A few years ago, somewhere in the UK, when they had ten teams down from eleven the previous year... "Great, one less team this year, I could maybe get some of their riders and make my team better".. Then, the next year when they had nine, down from ten.. "Great, one less team this year, I could maybe get some of their riders and make my team better"... Then, the next year when they had eight, down from nine.. "Great, one less team this year, I could maybe get some of their riders and make my team better".. Then the next year when they had seven, down from eight... "Great, one less team this year, I could maybe get some of their riders and make my team better".. Then the next year when they had five, down two, from seven.. "This is absolutely ridiculous, we cannot run the sport like this, something should be done about all these tracks closing, there isn't enough teams for my team to race against now. Some of the second tier teams need to come up to my league. Some promoters are so selfish, and just look after themselves, they should all be like me, a proper team player"...9 points

It is pretty clear / likely that no fixtures will be announced until after anything is confirmed. In the meantime, yes BSN "is a thing" and for a Christmas treat why wait till March, we're going to Australia for the Aussie champs and the FIM Oceana championship. £44.99 for 6 meetings. Fun for all the family and high possibility of Greg Blair fighting a kangaroo/snake/spider. You don't get that on TNT.7 points

Unfortunately speedway has too many mercenary’s and hangers on for its own good, we missed a trick in 2020 to reset the sport onto a different better path and it looks like we are going to miss another chance and plod our way into 20266 points

I was saddened to hear the news of the passing of Brian. I have known him since he rode at Workington in the 1970s and he was always exciting to watch. But I got to know him better in Redcar days, through my "gangs" road trips there over recent years. And Brian ALWAYS treated the Comets fans like myself with great respect. He always made a huge fuss with us from the moment we entered the arena, right down to ensuring the Comets fans got priority in the bar over any leftovers from the sponsors buffet ! Despite some of my gang asking him some very direct questions, he would always give them an honest answer. Not many non Redcar fans knew, but his involvement with Redcar even stretched as far as he personally emptying the bins after every meeting ! Rest in peace Brian me old mate. The Workington "gang" will miss you lots.6 points

Radio silence has been broken by Leicester! LIONS 2026 UPDATE LEICESTER Speedway wish to provide an update for our supporters on plans for the 2026 season. The club is fully committed to racing at Premiership level once again, and although the full structure and team composition of that league has yet to be finalised, normal winter work is taking place including discussions with potential team members. British Speedway’s AGM, where regulations are ratified, was recently postponed but several league meetings between club promoters have taken place. It is known that the league will take on a different look in 2026 due to the sad closure of Birmingham and the fact that Oxford have elected to scale back to Championship and NDL racing having previously operated at all three levels of the sport. Elsewhere, champions Ipswich – who defeated the Watling JCB Lions in the Grand Final – were put up for sale recently, as were Sheffield prior to the end of the season. But Leicester wish to dispel any rumours as to their own involvement, as they seek to build on the last two seasons which have seen them finish as league runners-up on both occasions as well as winning this year’s KO Cup. Co-promoter and team manager Stewart Dickson said: “I can only speak from a Leicester perspective, but obviously I know our fans are keen to hear what’s happening, and we hope things can be finalised soon. “We are having regular Zoom calls with the other Premiership clubs, and there is very much a will to continue with this league. “Leicester are committed to the Premiership, along with the other clubs which remain from last season, and obviously we’re hopeful of satisfactory outcomes at Ipswich and Sheffield, hopefully the sooner the better for all concerned. “We still envisage there will be a Premiership next season although we do recognise time is moving on, and ideally we’d like to have our team finalised and announced, and to be getting season tickets on sale by now. “What I can say is that we do know what the likely structure will be in terms of team building, and therefore tentative talks have been taking place with riders. “There are plenty of riders who have expressed a desire to be with Leicester next season, and I’m very confident we will be able to put a competitive side together once again. “So at the moment, and on behalf of myself, Paul (Cairns) and Jen (Crossland), we thank everyone for their patience and we hope to have some more news in the near future.”6 points

You’re not that stupid that I need to explain, but here goes it’s doubling up, it 2 teams in the same sport,it’s conflict of interest, it’s a joke in a team sport that this is even a thing, sport teams are supposed to be territorial,it has no credibility whatsoever to the outside world looking in on our sport, is that good enough for you ?4 points

If you want to see a good heat, look on Comets Facebook page and watch Vinnie passing 2 pilots to get a 5-1 😁4 points

At last, something positive to read on this forum. Fair play to the Lions promotion for at least acknowledging the frustration amongst supporters even if the update regarding league structure isn’t telling us something we didn’t already know.4 points

Ultimately you have got to have the want to race, there are a few out there who didnt retire because they didn’t want to race anymore but maybe struggled financially and a couple of years later finances have changed for them and they could be tempted again but British speedway needs someone to take charge of the bike side of the sport because we are spending money needlessly on engines to achieve the same results, you give the riders and tuners almost free reign and you get what we have,,engines revving a lot more faster than they actually need to with no gain for the sport4 points

Hang on, hang on But there are loads of riders and one big league could work wonderfully Now all of a sudden a missing Pickering would cause a lack of options!!3 points

Brilliant way to get the Scunthorpe faithful wanting to come and spend their money and support you every week 🙄3 points

It’s good to see that someone actually has the balls to say something about the situation, the lack of anything from the BSPL is astonishing. Well done Stewart.3 points
-
So, Leicester has done what the BSPL/ACU should have done weeks ago, but the latter didn't have the spine or the gumption to do it. Shame on them, and good on Leicester I'd also add that it's a very well-worded and clear statement3 points
-
It's fairly obvious that if you go to one league now then essentially all signings made so far are void. There are a few others along with Pickering who you would expect to prioritise a current Premiership side and no doubt several more amongst those agreed but not announced. And for all the criticism of the Premiership being selfish etc, it's clear that the bulk of the Championship will have no intention of allowing those five clubs in for that reason.3 points
-
Aye right.I will believe that when I see it happening.Wonder if the Mine owners will meet their demands.🤔😂3 points

Jason Doyle also warning the BSPL as well in regards to certain Aussie Riders who'll pack it in and head back to Australia to work in the mines.3 points

Yes good old Stewart Dickson reassuring the fans that his 2 jobs are safe for 2026, another situation that damages the credibility of the sport3 points

Sorry to say that I am not one of the parties mentioned in attempting to buy Ipswich - I do hope they find a buyer however and manage to make it to tapes for 2026!3 points

Yes, this was a straight copy and paste from the British Speedway press release. Brian Havelock was a bit before my time to remember as a rider, I remember him more of as a manager. Newcastle were never really a "glamour" club through my time following 2nd tier Speedway, so he never really resonated with me. My overriding memory of him was his appearance in a TV documentary commenting on the death of a rider (was it Wayne Garratt?). He certainly put a shift in to our sport as a rider, manager, promoter and fan and father. Condolences to all affected.2 points

Just a gentle reminder Iain, Brian was a fine rider for the Sunderland 'Stars' for roughly three years in the early 70's. This is very sad news. Brian was a very good rider who put 100% effort in to everything he did. Riding, managing and promoting. He was a very tough Yorkshire man who was a regular attendee at our Sunderland Speedway Reunions. I got to chat to him a number of times, both at Redcar and at our Reunions. I respected him. My condolences go to his family and friends. R.I.P. + Brian.2 points

But not smart enough to see that little things might seem nothing and immaterial but when added to lots of little things make a big thing, Dickson should have one job in the sport and that’s it and that goes for anyone in the sport, but typical of speedway at the moment is just money drip for too many in the sport, one thing I will praise Phil morris for is on race days he understands optics, the perception of what the general public see on the tv matches, it’s the little things which might go unnoticed to us because we are use to it but to a newbie or potential sponsor it stands out like a sore thumb and I hope in the not to distant future Dickson little odd job is nipped in the bud2 points

You do have to question the intelligence of the fella to come out with that publicaly even as you say if it is a shoe in, now if a bodge is put together and their are two leagues in 2026, he's alienated pretty much every Scunthorpe fan and potential local sponsor in that area to. Talk about getting a 12 baur shotgun and deciding to aim it at your own foot at point blank.2 points

I’ve already started on those years ago and doubling up, if you don’t see the damage then sorry to say but you are part of the problem, it starts with a small crack and through people saying oh it’s only a little crack no harm done2 points

Leicester have just put out a statement on their website where Stewart Dickson says Leicester are fully committed to the Premiership, and talks are ongoing. Gold star to Stewart for telling fans something! (Although I fear a black mark from fellow promoters!!)2 points

You, of course, are entitled to your view. You also are entitled to point out the counter arguments. The only criticism that I have of your Post is that some of your wording seems very uncharitable to someone who has tried to do some things differently. I certainly could not have come up with something like that. Who knows that someone may look at this and come up with a system that would work. At least he has offered something, you and I have come up with nothing. I believe that Falcon1983 should be applauded, not vilified.2 points

I think any hope of Berwick aiming for ‘great’ is a bit pie in the sky personally. After all, they offer free parking, what more do people want.2 points

Everyone can announce a full 1-7 if they want but nothing is truly confirmed until the League Structure has been decided. I do believe we will get a Two Tier Structure in 2026 though.1 point

The CL seem pretty sorted, the only question for me is are PL going to run with 3, 4 or 5 and if not will they be "allowed" into the CL. 9 CL clubs vs 3, 4 or 5 PL clubs, without a TV deal, puts the PL in a tremendously weak position. It doesn't matter how "fully committed" Leicester are to Premiership racing as written in their statement today, that commitment could be severely tested if the other 2, 3 or 4 clubs aren't also committed. Talk of a sixth club is clearly pie in the sky stuff, along with a new TV deal and the saviour of British Speedway... Harry Redknapp.1 point

I kinda hope that Scunthorpe ditch him first and don't let him back into the Championship. Not much chance though given the lack of options1 point

The inherent flaw - in my opinion - is not the unworkable system, nor is it expecting 14 "top level" riders to keep their diary free to ride with Arran Butcher and Jack Smith, it's the reworking of the format. 15 heats, 4 riders, 4 laps. 3-2-1-0. 60 seconds. It is the most straightforward format you could ever wish for. The format is probably one of the very few things that (British) speedway has going for it. It doesn't need to be replaced with a three stage act. If this league structure came into play, I'd immediately make my racenight a Sunday, sign the best of those not riding in Poland, and then watch mercilessly as team after team turned up with R/R and 5 NDL riders.1 point
