is excellent media coverage, (as well as excellent team building skills)! Whether tv, radio, newspapers(print and online), reel videos or other social platforms they maintain their presence in the wider public eye. It doesn't just happen, it needs to be continually worked at and Danny Ford, his team and other committed individuals work very hard at it. There will always be critics, but Poole are accumulating stacks of positive pr, huge crowds and commercial support - just in case they need it if/when the future of the stadium becomes a 'live' topic!2 points

Obviously now adding Russel Paine to that list (again) and there are/will be countless others. These are people who gave untold hours to the sport for zero in return and were still driven out. What hope has the sport got if it punishes and penalises genuine volunteers whilst feeding the self interest of a selected few.2 points

I noticed, especially on FB, many fans saying Pijper shouldn't have been dropped (especially when Garrad didn't score well) but hardly any of them said "we should have kept Starke too" now anyone with knowledge of the rules knows they couldn't have signed Ivacic & kept Pijper. I see Plymouth's new signings Patrik Baek is a 5.00 rider, meaning if Glasgow had signed him instead of Ivacic, they wouldn't have had to drop Pijper. I wonder if he was on Glasgow's list of potential signings?2 points

Redcar juniors stalwart and former promoter, Kev Keay did the same , said the interference from those two ruined the ethos of the league and thats cleaning up the words he actualy used.2 points

What you are totally oblivious to is that it doesn't matter who is in the race to produce a very entertaining race and that's where the quality lies! I enjoy all levels whether that's an Emil or NDL racing. I've seen great and not so great racing at all levels. Remember, all the greats have to start somewhere. And you should've been at Glasgow on Friday especially heat 10 Ben Cook vs Bomber.......beat any race in the top league any day if ur into separating the leagues!2 points

It has been boring for a long time and is like a leopard, so won't change its spots.1 point

Coming up for this with high hopes. One of the few bastions in British Speedway that seems to produce regular good racing. How have Glasgow managed to get Nicholls he is flying.1 point

Whose idea was it not to have a draw and how long has this ridiculous rule been applied. I'm one of the target Speedway supporters who doesn't attend meetings anymore and how it's run nowadays that's not going to change anytime soon.1 point

Hard luck Lions. Still think the super heat is ridiculous for anything except the bonus point.1 point

Nora is independent of the "international" structure as previously outlined. Regarding track time for riders, within the current structure of speedway in the UK there are training/practice facilities available which are well used by both amateur and professional riders. Unfortunately with any governed sport comes the rules and regulations which form the structure by which the sport operates domestically, nationally and internationally. . On the domestic front, nobody, especially British speedway promoters want to see the sport suffer unnecessarily and similarly, welcome new potential investors. some clubs such as Leicester are fortunate to have an owner with a structured vision, and sponsors onboard in JCB who support the club without the need to to do anything other than be "sponsors" . They are not alone in this regard. Unfortunately, other clubs/promotions have found that the promise of sponsorship comes with caveats where the sponsor thinks they have a right to demand change and frankly have more self interest at heart than the good of the club or the sport in general. Not everything in the UK speedway garden is rosy, but that does not mean, a new broom would sweep away the bad and replace it with anything better. The sport in the UK is not in terminal decline as some naysayers would have us believe, but it is far from being as healthy as we would want. The evolution rather than a revolution, will continue towards a brighter and healthier future albeit without a revolution and still within the global structure.1 point

Only ever seen a double tape touch exclusion once, but it was way back in time. One of the riders involved was Neil Collins, sometime in the early 90's.I do remember Dad and myself were sat in the Panorama Room looking down at the start line when it happened.1 point

You would think that the competitors involved might already know the score too.. Those interviews with the riders are always great when they get asked "Do you think you can still win this?" And the oft used answer is "I don't know, what's the score?" I bet they know the score in Poland.. And their own score too, including bonus points......1 point

Started the season like a house on fire but we haven't seen that Claus for quite a few meetings now. Apparently " Vissing's Gone Missing' is a term within the Speedway world.1 point

Vuolas does not have an assessed average. He has a real Championship average of 6.00, and A converted av of 4.55 (July Champ av x 1.5)1 point

Interesting listening that Tom Brennan had not realised/been told by the management that it was a last heat decider.1 point

Brennan’s gating has been exceptional this year. Probably the best gater Ive seen this season.1 point

Where is the saviour of British speedway when you need him most. The SCB/BSPA were making a commitment to youth racing this season but it feels just as half arsed as it ever has. Entry numbers are down year on year and you can cut the field in half next time round with the introduction of rev limiters as the budgets many are running on are stretched at best and several riders don't know how to change ignition timing let alone replace the units. Whats left of the MDL will be finished too as those riders are little different. Who in their right mind would recommend to anyone these days to a parent to get their child into Speedway?1 point

And not running it like a hobby, and instead running it like a bona fide sporting competition, also helps them 100%, and ensures (one million percent), that the massive TV contract stays in place..1 point

You have to feel sorry for riders like Kyle Newman, only riding in one league his season has been fragmented and never really got going. You can't expect a rider to get going with such large gaps in his racing calendar, good rider with still a lot to offer the sport.1 point

Apart from a few GP sooperstars aren't the majority of the riders the same in the PL as the CL :-) doubling up or doubling down whatever its called this season?1 point

Why would you change your business model to make less money? Don’t forget Poole Speedway is the Ford’s main business. It’s not like they have another business which pumps money into the speedway to subsidise it like other promotions may have.1 point
