  3. They have completely ruined the world cup week format. back in the day it was a brilliant spectacle , even if the racing was gate and go it was still exciting and well attended. this new format is absolutely pathetic. why oh why do they change things that arent broken but any thing broken they do nothing about?

  5. That's almost certainly one of the worst SON/SWC meetings I've ever had the misfortune to watch. Dreadful. My main takeaways from that were: a) don't host anything in Poland that doesn't directly involve Poland - who knew? b) don't host one of the flagship international meetings of the season in October - who knew? c) if you're going to televise a meeting in a 20,000 seat arena when there are 14 people in attendance, maybe don't continually show drone shots of said arena, highlighting the 19,986 empty seats. d) if the rules allow team managers to chop and change riders and gate positions at the drop of a hat, for christ's sake let the commentator know. I don't need to hear Kelvin telling us he "thinks" it's rider X or he's "fairly sure" Rider Y is on gate 1 - it's amateurish. Other than that, it wasn't bad, some decent racing.

  6. That is probably a very good guess.

  7. Only in speedway could a team accrue more points in the main meeting such as Ukraine and the team with fewer points in the Czech Republic qualifies for the final. No wonder few take this two wheeled sport seriously.

  8. Fernando Garcia always dreamt of being a speedway rider and when he was younger he lied to his parents telling them an English club gave him a contract. He had little money but packed his bags and flew to England, he messaged loads of teams asking for a contract. He had no vehicle or place to stay so first night slept in the airport, then next night in a hotel and then when his money was lower (funds for travel) he slept for a week in a train station. He got a message for a guest booking with Berwick and then asked if he had a bike so he said yes, although he didn’t so he found an old speedway rider and bought his bike for cheap, after that he then realised he didn’t have a way of getting the bike to the track so the old speedway riders dad sold him his old van. He completed his first guest booking scoring 3+1, but Berwick then said the injured rider was back to fitness so he wasn’t required. He went back to the old van to sleep and lived off just apples and some fruit from a garden for three days, his phone died and he thought he would call it a day and sell everything and go home telling his family it didn’t work out, when he went to a petrol station to charge his phone Berwick messaged him offering him a contract and with that he lived and rode for various teams for 6 years. The only reason he finished speedway in England was because of covid and he had to move back to Argentina.

  10. I think football is going down the same path extending the teams in the world cup to include minority nations that are only going to be cannon fodder for the established nations.

  11. I don't get the obsession with Ekstraliga averages - Kolodziej and Ben Cook for example have been near the top in those lists but neither have made it into the GPs on a regular basis. Kurtz wasn't even riding in that league when he qualified via the GP challenge in 2024 was he? No-one knows how a rider may perform, if it was all about averages and assessments why have a competition at all? It'd just be nice to see some new battles, not just the same old troupe.

  12. If that was the reason Monarchs lost, I'd keep that to myself. I'd rather say "we were beaten by the better team, than "we didn't pay attention to track grading" 🤭

  13. They should stick to the 4 man Team formula, even though the lesser Nations don’t have International standard riders their lesser riders are the same standard which produced some decent racing between them. This pairs Semi-Finals just need to be scrapped.

  14. In my opinion if Mr Tophat did take it over don’t have Mr Roger’s involvement in it because it will close end of season with him running things So my message being get rid run it yourself then speedway will stay

  15. Not me, I’ve spoke out about holta and even some polish riders were not happy about him riding as a pole, I even refused to go to a British final where Rory Schlien rode, in my book when you have represented your country in an official event you shouldn’t be allowed to race for another country, loram and woffinden have never tried to swap nations

  17. Like you say same every year. Easy solution strict time limit on rain offs replays ( even if it means missing riders).Teams are now racing about 14 fixtures in 6 months it’s pathetic they can’t fit them in.IMO.

  20. Happens in football with play-offs. Probably many other sports too. I don't agree with it, but it's not a Speedway only rule.

  22. I think it's a stupid rule, but no difference than a 4th place team winning the Premiership, 6th place team winning the Polish Extraliga or the 10th placed rider winning a GP! Nowadays an "exciting" ending is more important than a deserving winner / qualifier (sadly)!

  23. Why? All matches should have to be raced. I can understand the argument, finish all the semi finals first. The only reason to prioritise the play-offs, would be in case the BSPL were worried all matches wouldn't be completed, that should never be an option imo.

  28. Sheffield New Owners successful local business operators with close links to Sheffield Speedway and the sport in general. 3 parties come to mind. Ian Hunter from Sheffield Window Centre former Sheffield Speedway Sponsors. The Stead Family. Ashley and Jonno Birks. Possibly a consortium involving all or some of these.

  31. No more East Midlands if he is to be involved and Sheffield new owners will be successful local business operators with close links to Sheffield Speedway and the sport in general. Both of these does depend on the league format being agreed upon that makes it worth it for both parties

  32. Wow, confusion and mixed messages at the BSPL!! who would have thought it?! So Poole complete their league fixtures by the original cut-off date and now get 'penalised' by not having their entitled choice of second leg at home in both play-offs and KO Cup!!

  33. And with that 'gone list' those that are left include: Kildemand (36), Craig Cook (38), Sedgmen (34), Palm Toft (35), Harris (43), Masters (34), Lawson (40), Kerr (35), Barker (37), Nicholls (47), Wright (38), King (39), Worrall (34), Simon Lambert (37), Batchelor (38), Iversen (43) That's almost all of what would effectively be the top group of riders. If people think they can just about manage to find enough riders to sustain one league now, what about in 3 or 5 years?

  34. Hopefully 2 good close meetings on 2 tracks where rider skill has to come into play Leicester fans are a great bunch , not blinkered or volatile Should be a great final

  35. As it is a extra competition as most meetings were contested early season then it is fair to say the semi final and final should have been completed ages ago.

  36. Practice and sprint racing are an unnecessary evil. Turning up, having a draw and guessing the set ups would make it a far more level playing field I my opinion.

  37. I don't think Timo Lahti's parants have any affiliation with Sweden, wheras Both Loram's mum and dad are/were English as was Woffinden's Parents.

  40. Slowly but surely folk on this forum are beginning to understand (although not necessarily accept) that there are insufficient riders available to make one big league and that the amount of current riders doubling up to enable teams to exist is actually bad for the credibility of the sport. Your post makes some good points and the suggestion to run less meetings could fit into a final solution. However, as I and others elsewhere have said, one barrier to progress is the promoters themselves, who first and foremost take the view of “how does this effect me” rather than “will this help the sport” Take Poole for example a very well run and profitable club why, because they choose to be the big fish in a small pond with less outgoings on riders. Unfortunately there is not the volume of riders with the same skill levels who make up the Poole team to replicate across the board especially considering the restrictions on race nights & doubling up etc. I guess we have no choice but to wait and see what exciting news & changes the close season & Speedway Ventures brings forth.

  41. That my point about riders whose ambitions are in Poland even if your decent over here your just “used” in Poland. As a lot of them have found out. Bowes has attended meetings in Poland missing fixtures in GB and has just sat in the pits not being used. His last match in Poland was 4 rides 0 pts hardly inspiring stuff.

  42. I'll have you know Harry Redknapp is a huge speedway fan, and has been since he saw Bartosz Zmarzlik score his first century at Poole. Told me so himself.

  43. The winner of the SGP2 should definitely be nowhere near the main SGP series, it's generally years before they're anywhere near the level required to be in the main series if ever at all. The last WU21 Champion currently in the series is Max Fricke who won it in 2016, it's taken him 10 years to get from that level to his current level and he's still relying on wild cards to qualify.

  44. If you make moronic comments then that makes you a moron. Don’t think any Glasgow fans replied to the Poole fan who made the comment as they probably didn’t want to engage with a moron.

  46. A lot is speedways main problems today have been self inflicted. ( not withstanding track closures)Self interest and fans with money trying their hand at Promoting and be taken for a ride in a lot of cases.Riders dictating when and where they want to ride are just a few of the problems.
