I get where you are coming from... Integrity has always been something many have considered "lacking somewhat" for a long, long time.. That lack of independent administration will always hold the sport back given turkeys won't ever vote for Xmas...4 points

I've always respected your views you make many valid points, there is an element of the above post that poses a stark real issue for me. We see so many times the level of cheating/manipulation that goes on to win a £350 trophy can you imagine just how bent it would get if they had a decent purse for winning the league? I've always said if genuine supporters knew what really went on they'd never go again, very sadly they appear to be finding out and staying away, I haven't been to a meeting for 2 seasons and in the preceding 4 seasons only Cardiff each year and Torun once. Disappointed to say the least.4 points

What is this problem that some people have with Simon lambert? Simon is still a very good rider and still a big influence in the pits with his wealth of experience and still gives 100% on the track.He has,and still is,a loyal servant to the club,a rider who gives 100% regardless who he rides for so instead of getting on his back,be grateful for a rider who bleeds Scunthorpe scorpions!3 points

Been twice to Poole whilst down there working. First time I saw Scott Nicholls (Leicester) fall and the Poole crowd cheered, second time I went Bomber (Rye House) fell and again the crowd cheered, a guy sat next to me and laughed so I asked him why they do that before they even know if the rider is injured, his answer was "it`s something we do and don`t care if the rider is injured", so I told him what I thought of him and he didn`t speak to me again 😂3 points

Whatever they do, the must have the plan to get more people into their tracks... By whatever means necessary... Big crowds means better atmosphere, and better atmosphere means better meetings (regardless of the actual racing quality), and delivers that virtuous circle of people wanting to attend again... And interests potential sponsors and media... Most races, regardless of whether GP or NDL riders are racing, are from the gate and strung out, and has been that way since I started watching in 1969... The difference being the size of the crowd maintains the atmosphere which then generates the repeat visits... Although, the caveat is it also must be allied to you having an emotional attachment to your team, which currently isn't the case given so many times "your team" are not really "your team".... Kurtz and Bewley are great to watch on a Monday, but, I would almost guarantee, many more would watch them on a Friday or Saturday... Which shows that those nights are key... The challenge therefore is to use those nights more.. The personnel on show may be different though than what many "die hards" would want to watch, but there isn't enough of them currently to justify continuing on the same pathway... Alternatively of course, they could just run the sport properly and make the sport credible with some decent reward and kudos for winning, and have an admiisson cost, and marketing strategy that brings people in.. And, therefore keep doing it on a Monday and a Thursday.. That though, so far, has proved somewhat elusive hasn't it?...3 points

I'm not sure that the Hundred is a drastic shake up in comparison to Twenty 20, other than having much more money thrown at it, being marketed to a different audience and getting much more TV exposure- all of which could have happened with the existing Twenty 20 format. And, as I say, it is rumoured that once more franchises are taken over by IPL owners it will become a Twenty 20 tournament. So it isn't the format necessarily. However, speedway needs to think about how cricket attracted all that and carried out the marketing. Strangely enough, a lot of what you propose, and I agree with, already happens at most IOW meetings. If only BSPL would have a discussion with Barry and Martin about what works and what doesn't I'm sure they would be happy to help2 points

This would be the type of punter that would attend once and then probably never again I'd say the chances of becoming the desired regular fan would be increased significantly watching Emil as opposed to Simon Unfortunately I accept the cost of attracting more of the Emil type quality is beyond almost all of the current clubs2 points

Doesn't sound like a made up story just to get a few fans in to me. I don't think Glasgow are skint, and its been reported to the SCB. Could be another slap on the wrist for Poole. Twice in a month isn't it ? What's going on down there2 points

The shale seems to be very powdery so when wet it will be very slick - even slicker than normal which is saying something. Chris called it right, on these types of track the speed of the bike is the biggest factor in race wins because everyone rides them full throttle - now that might sound obvious but it's not always been that way. Looking at older races from yesteryear the tracks generally were much bumpier and the outside was for the bravest only as most riders would get into difficulty with the heavy shale. It's got too fast for its own good and the engine builders/tuners haven't helped. Nowadays if someone falls off because they 'took off' when hitting the grip near the fence, the solution, instead of riders avoiding that, is to slicken the track and make it easier to ride so it continues to be slicker and slicker.2 points

at least this GP must be up for a reward, most boring GP this season....absolute borefest....however there is still one to go Vojens, now this could quite easily take the award. On a serious note, does no one in power of the GP's look back in the debrief and think yep we fekked that up?2 points

Agree but perhaps giving the punter what they want with a weekend race night does possibly reduce the odds of losing so much money. Speedway use to be a good weekend sport but alas circumstances dictate that it is not possible albeit NDL teams seem to cope. This is possibly why a rethink is necessary and perhaps go backwards first in order to progress. I would rather go to a Saturday evening meeting or a Sunday afternoon meeting than go mid week. Thursday is OK but after that having been brought up on Friday, Saturday and Sunday meets I would not bother with any weekday/ mid week racing. Just my view and others may feel different but promoters should race on nights which give them a best chance of a return on the asset/investment.2 points

UK speedway was never ran professionally & the great chance of creating a future was blown when the Sky money was wasted. The fact that the poles have a product that attracts huge crowds, investment form business & more than one tv company broadcasting the league live is down to their hard work & running the sport professionally.2 points

It's not necessarily that it no longer appeals - I lost touch with it as soon as it disappeared from BBC as it was something to watch in the school holidays and the sunday league game. Now I couldn't tell you who any of the players are or where to watch it and all this choice for TV I think has played a part in its downfall.1 point

The hundred is only there for the summer holidays before and after cricket lapses to its county tradition in front of the few committed followers. cricket was a huge summer sport which in its long form no longer appeals to today’s young. speedway has had to fight for its share of entertainment with people no longer rocking up week in week out. Times change and without blaming anyone it’s still here in a smaller way.1 point

Il be there too, I think a Bewley and an out form Lambert still streaks past a much weaker Sweden, I see Latvia and Germany going through too. We are going to the SON2 aswell and wondered who will join Brennan. I'm sure we have a rider better than Mulford to take, he's not quite be at the races and over committed himself in my opinion.1 point

Looking at learning from the past mistakes I always find Lee Coleman's column in the Speedway Star thought provoking. He has lots of ideas, some of them would require a sustained long period of investment, which UK speedway is not in a position to deliver at the moment but other are almost cost free. If you implemented the cheaper ones then if crowds increased which attracted greater sponsorship then maybe the sport would be in a better position to commit to a long term investment strategy. We need someone with vision to help promote the sport and he would appear to make more sense that many of the so called experts.1 point

I probably disagree with a lot that has been written on here - Seem to recall the best riders available riding in the U.K. when Sky were the paymasters. Tended to think that the U.K. business model has been for promoters to run speedway not because it was seen as sport but simply as a way of making money. Consequently I think business tended to give speedway a wide berth over the years as the people involved were let’s say ‘in it for themselves’. We are now down to the enthusiast promoters who are in it for the sport and not the money. In some respects the arrival of Woffinden Lambert and Bewley is probably 20 years too late to have an impact in U.K. terms. Poland has always been different go back to the 70’s and 80’s and they would get 40,000 at test matches - their league was football like in support and always has been but their rider quality wasn’t up to U.K. standard until the fall of Soviet Union and free enterprise took over. They were destined to become the power in speedway with that kind of support. Sweden saw a renaissance when Tony Rickardson appeared and their club sides signed the best riders available. Sadly time has caught up and their strong tradition of developing riders has virtually gone. Clubs went bust and crowds disappeared. Denmark could be similar - when Ole Olsen became world champion they expanded their league and produced some of the finest talent. They are still a strong nation but like Sweden are finding it difficult to attract youngsters to the sport - golf is the new favourite. I am now 2 hours drive away to the nearest track when 10 years ago there were at least 5 within an hour. Times change it’s a sad situation now.1 point

This has been pointed out many times not least of all by Keith hewen even though he was talking about riad racing but the same applies, back in the day Olsen briggs mauger Collins etc they are far superior equipment to the rest of the competitors so they always had an unfair advantage, that is not true today nobody in the field has anything better than anyone else so it’s harder to win a world championship today than it’s ever been even if you think the field itself is weaker1 point
