I don’t think so at this stage. He came he to win trophies & has for filled what he & the club set out to achieve. I had a hunch that this season was very much about unfinished business for Emil & that it would be his last. He is a rider who likes to be well organised in advance so I think it possibly hints at the uncertainty that is going on behind the scenes in uk speedway. If the state of play for uk speedway was settled could Louis have offered him another deal? I suspect he could have & possibly Emil would have agreed. Currently I don’t believe that uk speedway is in the position where Louis could have offered Emil a deal to allow Emil to make plans for 26. Having said that honestly I believe it’s a case of job done & it’s a great time for this chapter to close. Clearly these is a massive mount of mutual respect between club & rider. It’s been a great journey & one thing is for certain Emil is a true Ipswich legend!

You could introduce betting on other aspects of Speedway. Typically the start time of the first heat as against the start time advertised in the programme. King's Lynn would get good odds as a 19:30 Proggy start drifts towards 8pm and past it. Also' at what heat does the 'sun break' occur. These odds could be paired up with the first appearance of Phil's hosepipe! Enjoy 🤑

Your sound stinks like someone with little speedway knowledge other than a deliberate attempt to belittle the sport for an ulterior reason - Your something to do with Brandon Associates and/or Clark Osbourne? Your totally oblivious to the history of Buxton speedway, what it stood for and was about! Buxton never got more than 2-300 on a good day. It operated on a shoestring budget and was an ideal track for the lower cost 3rd tier and helped to produce many riders by propping up the 3rd Division. - Most of the crowd were fans of senior tracks getting a Sunday afternoon speedway fix. I'm sure it will continue in a similar vein if it reopens next season.

Why so, so negative. If everybody had that attitude then nobody would try anything. Now many tracks may not be viable and perhaps a new financial model is required, Mildenhall are trying something different. But while people still love Speedway and are prepared to try then everybody should give them their wholehearted support. If it fails then it fails, but at least somebody tried to do something positive and not just sit on the sidelines moaning.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but maybe teams should have invested all of the money into the stadiums/land/facilities and then used the increased revenue on riders, rather than just going straight for the riders. This would also have prevented a lot of the issues we are having now of teams be kicked out of their stadiums or being priced out due to the increased price of land and shrinking revenues

According to one promoter... "The No 1's".... Who all then pretty much effed off to Poland and Sweden as soon as the UK gravy train ended for them.. Personally I wasnt ever convinced bringing "the top stars" back a few years ago was going to be a "Golden Ticket" given the fact that when pretty much every single top rider (maybe apart from Tomaz Gollob), rode over here week in, week out, during the "Sky years", the crowds didn't grow, in fact, they kept declining overall... Which suggested the "top names" were not deal breakers as to whether fans were attending or not... Plymouth is a perfect example of where "the cast of the production" hasn't changed, yet the number of people now watching them has increased considerably, just by changing their "opening hours", which are now obviously more aligned to people's leisure time...

Fair point and I'm not for one minute saying British Speedway has done a stellar job but comparing British Speedway with Polish Speedway is almost impossible as they are 2 very different things other than 4 riders racing each other over 4 laps. Many of the Polish clubs are riding on land provided to them historically by a socialist/communist government and have been subsidised by local governments ever since, and I'm sure it adds up to a tidy sum. Factor in the differences in land prices, apartment living as opposed to 3 bed detached houses with a garden add in cost of living, salaries etc. The 2 countries and their Speedway are almost beyond comparison.

There never was ‘ bikes ‘ , just engines, and only 13 were delivered to the UK. You need to keep up, the MX ‘appeal ‘ only got three definite bookings and was abandoned .

Simple answer….MONEY ! 700 crowd for Premiership riders wage bill ? That sort of crowd probably only justifies a Championship level team , unless your going to follow a Birmingham scenario and be willing to lose buckets and buckets of cash.

It was (and still is), a tiny sport, so why there was this obsession to ensure "the stars" stayed riding over here was beyond me... I can only presume it was more "promoter ego" that wanted the best in the world working for them.. There is no "pot of gold" in winning any UK competition, and hardly anyone out of 80 million people will even know who won what, so I can only think rubbing shoulders with the worlds best must be what many Div 1 promoters were in it for.. Many, many, millions given to them, and all to regress... Absolutely barmy...

Should be something that the SGP series owners implement(ed). They need to develop both the pool of competitive riders and the venues for the series. I'd have gone 16 franchises across Europe at venues that do or could be developed to stage GP's. 4TT, 4 home and 15 away fixtures. Play Off and Final. That's 20 plus meetings which is probably enough for the GP riders (or maybe they do one domestic league as well) if you get the financing right. Graded teams build to 10 grade points 4: Top 20 ranked riders in the world 3: Riders ranked 21 to 40 in the world 2: Any other rider (i.e. over 25 but not in the top 40 ranked riders) 1: Any rider Under 25 years old not in the top 40 ranked riders 0: Any rider Under 21 years old not in the top 40 ranked riders Domestic leagues based around the riders they can attract. i.e. in the UK you probably wouldn't attract any of the GP riders so it sends you down the one big league set up.

Poole were going into it as Elite Champs at that time, with a round in each of the countries represented. There was a huge debate about Holder and Ward as to who they should ride for. But at the end of the day it all came down to money! Anyone riding in the Polish League wanted the same Polish pay rates for every round, no matter who they rode for!

They are. Football (one of the biggest of them all) is phasing gambling sponsorship out because it can cause serious addiction. The number of bookmakers who offer speedway markets has also decreased. They aren’t interested. The only people who want to bet on speedway are the existing diminishing fan base or those with serious gambling addiction who would happily bet on Romanian under-12s netball. Companies sponsor things that will help them improve or promote their business generally. Speedway won’t. Greyhounds is a dying sport too and one that has always been synonymous with gambling. It isn’t a partnership that has just sprung up. Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth but let’s not assume bookmakers are the saviour. It’s straw clutching.

Didnt the BSP buy a load of those GTR bikes? If so, why not just use them for dozens of practice days and see if anyone with ability turns up... MX seems to be a decent breeding ground as it appears Grasstrack no longer looks like the pathway...

British Speedway has two options. A) make sure it is the one other league that riders choose or B ) strike out on its own. Remove the fixed race day and rebuild its own product. Short term the big names will stay in Poland but if we focus on developing our own riders in the long term we won’t be as reliant on Poland propping the sport up as it apparently (according to Poland) does right now. The bubble could always burst in Poland. It did here after all. It is in our best interests to have our own sustainable model here in the event of that happening.

So for instance Belle Vue (with Bewley/Kurtz..) v Sparta Wroclaw on a Friday (away team with cover for guess who). Then on Sunday Sparta Wroclaw (with Bewley/Kurtz) v Belle Vue............just my thoughts sorry - lol.

Fantastic interview with Gerry Facenna in the (ever excellent), Speedway Star... He mentions how successful the "Trust The Fans" mechanic has been in driving up crowds... Many years ago I mentioned to a promoter the very same idea of letting his fans bring someone in for free for three matches to see if they could be enticed to keep attending, with my rationale being "these people are not there now", so "no loss".... Never mind spitting his tea out, he nearly spit his dentures out!!!! His answer was "some will just take the p**s and come in for nothing"... I said that that was obviously a distinct possibility but if you explained it well enough, given the loyalty of Speedway fans, not that many would, and the possible long term rewards far outweighed any short term risk... It didn't happen and his crowds continued to drop....... Nice to see some promoters actually promoting... Best of luck to Glasgow...

I’m with you on this, other than some sort of big deal I can’t see what they going to do that isn’t worse than last year, I have said for a few years maybe the top teams should ask to join the polish extraleague but the poles won’t let that happen so that’s a no go, I was told moths ago that something way different was happening but they wouldn’t say what but heard nothing since but a couple of things I heard recently which I know are true are very troubling but are complete contradictions to what is out there in the public domain and just don’t make sense at all, the bit that really throws the curveball is the Harry Redknapp thing, that man does nothing for nothing, he is on an earner somewhere and speedway on the face of it hasn’t got a pot to piss in so what’s the deal ?

Great signing for Scunthorpe & gives them a brilliant number one. Might be hard to build a strong team using up over 1/4 of the points limit on one rider. But if I was a Scunthorpe fan that wouldn't bother me, I'd just be happy to see Picko flying around the track each match.

Hopefully your sources are correct Dean and maybe Flagrag can convince Sky to give the sport another chance as he seems to be very close to media companies.

The big stars can bring crowds in, but I’d suggest the repetition somewhat knocks that on the head. If Emil Sayfutdinov (for example) was coming to my track once a season and I absolutely had to be there on that night to see him I’d get it. But last season he went to some away tracks three, maybe four times. It’s not so much of a novelty when the big name is back in town again in a few weeks. This is one of the benefits of a larger league, you don’t race the same teams two to three times at home a season. The damage is done and probably too hard to rectify in the short term but seeing the same old faces week in, week out in both divisions is a contributing (one of many) factor to the decline of the sport on the whole.
