Lawson gets grief for either being late or just on time, and for bikes not being spotless.. Yet holds down a full time job and has a young family... When the sport was in its halcyon days the minority were full time professionals, with the majority seeing Speedway as a very decent second income, with many able to earn in one night of Speedway what they earned for a week in their "main job".. Nowadays we have reserves trying to be full time professionals... It's total madness from a business and operating plan perspective.. Especially as winning any of the comps has no real value or worth...

That really is the problem with speedway. It's not a business, it's a sporting activity. Certainly in the UK. The sooner speedway realises it is an amateur sport and stops pretending otherwise, maybe it will survive going into the future, in my opinion.

Far from it, Lynn and Ipswich are in a three way battle for 3rd and 4th with Sheffield. Plenty to race for last night! I suspect Poland's aim eventually for the real golden nuggets like the Young Danes, Poles and Cairns/Rushen would be for them to just ride for their Polish club and a league in their own country or Swden in the Poles case. And I suspect the once a week routine of Denmark and Sweden appeals more than the UK.

It’s not the amount of points scored that is the problem. It’s the late arrivals missing track walks and parades. Not going for victory laps when asked. Dirty bikes and twice just not turning up giving very little notice. Michael lee was more reliable.

Not me, I do not want to win at all costs and although disappointed when we lose, happy to take it on the chin and move on. I agree a good close meeting can be enjoyable if we lose but I would say more enjoyable when we win. Also I would say some 60-30 meetings can be enjoyable too.

Who are they going to get in though ? the cupboard of anyone wanting to come to the UK is absolutely bare.

To be fair to him, the No1 position at Ipswich hasn't been a big points contributor all season... And Lawson isn't really a No1 in the top tier, similar to how Tom Brennan also isn't... Juggling a full time job and starting your "other job" at various places around the country, at 730pm, must be a challenge from time to time...

A 44-46 defeat would be far more exciting than a 60-30 win imo.

There ara a number of joint supporters of Reds and Comets, a couple have expressed their disappointment with this decision to myself personally. It is a somewhat unfortunate switch when the World Cup can be watched on catch up or recorded by those able to watch it.

The positive social aspect of how the sport was, shouldn't ever be understated... Even into the mid 90's the BV riders would be in the bar having a drink and signing autographs with the many fans who stayed to have a beer... Supporters Clubs across the country arranged away meetings coaches and held regular social events through the season... The operating model was always "a bit Mickey Mouse" (but obviously nothing like today's Guestfest version), however, the social aspect of the sport kept people engaged and invested in the teams, so therefore they attended regularly... Teams who were, most weeks, your own riders, or riders doubling up who had been loaned out by your team to a Div 2 track for their development... Nowadays it looks like Teams are put together the night before, with anyone and everyone in the frame to ride for your club on a adhoc, horses for courses, basis.. And, some riders will leave the stadium almost before Heat 15 has started if they have a very early flight the next morning from an airport miles away from the track they have raced on... The whole thing needs urgent review and a complete overhaul and reset... Start UK Speedway again...

Bomber is a hard charger we all no that brilliant to watch still but as Plymouth is such a small track to me I think he was a bit to over zealous and tried to put him in the fence, I imagine the fine was for what happened after the race when Ben b went to say something and bomber turned the bike deliberately into barker and knocked him to the ground, bit of handbags really , the worrying think for me and I never thought I’d say this as for most of the season he has been brilliant is Danny kings form, not putting him in heat 15 , or the super heat. Troy batchelor though was so good a brilliant guest.

Back in the day riders turned up with bikes strapped to the boot of the car and poor Terry Stone regularly turned up at Rayleigh with dirty bikes seemingly having some sentimental value for the dirt of Bradford, Canterbury, Eastbourne etc. Eventually he took on board the point and eventually turned out for each meeting with spotless bikes, you could eat your dinner off the mudguards. Those were the days because as you said they rode in addition to the main job and it could earn them good additional money. For anyone old enough, after a meeting at Rayleigh the riders all met up at the Blinking Owl Cafe on the A127 and many a supporter joined them. It was a better time for the image of the sport and while the racing may not be as fast and furious as today, it was competitive and young riders were given chances that only today’s youngsters can dream about. Some made it others battled through but you got to see an aspiring young newcomer take on a heat leader and my abiding memory is Rayleigh versus Boston and Ivan Miller a grass track rider beating Arthur Price a heat leader for Boston. Compared to today’s homogenised offering the sport in those days offered opportunity and a chance for success on a level playing field with bikes that were basically the same and anyone old enough will remember riders winning a race on the ‘track spare’. It just would not happen today and more is the pity.

I’ve no idea, but I have faith the same people responsible for bringing in Tarasenko and Nagel are capable of repeating similar deals. It’s either that, or it’s game over. Also, forgot to add that Jason Edwards was a disgrace. 5 points from 8 rides between tonight for us and Friday for Berwick is so far off it, it’s an insult.

Wright is a solid UK rider given how weak the league is here now days, fifteen years ago plus he would have been a good engine room second string. He is though a rider who will give his all and I think the issue is against higher quality opposition he ends up over riding and crashes , seem to remember he had a bang early doors in Poland last year also.

What an absolute shambles, 3 riders scoring 33 points, 4 riders only 8.Another waste of space of a guest, Hagon should just retire NOW. Who is picking the guests, Dunderheid Brown ???. Somehow we managed to get the bonus point out of this fiasco.

Yep plenty of things from years gone by in the firing line I read a good article on pubs over the weekend , roughly two a day closing in the UK. The writer interviewed a fella who took over a popular pub in his area (Lake District) that had closed pre-covid he took over reigns in 2021 said when he started gas and electric £1,500 was per month he chucked keys in mid 2025 and gas and electric then £3,500 per month. Add in the plus wage going up, employer ni threshold cut , cost of living meaning more people just having a pint and no food or staying at home as the ex landlord said "covid got us all into the mindset of staying at home more". One of my richest friends owns a pub locally turns over a million a year but still loses money, luckily he can use the old trick of offsetting the losses against his other business which is an absolute cash cow.

Doubling Up is the perfect system for both riders and promoters... A poor night on Monday can be covered by good nights, up to four times, later in the week, and you can always pick up plenty of Guest bookings if your team isn't riding.. No major prize on offer, means no major pressure to perform, as does having no major number of adequate replacements for your place should you not perform... And promoters get to share the costs of these riders... A nice, cosy agreement.... And one which doesn't condition, or prepare, the better young lads, in any way shape or form, for racing abroad in much higher standard leagues, and international competitions...

Actually went to scunny on Friday with the Comets, brilliant meeting great recing comets got beat, but they put the effort in and a very enjoyable meeting. Watched the Plymouth meeting on BSN, comets riders put in the effort couldn't gate all the time, so we got beat, but another enjoyable meeting. Where it appears Poole fans want to win at all costs, then moan when they don't win 😜

I'd have gone for Pickering, a lot more aggressive on all types of tracks than both.

I go to watch my team ride speedway win or lose,have seen glory days and bad days ( 1980) but its my team would never not turn up and there are lots like me,perhaps just not enough .

I can’t speak to the rest of it but the crowd numbers at Berwick have looked to be a lot better than last year and very consistent, it’s been busy and a great atmosphere all year. The Berwick social media team have been doing a good job and it really helps that we have been unbeaten at home so far. And have made it to the latter stages of two competitions. I’ve absolutely 0 knowledge of the financial situation of the bandits but the attendance has been good and most in the crowd seem pretty upbeat and positive.

Redcar must have serious questions for their riders, they've just been beaten by what was virtually a three man Berwick team.

If he's paid bonus points, which by his scoring over the last decade would suggest, he clearly does. Makes himself employable in each league each season on 'bargain averages' 55 BPs in 2025 60 in 2024 56 in 2023 and 40 so far this year. His riding average is always around half a point more than his GSA, you can't fault him on it in a sport with silly team building rules. While I agree the Lynn team doesn't fit the Young or Development moniker, as long as they are giving developing riders more National League outings than Belle Vue, Sheffield, Ipswich, Northampton, Poole, Glasgow, Scunthorpe, Berwick, Plymouth & Workington, then I refuse to criticise them!
