  1. So good to see the Comets riding so well yesterday I can say a lot of good things about everyone in the team however more importantly for me the biggest positives I seen yesterday were the atmosphere in the team and sprite among all the riders, from Troy at 1 down to Vinnie so nice to see. The last 2 weeks have been great for the club after such a worrying time. Have to comment on how good the track was too, I think somebody have already mentioned this but for such a one sided affair it was very an entertaining meeting. Well done all involved!

  3. We try and do the same but some teams are so chaotic they get missed. In my opinion if the team manager doesn't tell you then the ref should exclude the rider after the race. They will only do it once.

  4. Workington to finish top of league. They are doing everything right(bar administrative matters). Forget Poole and Glasgow, Workington have a balanced team who are getting results. They will certainly be in the top four, and probably finishing top. Look at the stats, Poole might be on an average of 2 per match, the rest are pretty much on 1 or below. The play-offs will be between Workington, Poole, Glasgow and ?

  5. They say it can’t get any worse, with the current lot in charge, oh yes it can! Everytime a new promoter comes into the sport with fresh ideas like Stuart Douglas did, they get pushed back by the old guard who continue to drive it into the ground.

  6. Just make the rule that heat 15 is between the top 2 scorers on the night, then there is no arguments.

  7. I've failed to convince King's Lynn fans... that's because they'd hardly see any Speedway due to the continual stunts that are pulled by Buster. And that is part of the reason the sport is in the state it is, cricket doesn't rearrange or put on double headers and that's doing quite nicely thank you very much.

  9. As far as the result/points were concerned, the meeting was done n dusted. Dec and Luke had been taken out of rides earier on... Rob gave them the opportunity to get more track time and chance to earn some more pennies... IMO, nowt wrong with that. As a big fan of Luke Harrison, I was pleased to see him nominated for ht15.

  10. Would be plenty of arguments. Say a rider retires leading his first race then reels off 3 easy wins but cant race in a last heat decider because two riders who have had an extra ride and got 10 points are the top two? Should always be able to choose who you want in heat 15, its called the nominated riders heat for a reason.

  12. Well, let's hope the Ruskies don't invade or we're toast! As a season ticket holder it is not beyond the wit of man to roll your unfulfilled meeting on to next season. What you guys in deepest darkest Norfolk don't seem to realise is there's a whole league system going on elsewhere in the country with play off qualification/positions to be decided and a TV schedule to be adhered to. KL idioted it up last season and they're idioting it up again this season.

  14. Thanks for your response. Why PolskiZuzel?…as born and raised in Bydgoszcz I support the local team Polonia and Polish National Team, although living with my English wife in Stowmarket I also support Witches since the time Magda L. brought Tomasz Gollob and other Polish riders to Ipswich. Now-days Emil Sayfutdinov, living in Bydgoszcz, carries on where Tomasz G left off.

  17. I really don't understand the mindset of we have to have the big names... no we don't. We need races with riders of equal standard against eachother. I'd rather watch a race of dan Thompson, danyon hume, Connor Mountain and Jordan Jenkins (first 4 riders of semi equal ability that came into my head) As opposed to Max Fricke, Jason Doyle, Jake Mulford and Joe Thompson. With all due respect to Jake and Joe... the first race is going to be much closer and much more entertaining than watching Max and Jason half a lap ahead of two others...

  18. Just a bit of context for those always looking for the conspiracy theory, this is a statement issued by the Kings Lynn stock car promoters on Friday : Saturday 19th July – Cancelled We are sorry to advice that this Saturday’s event is cancelled. With Heavy rain forecast for much of the day, including MetOffice Amber Thunderstorm warnings, we have taken the tough decision to cancel the meeting. Cancelling is never an easy decision, but we don’t believe with the current forecast we would be able to put on a quality event that we endeavour to do each meeting and with the forecast for Sunday also showing rain, rescheduling is not an option either sadly.

  19. nope, rained for several hours yesterday, raining most of the day today and heavy showers all day tomorrow (yellow weather warning) so wouldnt be surprised if its off later today or early tomorrow

  21. Like I said, its not about quality of riders for me. I wouldn't be happy seeing great riders go but if it meant the future of speedway is more secure then so be it. I'm sure when Poole lifted the championship title last season they weren't thinking about the quality riders.

  22. Just to clear a few comments up from previous post, I want the biggest and best names in British speedway. Watching Fricke the other week in that insane heat from riding from 15metres back was something special. Since Leicester have moved up the premiership the crowds have reduced, not massively but enough that its noticeable. I know not every club is like mine but nobody has given more one decent solution on how to fix the premiership. Not one. We can barely run it on 7 teams and its going to be reduced to 6 and you never know about Oxford, Sheffield etc. We need change and right now can anybody actually say that the current system works? It doesn't one bit. A 5/6 team premiership doesn't work for me and 7 is still too low. Now the premiership isn't just root cause of all British speedways problem, we can go on for pages about the issues we already have. The reason why I'm so passionate for change is that I am not even 30 yet and I'm dreading what it looks like in another 30 years time. I want to be able to take my kid to watch Leicester one day and I fear it isn't going to happen. I'm willing to make a sacrifice in quality if it meant I can still support my club for many years to come. I want every single club in British speedway to actually MAKE money, not lose it or scrap the barrel every season.

  23. To be fair it was probably at its lowest immediately post covid when the Poles imposed limitations on "their" riders, since this was relaxed and Mr Morris has been running the show I do feel as though things have improved (despite his pay off clanger). The sport has not been helped by the sudden loss of Wolverhampton and the not so sudden losses of Peterborough & Brum but I don't think these were down to operational speedway issues but stadium owners wanting to cash in on their land. The clubs that have replaced these lost clubs have really struggled to be competitive. Whether speedway did enough to invest in its own future during the Sky years is a different question (the answer is no they didn't)

  24. These guys are professionals. They will earn hundreds of pounds if they win Heat 15. A big hitter will be unhappy to be "rested" from the race in case he gets hurt.......

  27. The Golden egg was laid in the early days of Sky TV. It’s a real shame that the promoters & everyone involved didn’t embrace it & use it as a relaunch pad. That money spent correctly to improve the product with the viewing figures at the time could have been transformative. Also don’t forget at the time the sport had Column inches in the national tabloids & featured on the back page several times. In terms of race day if the product was want people wanted & was desirable it wouldn’t matter what day the racing was on.

  28. Poole get better attendances than when last in the Prem and no GP stars. They are not the be all and end all imo. They are great to have but you cannot hold other clubs to ransom for sake for 4-6 riders.

  29. I don't think anybody is happy about it, but if you only have 5 teams that are willing to pay out for the privilege what is the answer? Run a 5 team league? Surely you can see that's not credible.

  33. This seems to be a common trend unfortunately. The moment anyone with anything resembling vision and foresight touches British Speedway, the small-minded promoters around close ranks and hound them out. Its our ball. You can't play with it.

  36. In light of the close match in the BSN Trophy I admit to being a little uneasy before the meeting today and felt we would miss Antti . The uneasiness proved unfounded as both Fraser and Batch produced their best performances of the season to see us home with relative ease. 7 points from R/R was a decent return while the team produced a solid performance throughout with 11 heat winners and only 3 last places. Scunny proved not to be the same force as they were in that BSN meeting with only Steve Worrall and Connor Mountain winning races. Hard to gauge how good this win was when Jake Allen , Declan Kennedy and Simon Lambert score only 2 points between them . Declan was particularly impressive on his last visit scoring an impressive 10 points on his own. The Scorps today were probably as bad as we were on our BSN visit to the EWR so would have been hard watch for any of their fans that made the journey. Thanks to the Plymouth Fans who made a visit following the cancellation of their meeting at Berwick 👍. Thanks also to any other fans making the journey to take in the meeting. I believe we were lucky with the weather today as the north east has apparently been deluged. Tough match coming up at Poole midweek followed by an attractive home fixture next Saturday against the Redcar Bears. They have had the better of us recently and I'm sure the boys will be looking to reverse that trend. Should be a cracker so get down, bring someone if they're willing, make some noise and create some atmosphere. UTC !👊

  37. Both Scunthorpe riders in white in heat 15, how is this not spotted? I know some of the yellow looks very pale and sometimes looks white but was that just my eyesight?

  38. No if the meeting is won and bonus point is won them you don’t put your best riders in heat 15 The other week against Belle Vue we used Danny King and was so good seeing him beat Kurtz and Bewley Let’s hope you aren’t way ahead in a meeting and still use Lawson and then he gets injured in a race he doesn’t need to be in

  40. If everybody had the sponsors the model works, unfortunately not every club does, all PL clubs do have the TV money though (at the moment) but not all of them have the crowds, so some of that money would have to offset the lack of crowd numbers. If we say Sheffield, Ippo, BV & Leicester (I think) have decent sponsors, Lynn & Oxford also have sponsors but they're not synonymous with the club and Brum are sponsored by their owner! Brum are gone, we know that and we expect Spires to end... which other clubs in the UK have a sponsorship deal that allows them to fund these "best people"... there will always be "best people" at clubs even if they're NDL level. The only way to keep the "stars" and entice more, would be for Mr Morris & Co to approach one of the TV broadcasters with a proposal that blows the Poles out of the water, a £10m-£15m per season deal, you'd hope that with the end of the current deal fast approaching that this has already been done and the league structure for the span of the next deal, if there is one, is already being planned... now stop laughing! Taken from Google: Gathering precise and regularly updated viewing figures for sports like speedway in the UK can be challenging, as broadcasters and governing bodies don't always release granular data, especially for niche sports. However, we can glean some insights from historical data and current commentary: General Trends & Historical Context: * Modest but Passionate Audience: Speedway has a dedicated and passionate fanbase in the UK, but its overall viewership is significantly smaller than mainstream sports like football or rugby. * Decline from Peak: Historical BARB (Broadcasters' Audience Research Board) figures, particularly from the 2000s and early 2010s, indicate a decline in average live British speedway viewing figures from a peak around 2007-2009. For instance, the average audience on Sky Sports for Elite League speedway in 2011 was around 80,611, which was down significantly from 145,550 in 2008. By 2013, it had fallen to an all-time low of 62,615. * Lowest Figures: Before BT Sport (now TNT Sports) took over, the least popular live British speedway meetings on Sky Sports would sometimes hover around 40,000 viewers. Current Situation with TNT Sports / Discovery+ / DMAX: * Shift to Pay-TV/Streaming: The move of British Premiership Speedway and the FIM Speedway Grand Prix to TNT Sports (formerly Eurosport/BT Sport) and its streaming counterpart Discovery+ means that viewing figures are primarily within a subscription model. These platforms do not typically release specific per-event viewership numbers for individual sports in the same way free-to-air channels might. * "Millions of Viewers" (Platform Reach): When Discovery+ and Eurosport promote their speedway coverage, they often talk about making the action available to "millions of viewers" through their platforms. This refers to the potential reach of their subscriber base, not necessarily the number of people actively watching speedway. For example, TNT Sports 1 had monthly viewing figures of 5,864,000 in December, while Eurosport 1 had 2,035,000. Speedway is just one of many sports on these channels. * Free-to-Air Highlights: The inclusion of highlights on DMAX is crucial for broader exposure. While these figures are also not often broken down by sport, free-to-air channels generally have a much wider reach than subscription services. * Focus on Fan Engagement: The broadcasters emphasize attracting new viewers and delivering an engaging experience for passionate fans, using features like live data (rider heartbeat, reaction time) and additional editorial content. International Comparison (Poland): It's worth noting that speedway has a much larger following in some other countries, particularly Poland. For example, in May 2022, the Orlen FIM Speedway GP of Poland in Warsaw reached 6.6 million viewers over the weekend across TVN Group's channels and platforms in Poland, with an average live audience of 442,000 on the free-to-air channel TTV. This highlights the significant difference in popularity and viewing habits for speedway across different territories. In summary, while precise, recent UK viewing figures for speedway are hard to come by, it's understood to be a niche sport with a dedicated, but relatively small, linear TV audience on pay-TV channels. The focus for broadcasters like TNT Sports and Discovery+ is on serving that passionate fanbase within their subscription offerings, while using free-to-air highlights (DMAX) to attract a wider audience.

  41. Don't think you can argue against ss point that the public want to see the best riders in ht15,irrespective of score, its what the fans want so give it to them

  42. Okay, you've said what you don't want... what do you want? Realistically? Bearing in mind none of the current CL teams want to move up and it looks very likely that the Spires will be no more next season. You want a 5 team league? Home and away 3 times?
