Never any surprise in Poole not supporting youth development but happy to cherry pick the work of others.7 points

E-mail message from SCS Campaign. EIGHT years after speedway bikes and Formula 1 stock cars last raced at Brandon, our efforts to have the venue reinstated back to its established use as a leading motorsports stadium continue. During those eight years there have been numerous hurdles to overcome and battles to win, and a lengthy process was always likely in a situation where the site owners have their own different aspirations. Matters came to a head over the last two years when a planning application was unanimously refused by the committee members of Rugby Borough Council, and then even more significantly when that refusal was upheld on Appeal by a government-appointed Inspector. Despite the attempts of the applicants to circumvent both local and national planning policy and the clear ongoing need for the site as a motorsports venue, the outcome of the Appeal was that there is no prospect of the site having housing potential, regardless of whether or not a 3G football pitch is added. However, given that the decision was taken nearly a year ago, and there has been little apparent activity since then, many observers have quite reasonably been asking what happens next? In our previous communication over the summer, we made reference to the changing political landscape in the area, and in particular the fact that Rugby Borough Council is now led by Labour, with support from the Liberal Democrats, and with Councillor Michael Moran taking over as Leader. A reminder that the Rugby Labour manifesto states: “By 2035 a Labour-led council would ensure that health services meet population needs and that Rugby and the villages have thriving commercial centres where key buildings and venues, such as St Andrews Church and Brandon Stadium, are maintained with pride.” It’s important to note that on the specific matter of Brandon there is cross-party support, and with the formal planning process now exhausted there is a natural window to determine a route forward. So with the Council clearly of the view that Brandon Stadium should exist as exactly that – a stadium – we are pleased to confirm that we have entered into talks with Cllr Moran and the new administration, with the aim being to demonstrate how a viable and sustainable future for the stadium could be delivered. It is already public knowledge that there is significant interest from those who would wish to operate the venue, both for speedway and stock car racing, and several individuals spoke powerfully on this matter at the Appeal. The need for the sports to run at Brandon, and the desire to make it happen, is not in question. What we are currently working on is establishing a clear route to delivery, and an indication of the organisational structure once the venue is operational, and the viability of both of those strands. After eight years it seems almost perverse to ask supporters for patience, but both ourselves as a Campaign Group and the Council are in agreement that it is in nobody’s interest for matters to drag on for any longer than they have to, and substantial work continues to take place in a bid to accelerate matters. We have also been delighted to read confirmation of the plans for the commercial development of British Speedway, and the increase in television viewing and streaming figures, along with the highly impressive social media activity. With the increasing number of top riders competing in the UK, it all enhances the view that British Speedway is in an improving position, and the one thing that would turbo-charge that improvement would be the return of venues which should never have been taken away from the sport in the first place. It has also been most encouraging to follow another successful season of stock car racing, a sport which would receive another boost from the return of one of its most prominent venues. We urge everyone to remain positive and thank you for all the support you have given to help get to this stage, and we will report further as soon as we can.5 points

It is a strange one,I guess some fans are fans of winning, and some are fans of speedway.4 points

Stadium rent will have gone up in some cases, the riders expenses would have gone up also, therefore so will their demands. Literally everything in modern day life has become more expensive. Can’t really expect admission prices to freeze and the promotions take an even bigger hit. A small increase is to be expected.2 points

Yes he seems to find the Poole team more interesting than his own. Can't blame him for that.2 points

Averages are of course a nightmare in this situation and in no way have they been considered barring initial year 1 team building. To have any credibility each league should have its own rider averages that are used for team building moving forward. For a start there is a good chance the levels could be quite different so a rider could average 8 in the trophy and 5 in the NDL. Then there is the other examples. New rider in the trophy signs on a 3, ends season on a 9. The following season he looks for a spot in the League competition too does he sign on as a 3 or a 9? With such short seasons averages won't be calculated more than twice during the trophy season anyway. The concept of allowing teams extra fixtures and a way into the sport is sound enough but as ever massively hashed together with very little consideration of where the product should be moving forward.2 points

i personally believe its the responsibility of all clubs to do something towards youth development and its not just poole, my own club seem to be entering the trophy but havent had a young stars side for a few years it shouldn't be beyond any club to host a few fixtures even if they are part of double headers sometimes it should go beyond business/ management and just thinking about ones own club2 points

Agree,Berwick tried it with the Bullets for a couple of seasons and it didn’t attract decent crowds (with a very good Team on track ).2 points

It's called 'good club management'!! Even when they ran Bournemouth Buccaneers, with Garry May as TM, and won everything, admission was £10 (reduced to £5 for main team season ticket holders), but still didn't attract decent crowds to be sustainable.2 points

£10k?? I bet that doesn't even cover stadium rent for 5 nl meetings let alone all other costs and a massively reduced attendance income...!2 points

I'm disappointed we are not entering in development league but for some bizarre reason Poole fans don't turn out for this standard of racing. Strange really as Poole's main team sponsor is a huge fan of the development of young riders2 points

Sadly last couple times I've watched Adam hes a long way behind his glory days Not sure hes championship standard anymore2 points

It isn't easy making strong looking teams, especially with a low points limit. But I notice you never give alternative teams or ideas to strengthen a team I've put out, just keep telling me they're awful! It's very easy to say a team looks bad without suggesting a better one, anyone could do that. If you think my teams are so bad & must clearly think it's easy to pick a stronger one, why not show me how to do it, you could easily say "how about rider A&B instead of C&D etc.2 points

Lewis Kerr will be fine, exactly as fine as he was at Oxford when he had Masters and Nicholls to share the load. Along with Lawson, Rowe and Cook it will be one of the strongest top fours in the league and I have no doubt the whole 7 will be a match for Glasgow (If the rumours about their team is true) at the top of the table. I do enjoy a chuckle at some Poole fans worries at the team won’t be strong enough, I can only dream of my team having those worries lol. Barring injury woes or some drastic underperformances then I’d pencil the Pirates in for the play offs and probably the BSN and KO cup finals, semi finals at least.2 points

I see the last time Lewy posted on his own teams thread was the 17th November, shame he doesn't put the time and effort into that one like he does the Poole ones1 point

Zagar is one of the most stylish riders of all time. I've always thought of him as a more aggressive Leigh Adams. Agree that he is now in the twighlight of his career but he's a class act. Damn good bloke too.1 point

..and dear old Mark Philips and Garry May missed out on both of them!! Was it down to money or the track, or both?1 point

Would've preferred 6 man teams (5 rides each). Also a tad surprised Kent didn't enter both competitions. Wonder what the plan is if Lynn don't enter, will a league team go into the trophy? Delighted that riders will get more fixtures, well done to all the teams taking part, especially Championship ones as this fills some blank dates in the fixture list.1 point

Can't see anything in the post where Mr Godfrey says anything that could make anybody think that.1 point

Traditionally, lower-league competition -- which was close to amateur in some cases (Linlithgow, Buxton, etc) -- saw the teams travelling together, often in just a couple of vans. Not so expensive, and great for team bonding, too.1 point

Apart from Lawson, who always seems to deliver, they'll all have to step up next season, still looking a strong side and maybe another rabbit out the hat for the last rider, but can't see them dominating like they did last season, although they normally seem to get it right. Nice to see the last heat leaders Eastbourne had being employed by Poole again ....1 point

Yes statement issued by HNGS with regards new location for the Heathens. HNGS Ltd 5th Statement and update. In our last statement we mentioned a pre planning application as copied here below :- A project of a 10 acre site including car parking approximately 2 miles outside the Borough of Dudley was submitted back in November 2023 and a decision/ outcome February 2024. This P/A above was rejected by the Council. This was to be expected. However by submitting this P/A it has given us a list of Council concerns with which we can now work on. HNGS Ltd along with HSST are now in the process of obtaining the help from a company based in Bridgnorth called Strategic Liesure and a top planning consultant from London called LDR Planning Ltd. Planning issues such as noise concerns, transport and highways, architectural plans, landscape and visual impact etc are all going to be included within the planning work. Naturally all this work by the individual specialists will take some time before a second application can be submitted. Your support and patience are appreciated and we will inform you when the next steps are ready to be taken. Regards HNGS Ltd.1 point
