EIGHT years after speedway bikes and Formula 1 stock cars last raced at Brandon, our efforts to have the venue reinstated back to its established use as a leading motorsports stadium continue. During those eight years there have been numerous hurdles to overcome and battles to win, and a lengthy process was always likely in a situation where the site owners have their own different aspirations. Matters came to a head over the last two years when a planning application was unanimously refused by the committee members of Rugby Borough Council, and then even more significantly when that refusal was upheld on Appeal by a government-appointed Inspector. Despite the attempts of the applicants to circumvent both local and national planning policy and the clear ongoing need for the site as a motorsports venue, the outcome of the Appeal was that there is no prospect of the site having housing potential, regardless of whether or not a 3G football pitch is added. However, given that the decision was taken nearly a year ago, and there has been little apparent activity since then, many observers have quite reasonably been asking what happens next? In our previous communication over the summer, we made reference to the changing political landscape in the area, and in particular the fact that Rugby Borough Council is now led by Labour, with support from the Liberal Democrats, and with Councillor Michael Moran taking over as Leader. A reminder that the Rugby Labour manifesto states: “By 2035 a Labour-led council would ensure that health services meet population needs and that Rugby and the villages have thriving commercial centres where key buildings and venues, such as St Andrews Church and Brandon Stadium, are maintained with pride.” It’s important to note that on the specific matter of Brandon there is cross-party support, and with the formal planning process now exhausted there is a natural window to determine a route forward. So with the Council clearly of the view that Brandon Stadium should exist as exactly that – a stadium – we are pleased to confirm that we have entered into talks with Cllr Moran and the new administration, with the aim being to demonstrate how a viable and sustainable future for the stadium could be delivered. It is already public knowledge that there is significant interest from those who would wish to operate the venue, both for speedway and stock car racing, and several individuals spoke powerfully on this matter at the Appeal. The need for the sports to run at Brandon, and the desire to make it happen, is not in question. What we are currently working on is establishing a clear route to delivery, and an indication of the organisational structure once the venue is operational, and the viability of both of those strands. After eight years it seems almost perverse to ask supporters for patience, but both ourselves as a Campaign Group and the Council are in agreement that it is in nobody’s interest for matters to drag on for any longer than they have to, and substantial work continues to take place in a bid to accelerate matters. We have also been delighted to read confirmation of the plans for the commercial development of British Speedway, and the increase in television viewing and streaming figures, along with the highly impressive social media activity. With the increasing number of top riders competing in the UK, it all enhances the view that British Speedway is in an improving position, and the one thing that would turbo-charge that improvement would be the return of venues which should never have been taken away from the sport in the first place. It has also been most encouraging to follow another successful season of stock car racing, a sport which would receive another boost from the return of one of its most prominent venues. We urge everyone to remain positive and thank you for all the support you have given to help get to this stage, and we will report further as soon as we can.

Don’t agree thorsell is on a downward arc, rode well in the SoN at belle vue last summer beating lots of big names helping Freddie and Sweden to a bronze medal, scored 10 coming fifth in the gp challenge also narrowly missing out on qualification having one bad ride in the meeting

Come on everyone lewi kerr is the best signing ever because the Poole fans say so,despite the fact he was second choice because Kyle howarth opted for Glasgow and Poole thought they had him,apparently riding a decent track tipped the balance in the tigers favour.

Re tracks in South Wales - There was some talk of a track in the proposed car & bike racing track planned for Ebbw Vale area which fell through much to my disappointment having moved to the area from Newport, And of course there have been 2 tracks in Newport - Somerton Park now a housing estate (built by the Housing Association I used to work for - the irony) and Queensway Meadows now a truck yard (after it burnt t down after it closed) as well the aforementioned Cardiff, Neath & Carmarthen (which was a great little track housed in a showground) and also tracks in the very early days at Caerphilly & Tredegar and possibly New Tredegar. A venture to bring racing to Swansea at one point was to come to nothing. The crowds initially at both Newport tracks were outstanding but faltered, but proved it could be feasible in Newport at least and it drew a support from across South Wales.

100%... As has been said.. Start the season with three Test Matches. Before Poland starts.. Speedway fans, starved of six months without Speedway, will want to attend.. "Top" riders get some competitive racing before Poland kicks in.. And. The UK can then advertise their launch of the domestic season off the back of it.. Tracks in places like Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield, Ipswich and Poole, (and maybe some others?) would get 2500 plus crowds I would suggest..

They've had permission to ride all home matches on wednesdays, half day closing in Krakow on wednesdays so the Poles can grow the sport by showing Speedway live on tv in Poland on wednesday afternoons.

Lewis Kerr will be fine, exactly as fine as he was at Oxford when he had Masters and Nicholls to share the load. Along with Lawson, Rowe and Cook it will be one of the strongest top fours in the league and I have no doubt the whole 7 will be a match for Glasgow (If the rumours about their team is true) at the top of the table. I do enjoy a chuckle at some Poole fans worries at the team won’t be strong enough, I can only dream of my team having those worries lol. Barring injury woes or some drastic underperformances then I’d pencil the Pirates in for the play offs and probably the BSN and KO cup finals, semi finals at least.

Would've preferred 6 man teams (5 rides each). Also a tad surprised Kent didn't enter both competitions. Wonder what the plan is if Lynn don't enter, will a league team go into the trophy? Delighted that riders will get more fixtures, well done to all the teams taking part, especially Championship ones as this fills some blank dates in the fixture list.

The fans can make it viable by turning up in the same numbers they do for Championship fixtures. Here's hoping they do.

His last night at the showground where he scored a max and looked untouchable... that was him showing his 2021 world champion level. If he had a full season i think he would be more than capable of being a number 1.

Surely providing more competitive track time to youngsters is far more important than wondering how the averages is going to be calculated !

bit of a negative way of looking at it its a good thing that there will be more opportunities for NL standard/ aged riders part of being a speedway rider or any motorsportsperson for that matter is travelling, just one of those things

All the Kerr posts re av he may achieve. For me it could be Rowe who is the real steal for Poole. His av with Brit discount is 6.11. Based on his 2023 av. He only came back to Champ for Glasgow later in season due to Prem & POL U24 season and rode 4 matches (2 H & 2A). AV over the 4 with a 7.76 av. Home 8 av - away 7.56 av. Using this as a guideline you can see how his riding in Prem and the POL U24 has improved him and at still 22 he is improving (just as Brennan has improved). If he carries on scoring at those levels and Kerr also adding a bit to his av, then it could be another decent season for Poole. Especially if Zach Cook also finds some improvement. We should not lose sight of the fact his av was 6.23 but with BP it was actually 7.44. Even Thomsen who was 4.41 was 5.29 with BP. Plenty to look forward to but the reserve situation could also be critical if its Cairns/another 2 pointer until July and that so important number 6 who most of us are still guessing on who it might be.

The team had to lose 5.80 points after team building discounts. It was always going to look weaker. Once the other sides are all announced, I think the Poole team will look very good. It's pointless to compare teams to previous years - it's only worth comparing them to the opposition they will face. On that measure, I don't think there will be any concerns.

If he is so good how come his away average last time with the Aces was vastly inferior to his home one. Can’t remember the exact figure but wasn’t it something like 5ish? As good as he may have looked he will and is one of those that could easily not be bothered if conditions aren’t to his satisfaction. Milik dropped straight to reserve at the first set of averages in 2024, so did Pawlicki once he had ridden enough matches. Both had similar averages to Zagar. KK was equally as poor last time he ride here hence why Lynn got rid of him in weeks. Very little difference between all of them with consistency and commitment.

Kildemand used to be great every track... then it all went wrong... I think it coincided with him signing for Poole!

Good to see the new development league for next season, surprisingly Poole not supporting this or helping with the development of British youngsters, some things are more important than making a profit like the long term development of British talent

Paco was the better rider. That said, Lasse's average is slightly suppressed in that he scored a lot of bonus points - particularly at home. Lasse ended with an average of 4.67, but with the bonus points he averages 5.76 last year, so I'd say he's good good value.

Traditionally, lower-league competition -- which was close to amateur in some cases (Linlithgow, Buxton, etc) -- saw the teams travelling together, often in just a couple of vans. Not so expensive, and great for team bonding, too.

£24/£25 is ridiculous. Speedway is going to price itself out. Pensioners are struggling to keep warm. They have lost their winter fuel payment due to the Conservative Party leaving a big black hole in the budget.

5.79 away average winning 8 heats all season. Sorry but not really HL standard for me. Yes he'll score plenty round EWR but my point was away from home will be weak.
